Its not the chicken, It's PTSD | Days 130-131 Post-op Vestibular Nerve Section & Craniotomy

Hello! I'm Kelly and I've had Meniere's disease since 2010. On May 25, 2023, I had a brain surgery for Meniere's disease called a Vestibular Nerve Section and Craniotomy after I exhausted all treatments for Meniere's disease. I kept a private video journal while I recovered from surgery and recently decided to make it public in hopes it would help others go through this surgery recovery. The date this video was recorded is listed below. I'm happy to answer any questions you have or talk more about my experience. Recovering from brain surgery was unlike anything I've every experienced. But I've come so far and I am SO glad I did it. Thanks for going on this journey with me!

    You are a great cook. I get meals on wheels when I first was diagnosed. It was a life-saver.

    Thank you! I enjoy it when I'm feeling up for it. So glad you were able to get meals on wheels! I can understand how helpful that would be.

    I know that fear, it's like a shadow that can be ignored but it's always around and makes things worse when it strikes. Thanks for making it visible and relatable for many of us. Keep getting stronger Kelly!!

    It is heart breaking 💔 when you spend so much time preparing the food and then ending up having to throw it out. It’s a hard struggle. Glad you got through it and still ended with a smile. Glad you got the dogs around you. Continued Prayers for you Kelly! Have a great week!

    Hi there . I'm giving you a huge virtual bear hug. I hear you when it comes to chicken . When I was 28 weeks pregnant I had some chicken with my then partner and we both got food poisoning. Unfortunately I was seriously ill and had to be hospitalised . They had a heart monitor on me and my baby . Now this is going back 23 years ago . Anti medics weren't as good and being pregnant they had to be very careful . Ive never vomited so much in my life and the pain i was in thought might trigger labour . I was severely dehydrated and was on a drip for quiet a while . I was on antibiotics a tummy pain relaxer . It was horrific. I was terrified to eat anything, so was in hospital a while to make sure I ate, bubs was OK and I wouldn't pass out . My little girl was born a little tiny but perfectly healthy. Shes a beautiful young woman . How i didnt loose her i dont know . I did have a great gynocologist , and the drs were amazing as well as the nurses . I was very lucky . I still can't even look at chicken today. Looking at yours gave me anxiety . So don't feel bad . Hw was dead anyway. 😮 I'm not heartless but it's true. Those vegetables looked delicious. I rarely eat meat . I'm more plant based . Your looking really good and healthy but anxiety ,,ptsd really suck at times . Your pups are beautiful. Take care OK. Your doing great ❤

    Thank you so much, Chloe. What a nightmare you went through with the chicken food poisoning. That is horrific you had to be hospitalized. How scary to have that happen when you were pregnant and like you said, meds were not what they are now. I"m so glad your daughter was born healthy and doing well now too! I can understand why you can't look at chicken - you went through hell. Thank you for the encouragement! You take care as well! ❤️

    ❤ good to see you got your smile back at the end. Yes indeed it whas not the chicken 😉 it whas good old mr. Ptsd shaking his bud. I wanted to reache trough the screen to hug you. 😊 . Yes chicken can be dangerouse if kept to warm.. i would have been mad at myselve to. But girl, tgese things happen from time to time. Do you have a slowcooker? I have one and it saves my bud on days i know i will be to tyered to cook a meal. Put it on in the morning and 6 to 8 hours later you have a nice healthy meal hot and ready for you. 😊 I enjoyed lisening to your voicemessege. Youll hear back very soon. ❤ Big hugs Marloes .

    Aw thank you - I will take that hug. You are right this stuff happens. Its easier to look back on it with hindsight for me- in the moment it was just rough. I don't have a slow cooker. But I've changed my eating habits since then. I only eat seafood. So I'm not sure how that would work with a slow cooker? I'm so glad it is helpful for you. A slow cooker makes a lot of sense. Take your time wiht the msg reply. Big hugs back ❤️

    I know you can’t eat it but could you use the bone for soup or stock or whatever it’s called ??

  • @IncredibleAnyway

    That is a good question. I'm not sure, but if it was safe, it would've been a lot of work. When I make a whole chicken like that, I always make stock with the bones afterward. I'm just not sure if it would be safe in this instance since the chicken got too warm.

    @@IncredibleAnyway how long is recovery "normally" ? 😂 I don't know much on brain operations

  • @IncredibleAnyway

    @IncredibleAnyway

    @@service_poodles glad you are asking. 😊this is a more rare brain surgery. Many brain surgery recoveries are shorter. This one has a very long recovery because of the vestibular nerve being cut means the brain has to completely relearn how it operates and it has to do it in every single situation and environment I go to. Recovery is as long as it takes for the brain to compensate/learn. And unfortunately it takes a very long time. I wasn’t given a timeline bc it takes so long.
