Is This The Worlds Most Versatile 5'2? | The Firewire Glazer Surfboard Review In Everyday Waves

Спорт

We review the Firewire and Machado surfboards Glazer in a variety of everyday waves. This board might very well be the most versatile, and high performance hybrid fish I have ever surfed.

Man I love this board. I remember watching your comparison video when looking at these boards I was on a 6’6 puddle jumper at the time and ended up going with the seaside. I was a little nervous dropping about 5L in volume and at first it took me a while to figure out, but once I got it dialled it was a game changer. Fast forward 3 months and a Glazer popped up on gumtree and I picked it up for a good price since then the progression has been constant for me. At the time I was 97kg after lockdown I’ve dropped a lil over 10kg since then and could probably size the boards down a little more but they’re so much fun. I would definitely recommend the glazer for those beginner - intermediates who are looking to start riding shorter boards. Also the MR twin plus trailers go really nice with it if you’re looking to play around with the fins.

Hi Brenton, that is some really interesting feedback. Stoked that you took the plunge and it was worth it!

Hey! Loved this video 😁 do you think you can make a detailed video on shortboards, fishes, mid lengths, and longboards please? I like noseriding and the longboard paddling, but I feel unsafe on a full on longboard because of how much hoard there is. I like shortboards because of how little board there is and how you can duck dive under large waves, but I’ve never caught a wave on one. I’m looking for good mid length board videos, but haven’t found any yet! If you could make a video on that, that would be so helpful! Thanks!

It may not be the best board for groveling but it does handle flat sections well. I was surprised how it kept going when I moved my back foot up a touch. Great all around board.

This video was incredible! I'm a beginner surfer, and currently have an 8' wavestorm (foamie longboard). I'm from southern california, I'm 15 1/2 years old, I weigh 130lbs, and I'm 5'10", and can struggle to keep the board under control when getting thrown around in the more powerful surf. But I absolutely love my dads Puddle Jumper from lost surfboards(5' 11", 41.75 liters). I think my main problem is paddling out, and getting through the breaking waves. Do you have any tips for me, and what might the next board be that I should look for? Also, winter is coming up very soon, and I only have a 2/2mm summer suit from Xcel. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks anyone who might reply, and have a great day everyone! 🏄

Hey Ezra, thank you for your feedback, glad you liked it. The volume and size of your foamie would be making it hard, you could consider something like your Dads paddle jumper, but with lower volume. I would look for some second hand boards similar to that design...In regards to wetsuits, it depends how cold things get in winter for you, but I generally stick with a 3/2 , booties and gloves when it gets really cold. If you are still cold, try a hood and even a 4/3. We certainly do have videos which can help with negotiating the waves, check out our playlist for these, I think they will help. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5aMzZKJdq7MoMo.html - kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4CHtLqOipzeerw.html Please let me know if you have any other questions, good luck!

Hey mate, keen to see what you think about sizing the glazer, I have a 5'8 seaside, 35.4ltr, love the paddle power, but feels boaty sometimes surfing it, skips out abit, and super fast in bigger waves, hard to slow it down or turn when its big, ive oversized it mainly for paddle power. im 70kg, intermediate. Like more drawn out turns, but want to progress more performance and releases, Thinking of a glazer for the better days, and to offer more performance progression, and using seaside in the fat slow waves. Should i go same size and volume as tge seaside , or drop down do you think? Haven't had an lft from firewire either. Cheers

Hey Josh, if it was me I would consider dropping down to the 5'6, especially if you feel like your 5'8 seaside is "boaty". For me the LFT doesn't feel as floaty as the helium either. If you like riding shorter boards I think it would be a great choice. Let me know what you decide!

@@TheSurfersJourney hey. Yeah i haven't ridden lft, so thats the hard choice with volume comparison. I like the volume in the seaside for paddling, but its sometimes boaty whn riding. So im just wondering if the shape of the glazer and the material, even in the same size would actually still feel better, as a better wave board. I definitely wouldn't go below the 5'7 because i dont want to lose the volume, but also stil not sure if, because of my concerns above, even the 5'7 will feel so different.

Contemplating getting this board for Christchurch! Board looked too small for you tho. You surf well on the rail and 2 more inches would have looked hot. Great review and feedback all together.

what if I oversize it a couple of inches for guttles waves?

You could try that, but I think the seaside or go fish are better choices for gutless waves.

Do you size it the same as your seaside, or shorter?

I like to use volume as an indicator for which size I should go for, especially with stock boards. I went the 5'2 because it was closest to what I usually ride in a board like this. Hope that helps Jason.

@@TheSurfersJourney cool cheers, my seaside feels perfect a couple litres more than my shortboard. Might go somewhere in the middle for the glazer
