That's a great starting lens. But yeah keep the 35-150mm on your wish-list if you want to improve the quality of your image without losing to much zoom range.
Great topic! Would love to hear your thoughts on why you chose this over the new Samyang version of this lens. Also, super grateful for the information and experience you share here but was wondering if you might consider choosing a soundtrack without explicit lyrics so I can watch with my kids in the room. The Samyang version was not out yet when I originally purchased this lens. But it seems to basically be a cheaper version with a few things taken away.
I think these lenses are good! But I would rather go for the Sony 28-135 specially of it's parfocal feature, which is very important while zooming in or out, the other option but loosing a bit of quality is use a B4 lens, i adapted a B4 lens to my Sony a6400 and it works perfectly fine with a shoulder mount rig, and I can go from 22mm to 470 mm with the 2x and 1.3x of clear image zoom to avoid the vignetting, is crazy!

Bro I have a question about monetisation. I see some sports channels are not monetized and some are not, why is that? The ones im referring to seem to be doing the same thing. Its odd. In both instances they both have the min subs and watch time needed for monetisation. Any thoughts??
I got that lens Oct last year. The only time it comes off my a7iv is when I really want a below 2.0 aperture or 24mm or wider shot. I haven’t use my 70-200 since I got it. Like you stated, the weight does get to you after awhile. when on sticks it’s a non-factor. Hey E! Love your videos. Question - I’m a Canon shooter and have been looking for the closest “all-in-one lens” and wanted to know your thoughts on the Canon RF 24-105 2.8. I shoot primarily basketball indoors and was hoping that the zoom range of 105 would be enough for both photos and videos in the long run, compared to a 24-70 or having to buy both a 24-70 and 70-200.
@BeyondTheGame_E

Ive never used it myself but the 24-105mm F2.8 is a great lens. It has a perfect range for filming basketball. Not sure about photos though as I’m not a photographer, I guess it depends how tight you want them to be. But yeah, I would definitely get that lens personally if I was shooting indoor sports on a Canon camera.

The Samyang version was not out yet when I bought this lens but I think I would still buy this one. The Samyang is cheaper for a reason. They didn’t just decide to make less profit. But it’s still a great option if you can’t afford the Tamron.
I've been watching a lot of videos to upgrade my equipment. I'm 99% sure I'm going with the Fx30. What would you think about the FX30 and this lens filming hockey and football from the stands? I don't need to zoom in super close with either sport. I don't get paid to film either sport and only do it as a hobby and memories for my sons. So I'm trying to keep the cost down as much as possible.
@BeyondTheGame_E
Жыл бұрын
I think this would be a good combo for you but I guess it depends how far the stands actually are. The front of the stands in a hockey arena should always be fine, I’m just not 100% sure about football. By the way, if you want to save money, Samyang just released a cheaper version of this lens. I have no idea how good it is but it’s cheaper and is supposed to do the same things.

@@BeyondTheGame_E awesome thanks for the reply. I'll definitely check it out!
After watching this video and a few others, I'm still on the fence. I've been using the Tamron 28-75mm and 70-180mm combo for about a year now, for everything from events to sports to interviews. The biggest bottleneck has been needing to switch lenses on a dime when the action moves from far away to something close, and the 70-180 just cant get wide enough. and vice versa. For that reason I'm inching closer and closer to selling both for the 35-150mm, but like he mentioned, the weight is a big concern. I already get back pain after an hour and a half of holding my rig with a 28-75mm on it. cant imagine the fatigue of this beast. Also, does anyone have experience using the 35-150mm on gimbals? There's likely no way my Weebill S can stabilize that with a A7SIII, and I'd prefer to not have to upgrade my gimbal too since I love the compact form factor of the weebill. If anyone has made the same switch and is much happier because of it regardless of those couple tradeoffs, please let me know!
@BeyondTheGame_E
Жыл бұрын
Regarding the gimbal, I don't know the weight limit of this particular one but you would also need to consider extra weight at the back for better weight distribution. Otherwise the lens would probably make your rig too front heavy for a gimbal.

interesting review and lens. I think you are right about face/eye detection being disabled but that's not much of an issue to be honest. I typically film with a wide focus zone and I have my thumb over the LCD screen ready to touch-focus the right player if the camera selects the wrong one. I also sometimes film in manual focus with focus assist turned on.

I bought this lens to match with my FX30 to video indoor gymnastics meets and deal with poor lighting as well as variable distances on the events. I was pretty happy with it for the first meet. Video quality was great but the low aperture is something I need to learn to play with combined with auto focus and busy backgrounds. The shallower depth of field isn't very forgiving when trying to pick your subject out with a sea of background faces and people. A monopod went a long way towards helping with the weight.
@BeyondTheGame_E

@@BeyondTheGame_E Those are the nuances I'm trying to learn. For beam and bar the manual focus would work great.
