--- ABOUT THE SONG
"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is a 1953 swing-style song, with lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy and music by Nat Simon. The lyrics comically refer to the official 1930 renaming of the city of Constantinople to Istanbul. It also references other renamed cities, specifically the renaming of New York City from New Amsterdam. The song was originally recorded by the Canadian group The Four Lads in 1953.

--- LYRICS
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Still a Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople
Is a Misstanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

But its rhythmic style harkens to the 20's, don't you think? You can practically here Puttin' on the Ritz behind it.

My understanding was this came out of swing and the big band era in the 40s. If I'm not mistaken benny goodman did a cut.

keats27 Yes, this is my arrangement. :) Yeah, I had heard that version, but I felt they kind of trampled the melody by rushing it too much. I prefer the original version by the Four Lads.

It's so good to read in the credits: "Arranged, performed & edited by Julien Neel". That gives the proportion of your artistry. Istanbul skyline effect is brilliant. Well done.

WOW! My Mom used to sing this; what a frolic down Memory Lane! Because you are so versatile, I had forgotten what a remarkable bass voice lurks behind that grin. . . incidentally, you look SMASHING in black, and the facial "gestures" work wonderfully. Pure delight!
This version of the song is absolutely awesome, great job!

This is brilliant! I love it. The passion you put into it is lovely. And I love your dictation. When singing in multiple layers, what usually ruins it is the words running together from poor dictation. This is wonderful!(:
So very incredibly talented!

I'm almost 30 and I've enjoyed this song ever since I first heard it. (I can't explain why!) Fantastic version! Four parts really does it justice- other versions are missing out!!
