Best Memory related to Dilla for me, I was walking home from school one day and had my headphones blaring listening to JD while wearing my JD changed my life shirt. I see this other guy walking toward me with massive headphones on just like me, wearing a Dilla Donuts shirt. We saw each other and took our headphones off and just started laughing, we shook hands and just kept on walking.

J Dilla and Nujabes, were not just musicians, they were the essence of sound itself, giving us a multitude of sensations which vary through many vibrations, they made us cry out all of the pain we had. I personally wouldn't be the same without them, junior high/ High school was shitty, these guys made it better, and made me feel alive. Needless to say we will never ever see sounds like J Dilla and Nujabes ever again, but they graced us mere mortals transcendant symphonies. although our time w/ them was cut short "where ever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow, however that parting need not last forever. if you will, that meeting could last a lifetime" thanks for the memories J Dilla and Nujabes

The Boy finds the girl. Both are existences that know nothing but to wonder what life is. Yet, They fall in love. They both have felt nothing like this. Something they never did before. But then the boy dies. To experience a young love and then to lose it is a hardship in itself. Now the girl is alone. She drifts along trying to search for something to replace her loss, an unknown experience that helps her recover from her first. And she does; she finds a friend( the shark), whose species is mostly treated as dangerous, but despite this, he is caring and empathetic. This friend who is very unlike her, accepts her and gives her the strength to try and move on. But then her friend is taken from her. To her he is a close friend, but to others he and his family are food and profit. She watches as they sell him off to others. The girl lost a lover and a friend. Enraged, the girl lashes back at society. She decides to destroy those who took everything away from her. She causes more damage than she intended. But even with all her strength she dies. Killed by the ones she scorned. In the end, life will still move on despite her influence, as she is one small faction of what the world around is. The girl drifts in the afterlife, alone yet again. But then a miracle happens. The girl finds the boy, just like how the boy found the girl. They fall in love all over again, and stay together for what may be an eternity. And so we come fall circle. Love, Friendship, Hate, and Death. She had felt nothing like them before. And yet it gave color to her existence. They all produce both beautiful and hurtful feeling to experience. But either way that is life. This is the road taken from the second you were born. And that is what this song and video are. And eerie and bittersweet portrayal of life. Apologies for this pointless comment. I was soo high when I typed this.

Just Blaze on this track: “ I set there for 20 minutes with that part on loop, trying to figure out what the sample was. He caught a pert of the record that was so non-descript. That was what was so crazy about him: he wouldn't use the obvious break. He might use the part right before or after the break. And the pert he used on that song, I couldn't figure it out. It drove me crazy for months. Finally I just gave up.” In case you are wondering you can hear the sample ride out for a few seconds at the end on the album version

MF and Dilla are gone. All we have left is Madlib. Those were some fun days, discovering these guys through the underground world of Boom Bap lol

I love this song (and the video) - this is still one of the most surreal pieces of music I've ever heard. It's that reversed sample (does anyone know what it's from??) that runs through the whole track - it just invokes such an eerie sense of mystery and wonder; an extraordinary achievement.

The sample is from a Dave Mason song. Dull. Can't remember the name. There is an index of J Dilla source samples. Google it. Fascinating.
