1:00 The issue could be attributed to a bad display/HDMI cable. I had the same issue with my PC when I upgraded to a 165HZ monitor, it turned out that the HDMI cable I was using couldn't handle that high of a refresh rate. I upgraded to a display cable and the problem went away instantly

@@GregSalazar are (were) you just losing video signal briefly, or was windows actually crashing? I have had a similar issue, but it is definitely windows crashing occasionally, not a black screen... if I am in a fullscreen application, sometimes Explorer just reboots itself and I have open folders pop up on top of my full screen program. Or, if I am on the desktop, it blacks out briefly then explorer reloads. It is a rare occurrence, maybe once or twice a week, and I've not yet seen any pattern to when it happens or why (not like I can reproduce it by running specific software or something)...

Had the exact black screen issue with my TUF RTX 3070 (I assume the GPU was the issue, because my 3rd monitor going from iGPU was not affected). Figured out my card was in "Balanced" mode in the Nvidia Control Panel (3D settings).. Thing is, I switched even Windows power plan to performance so can't tell what exactly it was, I am still leaning toward the NCP. Cannot test that anymore, since I changed the card, but year and a half it worked flawlessly.

I would definitely appreciate one of the finished shots with the side panel on. I feel like that's a missed opportunity to show us what it would look like if we built it because we're not going to run it without the side panel.... like the meshify case you did with the green cablemod extensions.. Make sure you run your fan curves to maintain positive pressure in your case. That means, no rear fan, and, the front fans must always spin faster than your top fans if they're identical fans. If they're not identical, it'll be much more work, but you can still figure out what your RPM/CFM ratios are and make sure positive pressure is maintained. This helps ALOT with dust ingress, as, any dust will accumulate on the front panel where it's easy to clean, instead of around any hole in the case (in the case of negative pressure) which is basically impossible to clean without disassembly.

Dude, I know exactly what you're going through, I've swapped things around in my main case so many times, not really because of necessity, but mainly because of aesthetics. My main rig is all AMD, it's not quite as powerful as yours, but it's close, and I've had no issues at all. It's funny, but I actually got an idea from watching this video that I might implement to my rig. If there's one thing I'd say that I've gotten good at is cable management from being so OCD. I used to hate routeing all the fan and RGB wires, but now it's a breeze. If there is one tip, I could give anyone who has got lots of fans and RGB wires is to install and route only one set of three fans at a time. Don't install all your fans and then try to wire it because you'll have a huge mess to deal with.

Another nice video Greg. Keep them coming! I had a problem getting my new super build gaming PC running. Instead of working inside my full-size tower case, I bought an all-metal $50 PC test bench. I transferred the main components to it. CPU, RAM, GPU, M2 SSD, and PSU. At power-on, it would not POST. I replaced these, one at a time, with my older good components and discovered my problem was my new 1000-watt PSU. It was an ANTEC 80+ Titanium. ANTEC replaced it with a new one. No RMA was needed, just a copy of my receipt and a few photos of the PSU. I didn't need to send it PSU back to ANTEC. WOW, what great customer service! I learned that sometimes the one component you least expect to go South will be the problem.

Another subject on your original comment. The 7900 xtx matches the 4080 in most non ray tracing workloads for $200 cheaper! And you get extra vram with the xtx; helping it stay relevant a little longer.

@@TooBokoothat stuttering/freezing is a result of the CPU looking for other memory sources. If you run out of graphics memory, your cpu pulls from the MUCH SLOWER system memory.

Screen going black, and coming back on could be many issues, one graphics card, two ram, three monitor, 4 incompatable resolution and 5 old drivers. One problem I had in a old system is the fan, stopped working because it was dirty, and the card overheated and the screen went blank. I was poor didn't have enough money or another computer, so I opened the graphics card took the fan out removed the dirt from the fan and stuck it back in, and the graphics card worked again like new. So even a fan that is not working can still work if you can clean it out. It was also a great experience I can share.

I had a similar issue with an MSI RX 580 8gb where it would flicker on and off occasionally, which was annoying! I finally figured it out, it didn't like 2k resolution while just doing normal browsing watching youtube, etc. Playing games it didn't happen as much but, I changed the resolution to 1080p and it went away.

I finally see someone with my same issue. That black screen kind of reset bothered me for like a year. I was on a 5800x and a 3060ti and it would mostly happen when alt-tabbing with Premiere open. I just recently built a new rig with a 7800x3d and a 4080 and, so far, it hasn’t happened. I’m on the same OS (using the same drive from previous machine) so it’s such a weird problem 😅

I had, what looked to be the same issue. My screen (4k144hz) would randomly turn black during desktop- or gaming-use, then after a couple seconds a picture would return. Turned out it was caused by a defect and/or lower quality hdmi 2.1 cable in my case.

I've had that same issue with my 2080 ti. It happens when i alt tab from a full screen game to a chrome browser. I suspect it's a driver issue because there was a driver bug a few patches ago that broke dual screen set ups.

always ran an amd platform and i’ve never had issues. only issues i had arose when i had to make a room and move into my grandparents garage for a couple months after covid started, i forgot to insulate the floors and my rig just randomly took a poop. if you can run something without moving mechanical parts, do it, you’ll regret not doing it in the event your rig falls, get to hot/cold, and etc. you’ll more than likely lose all memory on board.

I'm having the exact same issues with my Nvidia system that you experienced in the video. Black screening, driver time outs, and additionally I'm having choppiness with the Windows 11 window animations/transitions. I tried 3 different Nvidia graphics cards and they all had the same problem. I swapped in AMD and Intel cards and neither of them have the same problem. So I'm "daily driving" my all AMD build now. Haven't had a single issue since.

I just recently built my new rig and I ended up going with the ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F but now seeing that smooth NZXT N7 B650E I kind of wish I got that instead. I could of saved a good chunk of cash but I also wanted to go overboard on the motherboard because that's the piece of hardware you want to last the longest. Man that NZXT mobo looks slick. The Cooler you got looks really good too, but I ended up going with the Noctua NH-ND15 because of all the good reviews from all over the internet. I also went with a BIG BOI Phanteks Entoo Pro case, popped out the PSU shroud and HDD bays to free up airflow. At the same time though that case will be very versatile at being changed back into a mass HDD/SSD storage unit. I thought about getting the Fractal Torrent case but i read that it had that weird rubber grip coating on the outside of the case in some areas which gets nasty over the years, plus it lacked the HDD bays and optical drive bays.

I had a sort of similar problem that persisted with 2 different video cards from different manufactures. I would randomly get a black screen when booting up or waking up from sleep. A reboot would fix the issue. I could only do this by powering the PC off by holding the power button in. That wasn't an ideal solution of course. Internet research really didn't have any solutions for me. I finally stumbled on the solution by turning off HDR in Windows 10. The problem started well after I had turn that on. I don't really need HDR turn on in Windows so no loss there. This was a problem that lasted for a few months. Both cards were Nvidia just to clarify. Glad I stumbled on to the solution because I was running out of ideas... Good luck with your rebuild!

I know for a fact that Gigabyte motherboards have a ton of USB ports on it. Also, you are correct Greg. The 7900 XT reference cards don't have any light up feature like the XTX reference ones do (sadly). I have the PowerColor 7900 XT reference.

You can change the lighting on the graphics card or switch them of completely with a tool from the AMD drivers site. The settings menu in the Adrenaline software will you even link to it. I have my LEDs set to a dark red glow. And once set, it stays that way.

For the last few months I've also been suffering from black screens for a few seconds. I narrowed it down to when I looked at video files. I fixed it by turning off Gsync for my monitors in Nvidia control panel. No more black screens. The odd thing was I've had these monitors for years and the problem only started a few months ago. It was probably a driver update somewhere. But it was fixed by turning off Gsync.

Been binge watching your videos the last few days. Thanks for all the great content! I have a question about the power supply. I've been thinking about getting one of the dark power 13's but I've read that people have a problem with the fan making a lot of noise at low RPM's. From what I can tell most of the threads were from the beginning of the year though. How has your experience been with the one you bought?

I just made a new PC 2 weeks ago and I installed windows 10 pro to get everything working. Then I installed windows 11 and the stability issue that you described in the beginning of the video is exactly what I started to experience. My CPU is AMD 7800X3D. The issue hasn't come up again once I power cycled. But I do notice some glitches on applications causing OS crashes on x64 and x86. I stop using them as I assume they have no win11 support.
