I'd say Every home needs "Vice Grips". ( The real Mccoy too. Not the Craftsman brand or any other fakery ) They are just as good for those two applications, as well as having the one adjustment, are spring loaded, and have another 999,998 more uses.

You have a saw and it is easy to get a cutter anywhere and so, why bother to put so much effort on a rusted hinge.？

Box cutters are pretty cheap to buy and the blade either retracts or folds in for safety. This is more work than it's worth.
