Palestine were offered a state in 1936 in the Peel commission, they rejected it, they were offered a state In 1947 in the Partition plan, they rejected it , they were offered a state in 1967 after Israel conquered Judea & Samaeria & the west bank, they rejected it, they were offered a a state in 2000 by Yasser 'Arafat Al Barak, they rejected it. The only thing cruel is your ignorance of the history of this region and have had your mind captured by the Hamas/Leftist media propaganda. Jews have been in this area of land for over 4000 years, the First Temple was built 2981 years ago. If anyone has "mana whenua" status its the Jews. There were no "Palestinians" 3000 years ago. By the way Tino rangatiratanga means self-determination, sovereignty, independence, autonomy. Well, Israel gave Palestine this when they left the Gaza strip in 2005. Israel displaced 30,000 of their it's people to accomplish this, to give the Palestinians a chance to build their own State. They left acres and acres of green houses that the settlers had used to grow food so the Palestinians could be self-sustaining. What did the Palestinians do? They elected Hamas into government which created an internal struggle with the PLO. Thousands of Palestinians were killed by Hamas because they did not follow the Hamas ideology. It's 23 years later and they did NOTHING for the Palestinian people. The Hamas fighter are a bunch of sickening cowards who hide tunnels and munitions in Hospitals and school buildings and home. They hide behind the skirts of women and small children. They are not concerned by the deaths of children, they parade them as martyrs to the Western media when in reality they are the root cause of the bloodshed. Dead children are nothing but the means to an end for Hamas.

The fact that you are reporting about this apparent issue just goes to show that we (8.1 billion humans) are not operating as a human collective on earth. Clearly a global cooperative forum is necessary now, so that all human beings on earth can self-organize with one another and manage each others sociopolitical and economic affairs. To keep harping on presuming that one tribal state or member is to praise or blame for the killing of another tribal state or member is an unenlightened point of view and indicates that we as a human collective have still got a long way to go to achieve this goal. We require better tools and the internet affords us (8.1 billion human beings) this capability to self-organise and customise policies, services and data that cater to the needs of all. This must be transcended and new non-linear, non-hierarchical tools are required now. Tools that enable each apparent individual or tribe to declare their policies or rules and for each of us to be able to serve them at scale. False. Muslims, Jews and Christians have peacefully lived together in Palestine for centuries before the advent of Zionism. Some of the oldest Catholic and Orthadox churches have existed for over thousand years and have been taken care of by certain Muslim families decreed by Saladin to be the protectors. I look at the comments and sometimes can't help wondering if we are living in a parallel world. Palestine as a state never existed. That region which really was known as Judea was changed to Palestine by Roman Emperor Hadrian before even Islam came into existence. If you ask who are the original inhabitants of the Americas, you have to admit it is the native American Indians. Likewise if you ask that question about Palestine, the answer would be the Jews. But that is not the point. History is just change after change. Relevant is that in that region lived Muslims, Christians, Jews. Druze. This was the case under Ottomon empire for 600 years until 1917. Then there were no countries called Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan. The defeat of Ottomon empire was followed by British rule of Palestine and trans Jordan. Present day Lebanon, Syria were under French. To put it simply, 20th century is the century colonialism came to an end. The colonised peoples demanded Independence. Just as the 9% of Muslims demanded a state in British India and were given one even though the Hindus were 90%, so the 19% Jews in Palestine and trans Jordan wanted a state and were given one under UN partition plan. It was the Arab muslims that rejected this and started a war on 15th May 1948, just one day after Israels Independence. That war, started by 5 Arab state armies resulted in the displacement of 750000 Arab muslims, and 850000 Jews from Arab countries were forcibly expelled. If the narrative is justice for the displaced Arab muslims, how about justice for the 850000 Jews that were forcibly expelled from Arab countries? Had the Arab muslims accepted the UN partition plan, there would have been another Muslim state. I doubt it would have been called Palestine, because PLO was not conceived until 1964. So this narrative that its the Israelis that never wanted another Arab muslim state is fiction. Fact is Arab muslims in 1948 did not want, and even now do not want a Jewish state in what they believe is MUSLIM LAND. So if you really care about innocent lives whether Palestinian Arabs muslims, or Jews you would have no option but to agree that Hamas and all other Jihadi Palestinian groups must cease to exist. The Palestinian children taught facts. not fiction and also not have a school curriculum that teaches a GOOD JEW IS A DEAD JEW. The question is do you really care about innocent and peace seeking Palestinian civilians? Israel would happily live along side a peaceful neighbour, but no one in the world would tolerate a neighbour whose sole obsession is to destroy you!

Lost me at the end. So apparently everyone agrees that a ceasefire is necessary to lead to an "enduring solution that respects the human rights, the civil rights, and the tino rangatiratanga of the Palestinian people". No doubt this is a bold and novel idea that Hamas will actively seize upon. Here's a minor problem: being a State involves duties and law, not just rule. The Hamas government has been in control of Gaza since 2006. The State is the duty bearer for human rights, on behalf of the people. The people enjoy those rights, not the state. However, when the state starts a war with a sovereign neighbour, an additional set of international law considerations - and realpolitik - come into play. Laws of armed conflict apply, but also the realpolitik that if you start a war, you're obviously up for any consequence. And you don't get to choose how it ends. We should stop talking about the conflict as if it's a terrible misunderstanding. It's not. The Hamas leadership knew exactly what they were provoking. They just thought they'd win.
