--- LYRICS
Of all the money that e'er I had
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that e'er I've done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
--- ABOUT
"The Parting Glass" is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends. It was allegedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote "Auld Lang Syne". The poem was printed as a broadside in the 1770s. The earliest known appearance of the tune today associated with this text is as a fiddle tune called "The Peacock" (1782). This arrangement is inspired by the version of the Wailing Jennies.

I play this every time I visit my dad, an proud Korean war veteran, at his grave at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies outside of Pittsburgh, with a shot of Jameson of course. 🍀🌷🍀

Three years later Wano isnt even over yet, what are ye brabbering about. Also he was partially responsible for White beards death. He neither died nor is he a great pirate, great only in levels of power maybe.
May the road rise up to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face And the rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand -An Irish Blessing

May your glass always be full, may the roof over your head always be strong, and may you be in Heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead.
Been listening to this on repeat for the last 3 weeks. I absolutely adore your voice, and the song. It gives me chills every time I listen. Believe it or not, your channel has helped me a lot through the last month. My Mom's been in the hospital, sadly passing of cancer. This is her favorite song. Anyways, thanks for bringing some joy into my life. I posted a small paragraph on your Facebook page as well invade you don't see this rather long one. Thank you, Abbie

I heard this song for the first time last night and have never loved another song more.
I played your version of this today for my grandmother at her funeral Today. Also for my Father and Fathers Father’s funerals. 🙌
Love the simplicity of this recording. Makes the melody that much more haunting

Coincidently, I've had the AC4 version stuck in my head and have singing/humming this to myself constantly for the past month. This version is really awesome!
Hi Julien, I'm Miguel from north of México, I'm really very impressed by your singing, these kind of polyphonies is something I like to do since a was a kid, I shed a tear hearing The Parting Glass and felt so happy of knowing about this beautiful Irish song. Best wishes!

Greetings from Iowa! Fad saol agat!
This one just gets better and better, no matter now many times I hear it. Thanks for the gift at the beginning of the week, Julien! It's going to be a LONG time till a week from Thursday, though. I'll have to double up on some of my old favorites. Hopping over to "God Only Knows" now, but I'll be back.
*crys at memory of the game*
I had never heard this tune before today. I have been unable to stop listening to it, though it makes me weep.

Grazie mille. Much appreciated. :)
One of the seniors at my school just performed this as their "Senior Spotlight" song. And now, listening to this again, it makes me tear up all over again. He did a piano version of it though.
I have to say it weirds me out to watch clones singing but if I don't look, the rendition is stunning. Beyond words. Thank you.
This is going to sound really strange, but I was so mesmerised by the incredible harmonies, that I started to day dream and my eyes went all cross eyed and made the video turn 3D because of the multiple faces haha!
As a third generation irishman on the Lancaster side of my family, I declare this the best song of the holiday. You never let us down.

Thanks Elena! Still curious to hear what you could do with a cappella self-harmonizing! :)
I love all of your videos to death, but this one is special. Maybe because it's just such a beautiful song by itself. I don't think I have any tears left after listening to this for about 10 times in a row. Also this one is more like a hymn than one of these funky hip songs you are so good at. Anyway, it's special. Truly.
this also made me cry good job
I've been going through the most stressful and difficult time of my life and your videos help me feel a little better and take a load off of my mind at least for a bit. Thank you for this and keep it up.
So hauntingly beautiful, like a warm embrace before a log journey
This song is both sad (in a good way) and calming.
Thanks for inducing me to this beautiful parting song that sounds so smashing in 3-part harmony. You're the best!
Not only is the pitch perfect but the timing. Beautiful... simply wonderful sound.
One of the songs that shall be sung at my funeral
please make irish folk musc more often thanx and good job
ive yet to decide which of your songs i want to have played at my funeral.
I wish I'd known this video was here, I'd have loved the song for my father's funeral. gotta go, something in my eye....
Wow, this song is full of the beauty and sadness of Ireland. This is an excellent arrangement, excellently done. Thank you!

D’ ye mean Northern Ireland? ‘Tis a Scottish song.
This song brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. Thank you for making this video so great! It will always have a place in my heart.
This is one of my favorite songs. One of the few musical farewells that, in my perception at least, is partly about things both ending and continuing simultaneously. Though times can never come back, they still go on. Very well done sir; I especially like that it's a trio.

Some of your best harmonizing, Julien! Truly mellow.
Shiver me timbers (however I spell it, sorry, I'm Dutch) I know this song from Assassin's Creed 4, Ending song, sung by Anne Bonny (I don't know the voice actress) It took my breath away, and I'm amazed by this great cover! Thank you!

One of my favorite Irish folk songs. I always love this one. When I saw The Swell Season live a few years ago at the Hollywood Bowl, Glen Hansard closed with this song. It was pretty magical. Anyway, I love your vox here - beautiful harmonies! Awesome work my friend :)

It's a song from the Scottish Borders. The parting glass is not an Irish tradition, it's a old British hunting tradition in both Scotland and England.
Since AC4, I have to cry when I hear this song...
Your voice, especially in this piece, is very reminiscent of brass. I suppose it is the vibrato and rich depth of tone. In any case, I can't stop thinking of the French horn when I listen to this.
Wow….. just wow.
Beautiful!!

This song goes way farther back than Assassin's Creed. I tried looking up the original author, and I was informed that all Google has on it is "Traditional". Traditional Scottish, to be exact.
That was beautiful!!!
