Greetings from Brazil and thanks for sharing! I made my first repair yesterday, using stapler clips for anchoring a broken fan base. But I have 2 suggestions: 1) Please emphasize that the glue must have low (or very low) viscosity; 2) Please add a warning that melting plastic can generate toxic, asphyxiants (such as carbon monoxide), or even poisonous substances (such as cyanide), depending on its composition.

We used to use a hot air plastic repair gun (not homemade) to repair cracks in polypropylene. I suspect that you can use any thermoplastic to repair others of the same kind. These are excellent ideas. If you can, experiment with different ideas. Then use the best on the real job. Notice that the video uses mostly baking soda or heating the plastic using the same plastic for fill. Baking soda seems to work better than other materials on plastic. I haven't had much luck with graphite but haven't tried too hard.

Those are great tips, I have been repairing things for 50 years and I still learned stuff from you. I use more standard epoxy for strength, again strenghting it with metal screws etc., and use bluetak to mould it. My other thing to use to strenghten the joint is fibre glass tape. You are officially a "Fix-it fairy". To explain this, other people go off and do mundain things, and when they come back, it is all repaired, and they are amazed.😮

fyi heating nylon (most strong parts of flexible plastic in RC) makes it very brittle! Do not try and repair your RC chassis with the metal hoop melted in shown here. I've looked into it at length and there's no real feasible way to "repair" broken nylon plastic parts, the only solvents that come close are dangerous and not easily available to the public and I'm unsure how well they'd work for a repair. The best "fix" for broken nylon parts is to use metal or other plastic to make a "brace" of sorts with a flexible glue around the broken area, or by drilling new attachment points to add the brace. Basically Nylon doesn't "wet" with glue and is a nightmare to glue even in industrial assembly when they have perfect conditions. It's also flexible which is a nightmare as a lot of glues are not!

So nice of you
Making essentially an epoxy or plastic adhesive using ACETONE to break down the polystyrene (cd case) was one of the best things I've ever learned. Being able to make your own epoxy/adhesive for plastics is just freaking awesome. 2 questions though... How strong is the hold? I am not using it for any life critical objects but still want to know if itll hold/bond for a good period of time or is this just like a band aid fix? How long does the mixture stay as a grl before hardening?
Asombroso, espectacular. No solo felicito al instructor y técnico, felicito también a esas MANOS que no están nada lejos de las de un Cirujano Plástico. Hasta pronto, Gonzalo Lopera desde Medellín (Antioquia) COLOMBIA.

Hi there! A great inspiring video in so many ways! I have a gear of diameter of about 5 milimeters, I think not possible to fix the way you fixed your bigger one, but thinking how to duplicate to have a new one, clay and some mixture would be they way I guess
Adding reinforcement is necessary as when melting the plastic for repairs, the carbon content increases making the repair area more brittle. Spot heating the area with concentrated heat VERY careful to not deform the piece and then so the repair can help, but is not always feasible.

Probably should put a disclaimer when you're melting the plastic and the fumes are coming off to at least wear a respirator. I've been painting for 25 years so I know about these things 😢

Using cement powder instead of graphite is much better and stronger. 😊

What is the graphite supposed to be doing? Is it somehow reacting with the cyanoacrylate ?

Better than most. Superglue based repairs are marginal at best. It does not truly bond. It's easy, but not really that good. Low strength. Most of the thermal repairs are good but using wire ties as filler is most often going to be the wrong type plastic use the parent material scrap and shavings instead, That will be compatible, other materials may not be. Better to get a real adjustable plastic welder. Thermal is almost always best to retain strength and it can be reinforced, Solvent based repair using acetone may be ok, buy solvent based glues are usually better

(Quick question at the end) This is awesome, I'm only 6 tips in and must comment how brilliant these tips are. I always try and fix broken plastic stuff, and sometimes successfully, but always messy and crude. Having the proper techniques is obviously key, many thanks for these!! Question: what are those metal stickers? They look very useful, would love to get my hands on those!

Those silver sticky pieces are from a roll of Foil Tape, from any hardware store, or harbor freight tools store.

I'm gonna say this, almost all of these are a "If you have no alternative". Number 10 especially can be done with that same piece they cut and pair of couplers. No need to spend time with super glue or cutting the pipe into pieces. In most cases when you use heat to melt plastic you are almost always guaranteed to make it weaker or more brittle. These techniques can work in applications where there will be no stress on said items for long durations.

Super Glue and carbon, cotton, or baking soda are good for cosmetic repairs. For longer lasting strength, I recommend Epoxy vs Super Glue. CAs are brittle and lose strength significantly over time.

I was saying this on another reply about repairing RC Cars which are often Nylon Plastic, you're better off building a brace or additional structure with metal or fibreglass and epoxy

Lots of awesome ideas you have I always used E6000 to get the job done fixing my broken tiny whoops and micro quadcopters because super glue is just not impact resistant but maybe I will give it another shot using your techniques
