Islam is a quiet guy. It's not even his language barrier (which is huge). I watch his interviews in Russian since I'm a speaker. He is the same way. Very soft way of speaking and very modest. I like that about him.

Islam has always been shy & introverted. Khabib has said that many times. He even complained to Khabib a while back, that he doesn't wanna do interviews anymore. He just wants to train. And Khabib said, "No it's part of your job to do interviews." Islam just got back to Russia today & is already back in the gym. The dedication of this man to the sport is just on another level.

Islam isn't pretending to be nice. He was raised in such a way to spend his life being nice and optimistic. Just because he doesn't have sharp responses like Khabib, people think he's not good at mic or he's pretending to be nice. While in reality he's such a humble guy and that "short" comment he threw at Alex was just to promote the fight because he was trying his best to make it look like a good feud but he's terrible at that. People weren't entertained by that and assumed something else about him. Give the guy some time to figure out things. He's trying to get out of Khabib's shadow, ofcourse he'd look confused too. He doesn't have experience when it comes to being a babyface or a heel.

I think self confidence can be interpreted as arrogant. Islam english is still not that fluid. Khabib is more fluid with the english. He still cannot "sell" a fight. If your talking about a carnival barker sense. They are few that can do that. It's a tall ask.

@@Abruzzo333 It's the language barrier that makes them sound like that. Just listen to them when they're speaking russian. There is a reason why in Hollywood the russians are shown with limited vocabulary in order to make them a villain. In reality Khabib is a humble guy and a sharp + wise one too. Meanwhile Islam is humble but not that sharp or wise as compared to Islam. He's a simple straight forward dude.

One thing that’s not being discussed about this fight at all: Islam arguably beat Volkanovski, who is easily one the best strikers in MMA if not the best, on the feet. Even if you think Volk was robbed, you have to admit islam won rounds, and it wasn’t wrestling that won him those rounds. Yes everyone is right to point out that Volk did great neutralizing Islams wrestling, but no one is talking about Islam outstriking Volk (or at least going toe to toe with him)

The answer is he is a real religious man that truly honours that, they have real respect for what they do and their opponents. They have honour, not everybody wants to be controversial and they’re not wrong for doing that, Khabib became popular being true to himself just like Islam, and that’s what makes them so likeable. And Islams response to Nate was funny and believable, way better than if he came out with some angry response

I think most of you guys can’t think. What Islam just did in the shape and situation he was in, was insane. He went al the way to Australia, the crowd was against him, he cut weight badly and was drained (this has a lot of effect on the fighters). This sounds like Charles going to Abu Dhabi, but Charles could not get the job done. Islam did get the job done and based on rounds, he definitely won the fight. Keep in mind that in this fight Volk was in best shape, because he did not really had to cut weight. Islam did not prepare for the wrestling part and wanted to prove something with his striking and in my opinion he did it fcking great! He fought standing with arguable one of the best stand up fighters. And Islam was more precise and calculated than Volk. Mark my words, when they do a rematch and then in the home turf of Islam. Islam wil demolish him and this time he will dominate him in the ground, because he learned his lesson.

Both tapped gloves before and after every round, there is clear mutual respect. Both fighters are a credit to their upbringing and it should be cherished. Sports should embrace nice guys, those are the type of guys you want around your family when there is trouble around. They are strong but respectful and kind, which allows and motivates them to protect others, the reluctant leader types.. UFC is lucky to have some of their greatest fighters to be such role models, GSP, Fedor, and Khabib are also cut from the same cloth.

He's not necessarily boring like Beneil, Shavkat and Arman. The guys that are extremely talented but really quiet. Islam isn't that quiet and if he chooses to be so, why not. Move on folks. Its time for dariush or poirier to get a title shot. Islam vs edwards is also an interesting matchup at 170 only if edwards remains the champ. Alex is clearly not the p4p no.1 . This ranking is BS, we already know who dominated who or who is more talented/skilled.

I have young kids that are training in martial arts and I point to these guys so they have someone to look up to as opposed to a Conor McGregor or a Nate Diaz who usually surrounded in controversy with their rudeness and vulgar acts and antics out of the octagon. I get it how they want to promote a fight to get views, but to try to put down somebody's race, religion or family is dishonorable and it only sells the views to mostly other like minded vulgar people like they are. Sir Chael, if you read this pls, requesting your wisdom/view on below, After two days of coming over the reactions on UFC 284, its still surreal on how technical of a contest it was and both athletes showing their supremacy.. But i felt this, outside of extraordinary skill matching Islam, the size narrative has been the biggest driving factor and an overshadowed aspect of fans, media and fellow fighters contending that Volk is the better fighter of the two and highlight as David Goliath. Here is my question sir, when DC was dwarfed on his entire career which spanned with HWs and LHWs, skill for skill, he was never appreciated to the level of Volk. Volk infact only had height disadvantage, not the frame nor reach and he also didn't deplete losing pounds, infact he added more to this contest, regardless of the fight night weight. I felt the overdue credit for Volk belittles the efforts of the LW champion on the image portrayed , now that he is not given the ranking too!!! I ask this to seek your perspective. I have been a fan of this sport from very far away for over 15 years and this is my first ever query to you sir Chael 🙏🙏

The fighter that the UFC judges say won means nothing to me at this point. Robberies happen almost every card now. The fact is that Volk put a beating on Islam. If it was a fight to the death, Islam would no longer be with us. The fact that he had a massive size difference on Volk only further cements Volk as the p4p better fighter. You are being dishonest or delusional if you think Islam would have a chance if they fought at featherweight. Lastly, look at volks face after the fight and look at Islam's. Hugging a a guy on the ground and doing nothing with it for half the fight shouldn't win you the round.
