Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration.

    A test someone should do: With the hitch locked in place, contrive a very stout clamp with pins protruding from its jaws just a bit smaller than these locking pins. Apply pressure against the locking pins to compel retraction against that angled thngy that rides in the slot to extend them through the outer tube. The idea is to see 1. Can any amount of force break that extender mechanism? 2. If so, how much force? 3. Would this serve to remove the device if frozen in place, as some fear? 4. Would this serve a thief better than, say, simply torching off the ball? Given the number of parts and their necessary level of precision, and the convenience, the price is not bad. However - is this USA made, or China? Also, why 2 levels of capacity? Just make all product to 10K; the price difference hardly justifies 2 manufactures. Finally, far as I can see, no, you can't invert this; it is drop only.

    I asked the manufacturer about inverting it and they claim it's designed to be used both ways. I now have over 4,000 hard miles on it without problems.

    As usual, a great and informative video. My son gave me a copy of Bill O’Reilly’s book for fathers day, “Legends & Lies, The Real West”. The book devotes a sizable chapter to Kit Carson. Although I have read a little about him in the past this book really expressed what an interesting and accomplished individual he was. The book is well worth getting and reading for those interested in the old west.

    This video is dishonest. While it is true that bear spray doesn’t always work, it is also true that *guns* don't always work. The honest truth is that numerous studies have shown that *bear spray has a higher success rate in defending against animals attacks than guns do!*

    This video is about bear spray being useless against a charging grizzly.

  • @valerielhw
    @valerielhw22 сағат бұрын

    @@gonagain Thank you for your reply. Depending on the distance, BOTH bear spray AND guns may be ineffective against a charging bear. I think that group cabins, group hiking and special radios (rather than relying on cell phones) might be the safest ways of visiting areas with grizzlies. Concerning the Canadian couple, I have to wonder if their dog initially aggravated the grizzly into attacking. Dogs in the woods could be either a blessing or a curse.

    The desert needs to be converted with "berms and swails" Take material from a contour ditch and berm it on the downhill side. Or what they've done in African continent...they dig a circular half moon berm and every rain water is captured in that little pond...seeds will catch on the berms and reestablish themselves on those little hills. Eventually the entire area begins to catch the rain and the desert disappears

    Anything you "camp" in instantly becomes a "camper". BUT there are actual definitions to the types of vehicles, or tents, that you might be camping inside. By definition, that is a converted cargo trailer that you're camping in. Now since most of our ignorant human population don't really care about anything outside their Mama's basement, it won't matter what you call something, they will just take an opposing view and argue it to death. I've learned that you can't argue with stupid people. They will always win due to their vast experience and lack of any ability to accept complex reality. Bless their hearts...haha

    Yep, the Ruskies pop a nuke, say about a 800kt they have plenty of, over Kansas about 400 miles up....poof....the entire power grid of the USA is gone....for DECADES, because all those major power transformers that this blew out are made in China. Thing is, in this situation, at best you will only get as far as one tank of gas will take you, cuz no power grid equals no gas pumping!

    I was so surprised when you said you've never seen wild grapes before. I guess because we are always fighting with them to keep them from taking over.😊 On our trip out west these past few weeks, the wind has been our Bain. Fortunately, most of the time it calms down around dark, but not always. We have a small popup camper. It makes you want a hard shell.

    Thank you, Rick and Linda, for your respectful perspective of this turbulent chapter of U.S. history. It's unimaginable. I had a co-worker who'd been given a choice in 1942. Army or internment. He joined the Army, and I suppose he'd be one of the enlisted Japanese men called a "volunteer". He spent the next 3 years fighting for the country that was holding the rest of his family behind barbed wire.

  • @smoothwake

    I came to say the same thing. It’s rotating the ball up when upside down like that, against the weight of the trailer. Probably why it was loose after initial testing. All the weight bouncing around against it. If it were the other way the anti rattle wedge would only have excess pressure if the trailer hitch bounces up.

    Some people are opportunists. They take stuff out of unlocked vehicles, they steal unlocked vehicles. They may have children, they may not have children. Their own parents may have taught them how to do this. We were raised to respect other people’s property, and privacy. Only hoodlums check to see if doors are open. What’s theirs is theirs and what’s yours is theirs, also. Glad y’all moved on…

    You should have flown over to there car and videoed the rig and plate number. Then called the sheriff and sent them the video and plate number, just so they understand what was going on and who they're dealing with. It's a good place to hide if they are on the run from law enforcement. Just because they have a child with them means nothing, how do you know it there child?
