    Love clean water for drinking and COOKING in the woods. When out for a week camping/fishing it takes alot of space to keep 5 seperate 5 gal jugs to keep everyone hydrated fed and clean. People forget washing in a stream or lake can introduce bacteria to cuts, eyes, ears, mouth etc

    Hey Chris! nice to see you back at it. I used to watch you all the time about 8 years ago I think 🤔 A lot of my Overlanding gear and prep comes from your suggestions. Just stumbled back here when looking up other reviews on the Itehil Filter unit as I'm preparing for my own review. Great to see you back at it. Take care.

    I was a window cleaner recently, for several years. We used a water fed system for some of our jobs. It was made of 3 different filters, including an RO filter. The way we tested it regularly was with a tool that measure total dissolved solids, or TDS. We had to get under about 10 parts per million in order for our system to be useful. It's like the 'spotless rinse" at a car wash. Only, those are probably in the 50ppm + range. All that to say I'd encourage you to get a tester for this thing. They are cheap. You'll want to know what the source water measures in PPM of TDS, and then what your output filtered water is, and then I always measured the discharge as well. Do it now to get a baseline of what you expect it to do. That way you can check it regularly, it'll tell you when your filter is starting to go bad. We got down to 0PPM of TDS, but that was with 2 other filters. I'd expect tap water to come out of yours probably above 50. But like I said, get a baseline, and you'll know when the TDS raises, your filter is going. Tip: DO NOT let one of these freeze. You may be able to store it using RV antifreeze. I'm sure you know how freezing will be bad, but just keep track of your filter performance.

    Man I've been wanting to get something like this, though now I'm nervous about screwing it up like you did, can I tell for sure the filters are in correctly, before starting it up? I want the solar fan they have too.

    How many microns does this filter down to? Even at 0.00007 microns you still don't have to add minerals, such as the OTS Osmo Waterdrop reverse osmosis filter and the OTS Osmo Waterdrop Seal that even desalinates. Only distilling water will it remove all minerals. Also a very specialized RO filter. The Survivor Filter goes down to 0.05. that's the best field filter on the market. I don't see a practical reason for anything smaller.

    So does that purify salt water like big RO systems?

  • @KevinSmith-os5yz

    Probably removes trace salt amounts from fresh water. Absolutely can't do say sea water. Sea water ro systems need over 1000 psi to operate. Home ro systems like this operate at normal tap water pressure say 60 psi. Good for fresh water only.

    So this gets rid of bacteria, viruses, and parasites, plus chemicals? How many gallons is the filter good for?

  • @KevinSmith-os5yz

    @KevinSmith-os5yz

    Ай бұрын

    All depends on the water, dirtier water means less filter life. Itehil says 300 to 800 gallons on the ro filter. So tap water. Expect around 800, swamp water. Expect around 300.
