Great video Simon. I'm using an Elk antenna for satellites with a Baofeng UV-5R. So far I've only been able to listen but, I'm still new at this satellite stuff. Thanks for sharing with the ham community! 73 KI5KGT
Great video, it’s important for others to see that not everything works first time, but with some perseverance you can get results. If it was easy, there would be no challenge.
@@3dntheli thanks Andy I totally agree with you regarding the challenge. I have spent lots of time trying different software, antennas, radios and anything else I can do and that part is the best bit. It keeps the brain health up and it's never completely ever finished. Lol I love the experiments and it is a bonus with a positive result. Tnx 73
Very nice my friend. Give your QSL cards???
@AndreySmirnowGAMEtv hello Andrey, thank you and yes I will be sending a qsl to ARISS 😉👍 good dx 73.
Another amazing one Simon!! I have never even heard NA1SS state side.
@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors thanks Rob I am extremely lucky to have been in the right place right time once again. It is my 3rd time over a 20 year stretch lol. You will hear the crew one day I am sure of that. All the best 73 bro.tnx BTW last nights RS-44 - I heard nothing, I check again this evening.
@@M0YKSHamRadio That’s amazing! I honestly think they stay away from it on this side because it’s such a chaotic mess most passes.
Can barely hear you. Immediately closed this. Please look at better mic solutions. Thr dog barking in the background is louder than you.
@DarkHelmet46 the first min is quiet if you forward the start it's loud and clear. Sat operating is tricky, catching everything on a video whilst outside waiting for an hour for the bird to come over and someone's dog in the next street barking is all out of my hands. 😆
Wow skip is rolling in, and you know that the American use fat boy amps pushing silly powers, but thanks for that happy days, ALAN 💯🍻👍
Glad it sparked some good memories for you 👍 thank you for the comments 73
Sorry wrote something and accidentally put it in one of your messages we're there is too reply. Alan
@alanslade2319 no worries I saw it thanks 73
I got Simon but imagine missing NA1SS when he called ME!! 🤣 (M7DCD)
Nice one, well done, typically, I missed tonight's pass, gutted, What set up do you use to adjust the doppler like that? Do you have a rotator outside too?
@sptvids thanks buddy. They will be other opportunities. The radio frequency correction is automatically changed with the use of a Cat cable into the PC and software which is SatPC32. It does both the radio as well as controls the antennas. For antennas it's a unit called a 232 to USB interface which connects to the rotator control unit. You can see it on my other sat videos. 73 tnx
jejejejej icom kenwood yaesu alinco vertex motorola number one chines radios trash radios
@alvarogaitan2529 yes even the classic yaesu which is 30 years old still kicks the arse out of the Chinese cheapies.
Nice work mate, its a hard job getting through isn't it lol.
@gus452000 lol yes it is! Good fun trying and terribly addictive but it keeps the brain buzzing 😁 tnx 73
Brilliant contact with na1ss. I've got the bigger arrow satellite antenna but never had any luck with it. Think I'm going to try a set up like yours on the tripod. We'll done great video. M7dqo
@gogglet72 thanks bud keep trying you will get a result in the end. You probably know but just in case...set your radio to wide rather than narrow on both rx and tx. 67 hz tone needs to be on for the 145.990 fm uplink. Hope to catch you soon
Fantastic video will look out for you cheers
@@GARYM3GWO thanks Gary hope to hear you soon 73
Just heard you on the iss repeater at 7.35 ish sat 27 july 24 with na1ss is that the crew on board?? What radios were you using?? Well done hope to see a video on it.m7dqo
Nice one man and yes that was the crew active with their call NA1SS. Video uploaded as we type lol. 73 thanks bud. btw Yaesu FT-847
very nice the house next door is having a lot of work
@@hamradiostationg0dtx583 Hi John thanks mate. Yes they have 7 kids so they need the extra rooms. Luckily he is a builder so it's a homebrew job which is taking a lot longer than normal but to be fair he is doing a cracking job it's looking good. I watched him take the chimney down which I know caused a blind spot on my sat passes at a certain position. So far it's all wood and plastic that's up so fingers crossed I'll be slightly better off without the chimney 😉
very nice
@@hamradiostationg0dtx583 thanks mate 😉👍
Good video. I chased that one last night too with my IC705. Good to see on the scope but to big really. Theres always quite a pile up
@@sptvids good stuff on you chasing the birds, that's what I like to hear 👌. I will probably try a nice new Icom eventually when I get some secret savings together 😉. I can connect the same software Satpc32 and having a bandscope could be useful on the SSB birds. For now my FT-847 is still doing well but if I upgrade to the Icom I can use the FT-847 outdoors with the Arrow 🤔. 73 thanks for watching and posting
@@M0YKSHamRadio 👍I bought the IC705 as my first radio, it is good, but wasn't wise move to start out with. I understand it more every day, very complicated, it was interesting to actually see the effect of doppler on the waterfall last night
Great stuff and loved the way you just keep trying, I've got the baofeng and yes it's a great receiver. A mate of mine the other day was just listening to the space station on his QUANSHENG, his channel is just called DELL BOY, very impressive just on a QUANSHENG, thanks again for your work, great to see you not giving up, even when people just coming over to top of you, Alan from LUTON 26, CT48/70. 73s 💯🍻👍
@alanslade2319 Hi Alan thanks bro and I appreciate the watch and comments. I like the Queshang and have a couple which I might hook up to the same sat antenna which I used here and see if they are better than BAOFENG 🤔 keep a watch out for that. The budget radios from these two Chinese manufacturers are great to get into the radio hobby and receive signals very well with the use of a better antenna. I like using them whilst waking the dogs but the big manufacturers such as YAESU Kenwood and Icom are on a next level but also on a much bigger price tag. The best low cost top performing handset I know of is the one my Daughter M7ELC uses which was sent from HAM Radio Outlet - Portland Oregon YAESU FT 4x dual band super clean and awesome. 73 bro tnx agn
@sptvids nice radio for sure and in my opinion you made a right choice as over time you will fully understand everything and it will become second nature to operate. It is nice to have a top notch radio where possible enjoy and have lots of fun with that lovely Icom
Good video to show that you don't have to buy the latest and greatest, but you do need 2 good clean HT'S! Thanks bro!
@@bassangler73 nice one bro yes the quansheng tested out the same again using a Feng for TX. I will try two quansheng UV K whatever they are lol 😂 next and see if they are any better. Cheers man catch you again soon 73
Nice work, bro! It would be cool to contact you on a Sat pass, but we are 4400 miles apart...Be a task a best...lol
@@bassangler73 thanks bro you never know what could happen. Last night was the perfect footprint for USA and UK. Have a great weekend bro 73
Yes Simon!! I work John almost every pass over here. I will be on the RS-44 pass in a few minutes, if you are still up I will be listening for you
@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors I thought of you straight away when I worked him. I am pretty sure it Will be you I hear next. Have a great weekend and thanks as always 73
@@M0YKSHamRadio I need to get my tower up. The passes to the east are really tough right now. I have 70’ oak trees surrounding me and my array is only 35’ up. So I’m in this weird spot where if it’s good enough for me it’s not for you. Oh well, just keep trying. 73!!
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@@2metercrew389 keep up the good work at your end I always enjoy your videos.
Salam Mr simon. Icom place is empty 😇
Salam brother, I need to try one one day so far I never use Icom myself, always Yaesu but I like Icom. 73
Hi Simon, i am having NO luck with this satellite stuff, are your antenna's circular polarised? As i see in the vid your vertical elements are vertical i have mine at 45deg as are the horizontal elements
Hi Chris yes they are both circular. You should still get a result with an ARROW if that's what you are using? I have just been outside on my QRP Arrow trying to crack the pile up on ISS with no luck. That one is difficult as everyone is trying at the same time. The other birds are easier just keep trying. I'm off back out in an hour's time to have another go at ISS 😁
@@M0YKSHamRadio Ok cheers buddy.
This is more than "very nice" and other under stated comments. This is the dream of many amateur radio operators, some of who have been licensed for 60 years and have never worked Iran. Post this on QRZ! Give those old men something to salivate about! I'm serious. Try and post this on QRZ if you can
Hello and many thanks for your comment. I have been very lucky lately with the rare DX, this solar cycle has provided some fantastic openings. I had a look at posting it on QRZ but it doesn't look like something you can do so easily. This video seems to be of interest which I'm very pleased to see. Thanks again and good luck hunting down the DX your side. I'll be beaming towards the middle East hoping to catch more myself. 73
@@M0YKSHamRadio Thank you! I pray for amazing catches like this one, this cycle. And if you're still interested, posting on QRZ is simply a matter of going to Ham Radio Discussions and creating a new topic, posting the link and that's it. Assuming that you are registered with your call sign on QRZ. That's it!
@624radicalham thank you my friend, good DX and I will put it up there and see what happens, 🤔 73 enjoy the radio.
Very nice
Thanks John 😁
Wow Simon what a cool contact!! His QRZ page is impressive! I read the entire thing and learned a lot about Iran I did not know that’s for sure. 73!
Hi Rob, I was amazed with Amirs fantastic signal on the home brew station. He sure has plenty going on looking through his QRZ bio. It's always interesting to make QSO with countries that we are not as familiar with. It's a pleasure to be able to make friends over the air without the politics spoiling it. I find that everyone everywhere are usually very nice people on ham radio. It's a good hobby for sure. Much better than watching TV 😁. 73 bro have fun with the Satellites
@@M0YKSHamRadio You are 100 percent correct Simon! I have never heard Iran on the air or seen them on FT8 stateside. I’m lad you brought this contact to us, definitely a cool experience and eye opening. 73!!
@@W0CYC-HamRadioEndeavors there are quite a few guys active out of Iran I have had three different contacts this year and one was from my Van /Mobile. Keep a look out especially on 20 and 15m 👍
@@M0YKSHamRadio Awesome will do, thanks for the tip!!
great DX contact and that homemade radio sounds good. that is what amateurradio is actually is about, to make the construction plans for a radio, to build it and use it in real like that.
Totally agree regarding the home brew equipment making it the real deal. I get excited with my home made antennas but to actually build the complete station and put out such a good signal is real ham radio.
Interesting contact. I've never talked to Iran. "Hand made radio and 3 element Yagi", may be the most interesting contact I've seen.
@@reedreamer9518 yes very much real ham radio with the cherry 🍒 on top with such a good signal and sounding audio. Amir has done himself proud with a great result. He looks like an interesting guy on his QRZ page. Catch up again soon, how is our sat X project going 😁
@@M0YKSHamRadio Hahaha - I'm trying to get an engineering job working for Elon. If I can get my foot in the door, then maybe I'll work on hitching a ride on a Falcon 9 or a Starship for launching an amateur satellite. ; )
@@reedreamer9518 that sounds cool. I hope it goes well. It's bedtime for me this side but it sounds quite good on the bands. Oh well tomorrow I start summer holidays so a few late night DX sessions to come. 73 have a good afternoon.

New to satellite coms. What program is used to show the footprint of the satellite as it movers across its orbit?

My pleasure as always buddy. Have a good day mate.
Hey Simon - let's build a x-band repeater satellite and ask Elon to launch it for us. We can use my ID-5100. What do you think?
I like the idea of that. It would be a lot of fun both building it and of course having the use of one. If only....🤔 Let's hope Elon likes ham radio and decides to step in and sort out the Amateur radio Satellite bands with some nice shiny new birds with good power supplies and output power. Hey Simon, great work and fantastic contacts. Fantastic sounding audio from your 101MP, are you using an external speaker or just the radio’s speaker, if so what settings are you using to get such a brilliant audio ? Cheers Sam !
@samscement hi Sam thanks bud. It's the external speaker which is also a power supply unit for the 101mp. It sounds awesome in the shack and with all the filters and DSP tech you can make it sound how you like it. I had it set with the DNR on number 1. It has loads of ways to clean up audio, but even with everything off, it sounds solid. Thanks bud 73
Damm you Simon :), i see the video and went dx hunting myself(after midnight though), i snagged lots of USA stations and several POTAs as well, and of course the usual European russians as well :), i proably be trying 15m on friday night :)
