Nice one, I notice its quite a pile up on most of the passes, I'm getting an Arrow soon hopefully, so should be able to talk through rather than just receive on my TYT

Good to hear you are getting the satellite bug it's lots of fun. I made them with some light gauge sheet aluminium which I folded up into a cradle then riveted them to an aluminium boom extension. Keeping it as light weight as possible. 73 have fun G L

Great antenna Simon, any idea where purchase it from Europe exactly yours? How do you fix the boom to the tripod?

Hi Oscar it's the ARROW mkII. I fitted a L angle piece of aluminium to the antenna boom and bolted it to the tripod camera mount. You should find one on eBay or maybe Amazon. Most ham stores will sell them 👍

Nice Video.. .Thank you very much... 🙂i am actualy looking for suitable radios. Unfortunately there are not many full duplex handheld radios. So your set seems to be very suitable. Isn't it complicated to set dopplershift on 2 radios while the bird is flying over?

Thanks for watching 😁👍, you can get full duplex older hand helds like the YAESU FT-470 but the cell pack are usually needing replacement which can bump the cost up. The best way is a couple of cheap 2/70m hand helds. Set the TX one to 145.990 FM wide band with a 67hz tone. (Save to memory channel). You leave it alone, no Doppler correction needed for TX (uplink on FM birds/ISS). On your second hand held used for RX, start receiving at 437.810. before hand set up the channel step from 12.5khz to 5.0. You can now click down as it approaches and passes by hand. You hear the voices shift down frequency and adjust down 5khz at a time. Some program memory channels from 437.810 to 437.790 and save to memory. I just click down 5k at each Doppler adjustment. Hi Simon, very interesting! I've never tried satellites despite having 2 all mode vhf/uhf transceivers, but it's something I'd like try. Something I don't understand is why the transmitter doesn't overload the receiver. Is there a low or high pass filter in that antenna?

Hi Martin good to hear you are thinking of having a go at the sats. It's very good fun you will be impressed how far you can get. The Antenna doesn't have anything in line but the large frequency gap between 2m and 70cms bands allows you to operate without overloading the RX. The arrow antenna actually come with a duplexer as standard but I removed it on mine and fitted two separate feed lines instead. My shack Satellite station has two separate antenna side by side and works great. However the Arrow MKII is really impressive for what it is. Good luck.

A couple of antiques 😂 for TX up I use a Kenwood TH7e (20 years old second battery) and for RX it's even older but works the best as it's wide band FM the original YAESU FT470 (my first ever VHF/UHF radio) I have been using it since 2004 and it still is awesome for this kind of thing. Nothing fancy required, but the wide band gear is great for the birds 👍
