Itehil Portable, Rechargeable Reverse Osmosis Water Filter for Camping!

This is a review of the new Itehil rechargeable RO filter that you can take with you anywhere to make your drinking water perfectly safe. Unlike regular filters that mainly filter out bacteria, this one has a reverse osmosis membrane that takes out pesticides, fluoride, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, viruses AND bacteria to keep you safe. Whether you're in a grid down, survival situation or are just out camping with your family you can use this filter to get safe drinking water from even questionable sources. The RO filter is good for 500 gallons and the hybrid composite filter is good for 350 gallons. The cost is $39.99 for the RO and $29.99 for the hybrid.

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. I need to get something like this to make our tap water drinkable. We used to have a large system like this and it worked great to filter even lake water or highly mineralized shallow wells for our home. I live alone in a 5th wheel camper. There`s a creek nearby if I ever need it as a water source. I`ve been slowly building a redundant solar system for my camper using various batteries and solar power stations. I`m on a small disability income and the government can take it away at any time so I`m prepping for 100% off grid in every possible way. I don`t trust them. All the government has ever done is ruin my life. The Louisiana state government is 100% pure evil. Their goal seems to be destroying lives from every angle.

That is a real good product, I will get me one of those when they come out. I saw a crazy person stick a life straw in the toilet at Walmart and drink away. I for sure want be doing that. It’s close to being the only way you can drink water out of a creek is filter it. I have drunk out of a mountain stream at a higher elevation, but that is still taking a change. Here is one for you to think about. Vanilla use to come from a gland in a beavers rear end and some still does. Check it out. Take care and stay safe.

@@iteHil Good to see that you guys are keeping an eye on the comments in regard to this unit. With my critical, and sometimes sarcastic view of things, it is one thing to "accept opinions" and another to actually implement those improvements. An example would be the car dealership when they say "all credit applications accepted". This leads the potential customer/purchaser of a vehicle to believe that they will be able to buy the car on credit terms instead of outright cash on the barrel head. So in this case I would hope that Rick's observations of fact in the operation of the unit and providing clear specific specifications of filter life/replacement, gallons filtered/produced, additional pertinent information that would give a potential buyer knowledge to make a decision and pull the trigger on buying one of your products. We shall see. Vague info doesn't cut it now-a-days. BTW, I am 64. It looks good so far and is on my list of items for my trailer. Thanks for the reply.

I was interested when you first posted about this. I also use the Sawyer unit for emergency. I had a difficult time getting info on who performed the analysis and where it's made. The filters drive the cost up per gallon a lot. Recovering the over all cost would require a lot of use. I dunno...I liked the concept and was very interested...but too many gaps with verifiable lab results. I know folks who used filters south of Atlanta on the Hooch who got sick as heck. So I'm cautious about factory claims, especially anything made off shore like china/SEA, I consume or place on my skin. Electric gadgets when they fail just get tossed...I can't toss my liver and buy another. I'll have to do more research... I enjoy your reviews and hope you don't take this a personal bust in the chops. Has nothing to do with you at all..I still carry scars from insecticide china used on clothing 20 years ago.

Have you tried routing the "dishwater" hose into the original source bucket to see if or how well it can re-scrub the water? I intend to perform this experiment when I get mine in (hopefully) a few weeks, but it seems like this would help to conserve available water if all you had was a limited supply to purify. Also, have you been able to decipher what their support says about the usability of the filters? I asked but their explanation wasn't any more clear than the website, where it says the filters are good for (RO Filter 6 month/550 Gallons, Hybrid 1 month/350 Gallons). They did say that unopened/uninstalled filters were good for 10 years, but my concern is that once installed you have a limited window of use even if you don't run any water through them.

  • @gonagain

Your idea for recirculating the water will work fine. The filter life figures that you listed are correct and I've the filters are installed I understand that they should be kept wet. I'm not an RO technician so I don't understand why exactly, but I intend to just run a very small amount of clean water through mine once a week or so to do that. Clean water shouldn't affect the filter life at all.

Try Bluetti or Oupes for a better product. For a CPAP you're better off, power wise, to use it without the humidifier. For the size of a power station, if you're not running a refrigerator too, you should be ok with a 500watt unit and a 100watt solar panel.

@@gonagainIdk about you, but I for one am sick and tired of being a consumer. This product keeps you stuck in that cycle. You need to pay 💰 a LUMP sum of money for the machine, and then you don’t even get the purest water. Here’s the REAL solution to all contaminated water. A water distiller. Cheaper, with options that are both electric and non-electric. The best part? No filters necessary. Ever. Now, you cannot drink distilled water because at the cellular level, where our cells take in water, it would pass through the membrane so fast that it would actually caused the cell to explode. Therefore we need to add back minerals. So, a solution? Mineral stones. Adding back vital minerals necessary for the body such as calcium magnesium manganese potassium etc. I got a setup for less than $200. The stones are guaranteed effective for a period of two YEARS. Longer than any filter.
