PASTA WITH BROCCOLI
1½ pounds of broccoli, washed and cut into bite size pieces
Salt
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
4 garlic cloves, chopped
¼ teaspoon hot pepper flakes to taste
1 pound of pasta of your choice
¼ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
½ - 1 cup grated Pecorino Romano Cheese

Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. It is in the province of Foggia in the Puglia region of southeast Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina enjoys making food for her family in the same old fashion ways as she was taught by her mother and grandmother in Italy, and also new things she has subsequently learned from family and friends in America. She also enjoys gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
Who is behind the camera and behind the scenes?
Grandma Gina’s retired son-in-law, Nick, does the filming, editing, production, and channel management. Her daughter, Maria, helps with food preparation, kitchen setup and fan support. Also, Grandma Gina usually has one or two grand-kids in the kitchen to help.
Does Gina read the comments?
We print out and show her how much love she gets from all her viewers, and she is very thankful and hopes you enjoy her cooking! Your comments bring her lots of joy, laughter, and inspiration to make more videos to share with you.

Nothing beats a sweet grandma who wants to show her love for everyone with delicious home cooked food. Across all cultures in all the world, that's universal. Thank you Grandma Gina. I figured at my age I'd already have every kitchen gadget I'd ever need but I have to have that cheese grater.

My Lord! She reminds me of my Angie aka (Angelina) she passed away 10 yrs ago, my own Mother passed in 2008 It sure was a treat when I seen her again. Thank you! Lord God! For her blessing so many with her presence 😘😍🙏

Mama Gina, I made this last week and it was so delicious. I love how the broccoli cooked down so that it was almost like a broccoli pesto. I only made a small portion but I wish I'd made the full recipe! Thanks for providing us with so many hours of good food and singing. I'm going through a very difficult time but watching you always makes me feel better 😊❤

I love the way the nutrients are not lost in the broccoli water, by using it to boil the pasta. Also very economical not wasting fuel or water or time. ❤

I haven't been on the computer for quite some time, and OMG - how much I've missed this sweet, wonderful lady. She reminds me SO much of my grandmother who was born in Sicily and sounded and cooked just like Gina. We practically lived in her kitchen growing up. Couldn't wait for her to sing and cried when she sang my mother's favorite song. She passed away years ago, but I post "Mama" (by Jerry Vale) every Mother's Day on my FB page. I have that same Blessed Mother Statue in my kitchen. I'm Sicilian and my Husband is Italian and I LOVE this lady!! Her recipes are wonderful. I never got to ask my Grandmother for her recipes.

Every time I watch Gina I'm taken back to my youth when the Italian side of my family was much much larger. Back then we always got together for celebrations or just for the sake of getting together. There's very little left of that old crew and times have certainly changed. Every time Gina reminisces about people who are long gone and stairs off forlorn, lost in those memories for a second, I get it. She takes me back with her every time. The memories of my large tight-knit Italian family are as magical as Gina's cooking. I can't thank you enough for compiling these videos.
I really want to thank you for this recipe. I'm a momma to a 3 year old with food allergies. I'm always looking for new dishes to feed him because our "safe" meals are limited and they get old fast when you eat them every week. This is so simple and completely safe for my little guy! I can't wait to try it! Thank you thank thank you ❤

Watching and listening to Grandma Gina brings me back to the 50's when I was helping my own Grandma make pasta and ravioli from scratch. Polenta. So thank you Grandma for helping me retrieve those memories that are so heart warming and always make me smile. I am first generation American. Everyone we knew had immigrated from Italy. Back then every Italian house had a second kitchen in the basement. I can still hear my nonna say (insert grandma accent) 'flour goes everywhere makes a mess (insert hand gesture of exclamation) better to use it downstairs' Always it was fun. The best cooks! Do you have a secrete kitchen you don't show us? It would be cute to me.
