Tony said it on his podcast years ago. And listen again, he said that he was thinking it but Russo vocally suggested it n he agreed. It was both of them. Still, I always loved Russo n his styled played a huge role in my writing. I studied his WWF work so closely. In WCW I think he started out so great but, due to a lotta shit as we know, ended up doing some bad stuff

Go figure. How did this ever get approved?? Thought it was the worst thing ever, did too until I saw some of the stuff AEW has done. At least wcw rode it out with the storyline. Aew couldn’t keep a storyline straight for consecutive shows.

Major jump in logic. People blame Russo for the IDEA. Turns out it wasn't his idea.... Russo was a TV writer. Brad Seagal, and at other times Bischoff, were calling the shots.

Im not kidding when i say David Arquette being WCW champion could have actually worked. If Arquette was in WCW back in late 99 looking to see if he can make it the wrestling world. Perhaps a match or two under his belt to get the ball rolling Then in 2000 he stumbles into a world title match and becomes an accidental world champion. Could have made a huge storyline where David needs to prove himself and keeps the belt for awhile. I dont know but everytime i see David winning and him being a great actor feigning surprise. It could have worked

The point was to give WCW publicity. David was not a wrestler, the match where he was booked to go over made sense, he pinned another non-wrestler (Eric Bischoff), but should drop the belt at the next Nitro. If i remember correctly he carried the belt until the Great American Bash PPV.

The only "bad publicity" was the internet marks getting mad because a non wrestler pinned another non wrestler to win a belt on a fake wrestling match.

WCW died the day Ted Turner lost control of Turner Broadcasting, his execs tried to close WCW for years even prior to the boom with the nWo in 96, it was always a money losing operation that Ted Turner bankrolled cause he wanted wrestling on TNT/TBS.
