good thing I saw your vid. Installed my 6 stage system, no UV, not too long before seeing this. Decided to open up the purple container and throw in a coil of fine silver, that should take care of the algea for a long long time.

You forgot to flush the two carbon filters separately. I did it this way and plugged my system. There is a bunch of carbon that comes out.

I'm new to your channel, Really loving your solar set up and testing, I'm getting lots of info for system I'm thinking of doing, I work with RO and can offer some tips to help you, Use 5 micron string as first pre-filter as string has twice the surface area to capture sediment and also wrap the clear bowl to stop the sunlight which will stop alge build up, or just order a solid white bowl if possible and keep the clear one as a spare, If possible use carbon block filter instead of gac (granular activated carbon) its a better filter all round and also better for flow, Make sure you get the old flat seal washer out of the carbon housing top and bottom, because if you leave one of the seals in the housing and fit a new filter and tighten it will split the housing after a while as too much pressure on threads and bottom of the filter bowl, Invest in a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter (hm do a good one and won't break the bank)to test your membrane as membrane usually last 8 to 10 years on rain water, reading below 50 on tds meter indicates that the membrane is working as it should, Your 3 gallon storage tank, Turn off water and empty the storage tank and check the air pressure (little blue cap as the aide has a shreader valve similar to a car tyre) air charge should be 7psi, if pressure is too low you are not going to get the proper delivery of water, don't go above 7 or 8psi as it will not allow enough water to store in the tank, Remin filter wrap this in something also to stop sunlight hitting it to prevent the chance of alge growth also, You should get at least 1 year out of the pre-filters and 3 to 4 years out of the other post carbon and re mineraliser, UV lamp has a life span of 9000 hour usually so annual swap should do that, (8760 hr in the year) As rule of thumb usually swap pre-filters and uv lamp and check the storage tank air charge annually to keep it all timed, Keep up the good work If your water pressure is above 15psi consider using a pumped RO to save the other pumps you were having trouble with, usually the pump can be protected with a low pressure switch fitted after the pre filters so if the filters get dirty it stops the switch getting the required pressure to activate, Aloha

The reason why it’s running a little slower is because your r/o tank needs aired up 8-10 psi when no water is in the tank. The filters are there to protect the membrane and it still can make water with almost plugged filters , it would just take longer to fill your tank. You can add 1,2,3 etc tanks if you want more storage.

Great video. You must be reading my mind. Where I live the typical home of two persons has a monthly water bill of about $110. Worst of all is that the water tastes terrible. So, we buy packs of 40 disposable plastic drinking water bottles which just went up from $3.98 to $5.65. So, I was thinking of getting a good filter. There is a system that takes water right out of the air and filters it. Then there is the RO type such as yours. I have been debating which to get. It would seem to me that in your system the UV light sterilizer should be at the very beginning of the pre-filters to kill off any algae so it won't grow in the filters.

Hey JR mahalo as always for the thoughtful comments! So , the 7th stage of the uv light is to be the last stage to kill any microorganisms that have possibly, but unlikely passed any of the previous 6 stages. The reason for the algae building up on that first stage over time is sunlight. I have it in my greenhouse so it gets plenty of light. No visible algae comes from my cistern...it actually looks crystal clear even before getting to the system, but we do have the potential for a few nasty microorganisms, so out of abundance of caution added the uv light. Under sink application would mist likely not have an algae build up. I researched it hard for this environment from our department of health, and they recommend uv as final stage for here in the tropics. I actually used it for months before adding uv, but after reading a lot about a few microorganisms in the area added it. I feel better about that, and now nearly two years drinking catchment rain water no problems at all. aloha buddy 🤙
