When Dilla died I was only 17. I didn't really understand his influence back then. I'm 34 now and it's sad to think he died at only 32y/o. I also lost a friend to Lupus and she was only 25 and before she died, she half joked about wanting Dilla played at her funeral. Her favorite song was "So Far to Go" so we started listening to it in the car on the way there and just bawled our eyes out, but because the song is sexual, we were like cry-laughing, you know what I mean? Anyway, she's the reason that I'm brought here and why I continue to listen to this song every now and then. I feel all kinds of shit listening to this -- it's sexy, it makes me sad, it makes me laugh. Reminds me of her.

And when you answer that question you'll see what people are trying to do. Trying to squeeze their guy in the conversation. It's always the same. Every day I'm finding out about some of my favourite joints that were produced by DIlla. Don't talk to me about Nujabes because hip hop isnt some fricking lo fi beats to study to shit. Nujabes made beautiful instrumentals. Dilla made classic hip hop records that shaped generations many of whom aren't even aware of it.

One of the smoothest and biggest slept on joints in hip hop history!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
And because of your innocence, even more you'll remember this, hardcore gentleness (;
Still the sound of summer for me
Dilla's friends from the L.A.-based indie label Stones Throw came to visit and brought him a Boss SP-303 sampler and a small 45 record player so he could make music while in the hospital. Dilla completed 29 of the 31 songs on Donuts while still in the hospital. - Credible Sources

Just listening to this song makes me happy and sad. Wow
This is one of those songs that have become unlistenable to me because of how absolutely heart-shatteringly beautiful and sentimental it sounds. I feel like bursting into tears everytime I hear it and I typically just end up thinking about my mom in the sense that she's always motivated me which reminisces with the title of the song. I get positive childhood images all over in my head because the beat is so soft and innocent as well On one hand I wish I didn't have to feel like this since it lowkey hurts, but there's also obviously a beauty in it. J. Dilla is one of the few people I'll genuinely call talented without any second thoughts Edit: I did completely burst into tears in perhaps my most real cry of all time briefly after writing this
One of the best beats ever produced. Plus common and D’Angelo are a perfect for this beat. R.I.P dilla ✊🏽
This is the song I imagine would be played as you ascend into heaven. Only to be greeted by Dilla and his MPC at the gates. As if fate knew you still have so far to go from the gates on.
