Jón Páll vs Capes: 1983 Part 2/2 (Sack Race)
Спорт
Jón Páll Sigmarsson and Geoff Capes battled for the title World Strongest Man for a few years. They were two good friends off the field but on the field they were animals.
Their first battle was in 1983 in Christchurch in New Zealand when Jón Páll joined the competition for the World Strongest Man. Geoff had never won but he had gotten 4th, 3rd and 2nd place.
Geoff won in 1983 but Jón Páll finished in 2nd place after a big battle against Capes.
Here we can see the competitors in the sack race.
Competitors in WSM 1983:
Geoff Capes (Britain), Jón Páll Sigmarsson (Iceland), Simon Wulfse (Netherlands), Tom Magee (Canada), John Gamble (USA), Chris Okonkwo (Nigeria), Doyle Kennedy (USA) and Allen Gallberg (Canada)

So much nicer people and more magical and better looking than today's boring wsm
Magee was suffering from a bad flu bug at the time of this competition and ought to have been in a freaking hospital. You can see how pale he is. That he competed at all is a testament to his integrity and pluck.
Jón Páll was an ambassador to iceland he is sadly missed
jon pall was a legend , amazing athlete stunning
loooool at that victory scream from capes
Al right, Tom McGee the greatest, most under-rated strongman...
I've found my new thing and new icons for 2014.
John Paul the greatest of all time.
5:58 what a viking
@bagzie I liked the kegs better. Especially when KAZ was tossing the damn things.
Does anybody have the rest of this event?
Tom Magee went into pro wrestling with the WWF a year or two after this was taped. He was awful, by some accounts maybe the worst ever, but there is some video of his "work" here on youtube.
jon pall the greatest? And tragically dead at 32. Hmmmm... someone should cut together that great clip of a really charged up Maradona celebrating a goal in the American world cup with Sigmarsson's usual post exertion exhortation.
@barbarash Yeah, Jon Pall was anything but dull and robotic... robotic in strength, perhaps.
Well tons of stuff was retarted in the 80s.
