Its so fake Gotta love the obvious water in a redbull can, crammed into rider's hand the second he lets go of the handlebars. Need another assistant to awkwardly jam a sponsor cap on his head as soon as the helmet comes off , Tuck in your shirt, be as boring as white bread, Hold up the can and helmet now, say cheese vomit But I guess they still do burnouts at least

When they stop sticker gouging customers I'll consider full on knee braces. At $600 vs $30 for soft braces and another $50 for decent knee pads over the top of those. Keeps things tight if I need it.

Several years back I bought a pair of Asterisk knee braces and was beyond excited to put them on like most people their first time using them. I rode for 15 minutes, took them off and told my dad I couldn’t do it, and to send them back. Felt really rigid on the bike and like I couldn’t move freely like before. Knew instantly it wasn’t gonna work for me. Haven’t used a pair since. TP199 pads are awesome

I feel old. I'm realizing that there's been a whole generation of riders that don't know what it's like riding without knee braces or a neck brace. I'm 44 but when knee braces first came out I couldn't afford them so I stuck with the pads. Wait until these kids learn what a kidney belt is and how solid they make you feel when you don't have abs of steel, lol.

Sooooooo many memories of wearing a GoldBelt kidney belt and bringing around the two velcro straps on each knee pad, pulling up my motocross socks up over them up to my knees, then pants over them. How many times did you see guys rockin' the knee pads outside of their pants? Lol. I blew my knee out at Lake Whitney in '87 and could never afford knee braces until like 2001 when I got Asterisks. My brother blew his ACL when he was 16 before knee braces were around, he's now 49 and had knee problems his entire life and not been able to run since he was 16! No average rider (70-80% of people) is going to notice a big enough benefit of not wearing them to make it worth the risk in my opinion.

I've had both my ACLs reconstructed in 97 and 03 from alpine skiing. I never used braces after the injuries. Surgeon said braces can't stop rotational forces inside the knee. They can limit hyper extension though. I came back a better skier each time and went onto achieve more in the sport. I'm 47 now and have just started using braces for enduro and mx (always used knee pads prior) I do like the fact they limit hyper extension and as a tall guy 194cm I can actually grip the bike better, still ride on the balls of my feet and unlock my hips.......no restrictions. I'll keep using them. Mobius

Didn’t run them as a jnr on 85’s. Dabbed a foot into a inside rut as the bike kept moving forward and my foot was twisted backwards with the momentum and weight of the bike. Almost ended my days of riding. Wore them ever since. Twisted and snapped pods in the past and been told If it wasn’t for the knee brace I wouldn’t ride ever again. So definitely recommend 800-1k on protecting my knees then life long medical bills and knee pain.

Just to clear something up. The VMO isn’t what is going to support the knee if you we ACL deficient, in a closed kinematic chain situation, the Hamstring is what is going to dynamically prevent the proximal tibia from translating forward on the femur (the job of the ACL). Ever felt the hamstrings tendons of someone who is ACL deficient on one side and has ACL on other side?

I've always worn knee pads/knee guards since I started racing. Yes they'd never do much if you came off and landed on both knees, a bike landing on them or someone running over them but I could never afford knee braces even the cheaper ones and knee guards always felt comfy for me but then again I don't race supercross. I use UFO ones, I switched to no fear hinged ones but they where to bulky and weren't comfy at all so I went back to the UFO ones. I have recently spotted acerbis impact evo 3.0 guards that look quite good so I'm going to buy a pair and try them.

I'm 59 years old with both knee's bone on bone. I wear TP99's or TLD MTN Bike knee pads (yes, MTN Bike) because they are so comfortable and do not restrict my knee flex which is already restricted due to the multiple surgeries and scar tissue regardless of how much yoga and stretching I do. My Ortho surgeon 1000% refuses to prescribe or advocate any type of brace, unless if it is tied to recovery and rehab. Once healthy and riding again, he says protect your knee with good padding and support, but no hinged devices as it restricts your natural movement while riding and in a crash. I ride weekly, MX and Hare Scrambles, and I will rock the knee pads forever. The best analogy I can come up with for riding with braces is... you might as well have your Mom ride on the back of the bike with you too!

I blew out my ACL when I was 14. I went down in a corner and my leg got trapped under the bike. I'm 48 now and I've had 4 surgeries on that knee. The last one was a partial replacement. Trust me when I say that once you have injured a knee it will NEVER be the same. Plus you end up doing damage to other parts of your body because you over compensate for it. I understand that at the very top of this sport even the tiniest thing can mean the difference between 1st and 10th. But for the rest of us, we should be wearing as much protection as we can because no matter what position I finish in this weekend I still need to go to work Monday.

I love my TP199s (not because I ride for EVS and got a free pair at pastranaland when I was there for the pitter race) but they feel so good and flexible to me and I don’t feel em when I ride! I will continue to wear them because I ride enduro/desert/ single track trails like 90% of the time I go ride. Rocks and logs and huge hills. I still wear em when I ride tracks because I’m tall and I’ll smack my knee on the bars sometimes and it’s just mental for me. I’ve fucked up my legs so bad from a backflip on a trampoline and missing the mat and landing shins first on the outer ring to doing a tailwhip on a bmx and having the pedals slam into my shins and knees. Anyways I think it’s better to have more mental side better than flexible for me. I’m autistic so just having a wristband on just helps me feel way more calm. So having kneepads makes me feel better and ready to send it!

Blow out your knee then tell me that you won't wear a knee brace. ACL replacement is no laughing matter, and it is far more expensive - and painful - than purchasing and wearing knee braces. I had full ACL reconstructive surgery on my right knee. I won't ride without them.

When gypsy was talking about his son only being 10 and shouldn’t need knee braces because he’s young, I’m 22 now when I was 7 I was racing at a local track and I had an awkward crash, if I was old enough for my ACL to be developed I would’ve torn it, but because I was so young I had to have screws put in my knee that will stay forever. Age doesn’t matter, knee pads are better than nothing, I didn’t have full on knee braces when I got hurt then, just saying. 👍🏻

On that same note as ur not going that fast it doesn’t matter. Stop dabbing ur foot and putting that ski out just keep ur feet on the pegs if u slide out I just ride the bike to the ground it seems less risky for the average rider.

Idk if I'm just old or what, but I never thought knee braces were cool. I wore knee braces for like 2 practices & hated em. Not just cuz how they felt, but cuz they were destroying my graphics! That was like 2001 or something though, so im sure they prolly came a long way since then, lol

At 360kph, knee braces, helmets, etc etc etc are useless. All these braces didn't exist when I raced, helmet and goggles,, shoulder pads, kidney belt, gloves and boots(leather) that was it. My arthritis is bareable most days.

You can't compare road racing to MX because most of their crashes are slides at relatively lower speeds not landing on the face of a jump from 30 feet up or having your leg ripped off by a rut. I would think very few road guys have ever blown out a knee racing and they don't train on their race bike unless they are testing either.

@@GYPSYTALES Relatively low speeds. They usually go down in the corners not at top speed on the straights. It's like calling a 40 foot double small compared to a 70 foot triple or a psycho quad. 100 kmh is better than 300 and there usually is lots of run off making it a lot safer. I've gone 250 kmh but I would never consider trying the whoops.

Man you see the two Honda boys hit the fence at turn 7 last round... I get what you’re saying but both sports have a similar chance for enormous crashes. Also, I crashed a road bike in a turn at 60 last year and tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder and it’s still giving me grief. Crashing sucks period and the argument here is will you reduce the chances of crashing by having better feel and control, or are you better off to brace for impact, literally.

Lol you'd think the acl is the only part of the knee! As much as I'm all for more efficient riding plus preventative measures to limit injury, improve recovery, wear your knee braces if you need em & at a minimum pads. Far too much of the holistic "Yoga" of motocross creeping into the Sport, which as Bambam says, motocross hurts! 😉👊 What next goggles limit the self cleaning of the eye 👁

I have always been taught braces cause more damage if not needed medically. Your ankle is your first line of defense supported by boots, your knee is next to absorb impact or flex. If your ankles and knees are braced your hips take all the force. If you injure a hip that can stay with you for a long time. Your ankle and knee is designed to fail first to save your hips

I raced this weekend. A kid went directly into me, I fell into his bike, my knee got stuck in his wheel. 3rd gear around a sweeper. I had asterisk braces on. Knee and leg 100% ok. If I didn’t have those knee braces on there’s no way I was walking away. My leg was literally in between the kids wheel and the rear roost guard.

I’m 54 and just got my first pair of Pod braces. I don’t bounce back like I did when I was 20. I want to ride for 20 more years. Braces give me extra support and impact for single track and hard enduro. After the 3rd ride I was used to them and don’t mind them at all. Will they stop an ACL or MCL injury, I don’t know but impact and crushing force, yes. It’s personal choice not a debate or an argument, just go ride get out and have fun.

Pretty shitty message to the kids with this whole disregarding safety stuff. Cool the pros don’t use it, but they’re pros. They’re the best in the sport. Telling kids to not use PPE because it slows you down is just stupidity, you guys definately aren’t sponsored by knee brace companies but at this point it sounds like you’re sponsored by surgeons that need the business 👎

  • @ryanmiller9713

Its not disregarding safety, gotta have evidence to back it up and so far with knee braces and neck braces theres no sound evidence or studies that show how effective they truly are, plenty of people will tear an ACL with braces or without, same with neck injuries with or without a neck brace, can argue that you'll ride better without them (in turn ride safer) which makes you less likely to crash, if you're concerned about a message to kids that's the parents job to decide not theirs, if they're old enough let them make their own decisions
