Is this the worst hotel in Bournemouth?

Ойын-сауық

I stayed in one of the worst rated hotels in Bournemouth via Tripadvisor. The Russell Court Hotel on Bath Road. My original intention was to stay at The Brittania Hotel nearby, but it appeared to be full of asylum seekers/refugees, so I chose the next worse I could find which was this one.

Go back to the 80s and 90s and the Russell Court was one of so many AA/RAC 2 or 3 star hotels that was family run, well maintained and attracted regular guests - couples after the summer season was over, British families during the school holidays on a week’s package. Now, like the vast majority of such hotels in Bournemouth, it’s been run into the ground. I had to stay there about 5 years ago and, even then, the whole place had a certain pungent smell throughout, and the furniture and upkeep was as bad as you saw it now. That said, it’s probably no worse today than dozens of similar former family hotels in town - some, as you noted, are now closed to the paying public and handed over to illegal economic migrants and legal asylum seekers, all accommodated at taxpayers’ expense.

Bargain considering it’s down south - when you said £25 a night I expected much worse - as long as the beds and sheets are clean I can forgive a fair amount. Good fun video.

The Russell Court Hotel got its bad reputation after they took in the homeless during the covid pandemic as part of the everybody in initiative. That was really great but they treated the homeless people poorly and then continued to house the homeless people alongside the paying public in which they treated all guests exactly as they had the homeless people. Poorly

I love these type of videos. Yes the building is dated but clean and basic and reflects the price. Some people have been overdosing on watching The Hotel Inspector. Having no toilet roll was the biggest disaster. More of these videos please Stephen. Be great if Blackpool hotels/B&B's could offer you a free overnight stay, with breakfast to review and advertise their businesses.

With the extras like parking and WiFi, it actually makes it more expensive than local Premier Inns, IF you book in advance. We generally pay around £40 for a family room around Bournemouth, even in August. But again, booking in advance is they key. We've actually booked 4 separate dates for family rooms at Premier inns by Blackpool, not paid more than £30 for any of them.

I thought I was watching Four in a Bed then sir! It doesn’t look the cleanest but for the money and for a night it looked ok if your on your own. I think you also have to consider the location. That was certainly a different walk on the wildside video but I really enjoyed that!! Good job you noticed the toilet roll was missing! 😆

The Britannia hotel seems to have taken in a lot of asylum seekers around the country as it seems that the general public have found it to be a half star or a no star status due to what they have found when having had to stay in one.So they seemed to have jumped on the band wagon of taking in people for cash from the government.

Wow considering that’s suppose to be a low budget hotel, it looks pretty reasonable especially to get a twin room when you paid for a single. It’s probably not completely immaculate you could probably find several small faults and dirty areas but to be honest I have seen a lot worse. Britannia are particularly famed for their poor quality dirty hotels but you could have come off a lot worse Stephen 👍

The Royal Bath Hotel used to be the best 5 star hotel in Bournemouth. The rich used to stay there. It's falling apart now because Britannia now own it and have abandoned it. But it still has signs it was once high class. There are 4 or 5 hotels in Bournemouth that are quite bad but for around just a little more than £20 a night off season you can't really complain.

So many of these 'old' hotels aren't required nor meet modern standards. Upgrading/modernising would cost too much for little return so owners (most of the hotels are on prime land/location) want to sell for the hotel to be demolished. However, they have to jump through so many hoops for a hotel to close that all they do is run the hotel literally into the ground, make them a social shit pit until the council has no choice but to agree to the closure then leave it to planning for the new development.

It saddens me that we dont do anything to help the homeless especially our ex forces people. I know that there could be bad people out there drug takers etc , but there are some people who need a helping hand to get back to a decent standard of living and support in finding work in an effort to improve their life, If we only we did something like this to support them and maybe monitor their progress at the Hotel in finding work, if they didn't make any effort what's so ever then tell them to leave. I have absolutely no doubt they were checking my room every time I went outside looking for a reason to kick me out. They make you leave your key at reception even for a smoke at their door. They are very un trustworthy, but I believe the reason for that is due to all the people they took in from the council over covid and more than likely being fucked over multiple times. My room was tiny and massively over heated, but in the end they realised I wasn't a problem and left me alone. Its cheap for a reason and really not that bad overall. By the way their restaurant is also seriously one of the best curries I have ever had.
