I live in a super hot country (temps reach about 130°F or 52°C) and using my phone (xs max) outdoors during daytime makes it heat up like crazy. It starts lagging and even gets a little too hot to hold. I've mostly lost battery health only because of heat. Wish they had some kind of cooling mechanism, especially when they're charging so much for these phones.

I used to use mine to fly a DJI drone. During the day, the screen would get so dark I couldn’t see. At night when the air was cooler, never an issue. I assumed the darkening of the screen was a heat issue

Now this makes me wonder something. If using the iPhone whilst charging makes it get more hotter, is it safe to have an external battery bank?

I always wondered if this was a common issue with iPhones. Guess it is. I have the Xs Max it’s my first iPhone to own. Had it for 3-4 years already. I noticed it would get fairly hot throughout the years. Has apple fixed this issue with the newer models at least?

Only happens when I'm on a call. Phone is charged from 75-87% no apps or tabs open. Phone just started doing this after latest update in Oct. 2020.

I don’t get it. Apple CarPlay charges the phone because you have to plug it in and uses GPS for navigation at the same time laying it on the induction charging pad which is built into the car as a place to place the phone. An unavoidable combination and it gets molten lava hot! I don’t get it. Phone gets hot, apps freeze, apps crash, calls fall off, texts send as sms not iMessage and pictures won’t load on any websites. It’s a brand new iPhone. I never ever have background app refresh on. I always close un used apps in background. I turn off Bluetooth. I keep brightness down constantly. Any advice?

Even In a very cold room in still gets hot but I’ve noticed that taking off it’s case for a few minutes cools it down really fast.

Mine usually heats up on cellular data. If your phone heats up while charging, make sure you’re using a real 5w apple plug and a real apple cord.

Yesterday I learned why my phone has been getting very hot and charging for much longer: my Airdrop was on and probably someone in my neighborhood or a malware had been accessing the device, so I switched that off. Afterwards I switched off bluetooth and my phone cooled down very fast. It’s been a day I have bluetooth switched off and it has helped. If you do not need bluetooth, just switch it off, example if you’re going to bed just switch it off.

It’s because of the 20w plug. Use a 5w. It will stop the overheating.

My 12 max getting super hot when charging. I had to put an ice on the back of it. Im figuring this out

Probably because of the 20w plug. Or MagSafe. Try using 5w. It will charge slower but it should help with the overheating.

One of the reasons I quit buying iPhones. Literally every iPhone I owned had this fkn problem till the point where the screen was just coming loose of its frame. I switched to android and NEVER experienced an overheating problem. FYI not saying everyone should make a switch to android, this is just a personal decision of mine.

I don’t know what you guys mean by hot, but my hands burn without the iphone showing any symptoms, I suspect that called warm, everything runs smoothly, sometimes screen get low light, that’s from my fingers blocking light sensors, so I don’t know what dimming does. Also take off ur case, disable notifications on some apps, put your phone in low battery mode, close tabs on safari or chrome, close pages on phone, and turn on airplane mode if possible

This. I keep my phone on low power mode and on flight mode when I’m not expecting calls and my iPhone remains cool all day

I have an iPhone 6s, the problem is that it doesn't even need to be "hot", just warm (when I'm using Spotify for example listening to a podcast) after a while the screen just completely crashes, it's not completely black but a very heavy white dim which makes it almost impossible to see anything, I can see the apps on the home screen if I really focus but the screen is like 95% blank. And it doesn't give me any warnings at all, so I think the phone is simply getting old but I'm not sure. The only way to fix it is to go inside somewhere and let it cool down, I have the latest iOS update and my apps are updated, so I don't understand what could be causing it.
