They have been clear of their condemnation of Hamas terrorist attack. They have said that Israel ofc have a right to defend themselves, however this right has its limits. As vice-president of the European Commission Josep Borrell said "this right has its limits: the ones set by international law and, in particular, international humanitarian law. The cutting off of water and electricity supplies and the pressure on civilians to leave their homes is against international law." Further more the EU have increased their humanitarian aid to Gaza and their position is also that Palestinian civilians cannot be held collectivly accountable for Hamas criminal actions (ie Hamas should not be confused with the Palestinian people). They have also stressed to the Israeli government the critical need for Israel to abide by the laws of war. Even before this the EU have been clear that they think Israels settlements are illegal, they have said that it has to stop. They have made it clear that the EU will not recognise any changes to the 1967 borders other than those agreed by the parties.. Their report in 2022 on this matter was clear that it is gravely worrying that the violence from the settlers and the settlements has increased in the west bank. What is it in this stance from the EU that you think they should be held accountable for?

@@sharatainx3990 all hail to President Macron as he has called for a ceasefire. Germany has not and UK has abstained. I'm a British citizen and I'm ashamed of UK stance. I've emailed local MP maybe over 30 times expressing my disgust. France is doing the right thing. I will continue pressing UK to change its approach. Blindly following President Biden is abhorrent. My heart goes out to all the Palestinians suffering each and every day.

Acceptable or not, collateral damage is a fact of modern warfare. Like war itself, it hideous but it happens, and the case of the Gazans is by no means particularly acute. In WW2 Dresden lost about as many of its people in one day's bombing as Gaza has lost in the entire conflict so far.

Hats off to this courageous woman!

Here here. I grow up in Jo'burgh as a white kid in the 80's and witnessed how anyone of colour was persecuted. Luckily for me, my parents were from Scotland (where I now live) and was taught that what the National Party at the time was doing was a disgrace to humanity. It was a disgrace then and this war on Palestine is no different from how the white government treated anyone of colour back then. Remember all the sanctions and boycotts put on South Africa by America and the UK back then? Where are these sanctions and boycotts on Isreal? @samara6041 Owen works for the Guardian. He's not an independent journalist. The Guardian has done all it can to deflect criticism of Israel for many years now. The paper played a key role in the sustained smearing of Jeremy Corbyn and Labour as anti-Semitic, and Owen did his part, fretting in the paper's opinion section that something had to be done to cleanse the party of what was, after all, an avalanche of lies. That he's now decided he's on the side of the Palestinians merely shows how badly this genocide is going down in polite circles. When even Owen Jones turns against you, all the hasbara in the world won't make a bit of difference.

It's ghastly, of course, but it's distinctly odd that Israel's actions prompt so much selective and histrionic rhetoric. These are not 'openly unhinged atrocities', by the way. Israel fires at Hamas, who hide behind the Gazan civilian population, just as Hamas fires into Israel. Again, it's called war.
