Are you new to sports videography and not sure where to start? Beyond the Game is a source of educational sports videography content giving you the tools and knowledge you need to create epic sports videos and ultimately achieve your dream of working alongside the athletes you idolize.
A little bit about me... After 6 years producing content for NHL, NBA, and UFC live events, I left it all behind me and decided to follow my heart and move to Australia for love. I still had a passion for sports videography though, so I quickly started learning as much as I could about Australian sports and the Australian sports industry. The next thing you know, I was producing video content for sport clubs, federations, leagues and promoters all over the country while documenting my journey on this channel.

What SD card do you use or recommend for the fx 30 shooting in 120 fps?
😅can i attached to s5ii
What softwares are out there for editing??
Too many to list in a comment to be honest. I personally use premiere pro but you’ll find hundreds of options for a variety of prices through Google.
How many slow motion speed?
I was shooting at 120fps and the slowmo footage is at 20% speed.
shutter 400???? wtf did u know about setting for video?
I don't claim to know it all but I've been a professional videographer with high-end clients for over 20 years and things have been going pretty good so far.
@@BeyondTheGame_E why shutter speed so high? 1/400 a lot for slow motion I think
@@sevenstudio4250 gets rid of some motion blur which makes the footage appear sharper. It’s something I like to do for sports because there’s so much fast movement and therefore so much motion blur. But I understand it’s not for everyone.
HI. WHERE DO YOU GET ALL THESE EPISODES
KZread
How about copyright claim for the video
Check out this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/p62sqbCpf6fKms4.html
nice to 60 fps....but in my case, i have the sony a7iii and the 4k work just in 24 or 30fps....lol....yep...its a little be hard...
Why is 4K so important to you? Personally I would shoot in 1080/120 or 1080/60 if I was you. But this technique works at 24 or 30 as well. I would use a higher frame rate mainly for the ability to do slowmo in post.
@@BeyondTheGame_E I believe that 4k in 24fpse brings a better quality....sometimes I use tracker in transitions, and the crop in 4k helps me a lot! But I'll try at 60fps, because lately I can't stand being limited to ronin s anymore lol! Thanks for tips Bro! Crazy channel!
I'm a video editor with more than 8 years and this video is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good.
Thank you!! 😊
Buying a product that was designed to solve a specific problem is not a hack
Pardon me for asking... I recently started to shoot a couple of local ultra running events during my down time... I noticed that I'll be having trouble if the run was during noon/mid day and my pictures were severely overexposed. What filter I can use to overcome this or is it enough with just adjusting exposure compensation on playing around with shutter speed. Thank you in advance for your answer.
You need a variable ND filter. Something like the one in this video.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Thank you very much for your reply… Really appreciate it…
"Use your stomach" Finally! My gut actually has a benefit!
😂
What about at focal length of 400mm? And when you want to zoom out from 400mm to 200mm?
The technique is the same for any focal length. But at some point you will need some type of support to stay stable. 400mm is extreme and filming handheld at that focal length for more than a few seconds without shakes is almost impossible.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Thanks for the reply. Yes even with a fluid head tripod I try to keep the action I am shooting within few seconds. I will be experimenting with your method it is very helpful thanks
Your workflow explanation of adding 10 seconds, adding all of the text effects then adding another 10 seconds sounds like me right now. Going to change that on my next video edit and compare how much time it saves me.
Keep me posted!
if you can pick one, this or the Gmaster mk2 which one would you pick?
If I can only have one lens it would be this one because the zoom range is more convenient for both indoor and outdoor sports.
Really good video, ive been using Gopro but need to change to skmething stronger to record my football matches.
If you’re looking for a budget option, this is a good one.
@@BeyondTheGame_E I have bought it now, what settings would you recommend for sport games in day light?
@@Ubairr I would personally film at 1080/120 with the highest bitrate available. Keep the ISO to a minimum and the shutter speed between 1/250 and 1/400 and use a variable ND filter to control the exposure.
Hi, I've just come across your videos and I want to start editing sports content! Silly questions, but what software do you use to do your editing and are the packages you offer only compatible with it or whatever software I use? Anyway, I'm glad I came across your videos, they'll be a great help!
Hey there, thank you for reaching out and for your support. I personally edit with Premiere Pro but my packs work with all the other popular editing platforms as well.
@@BeyondTheGame_E thank you for your responsiveness 😁🙏🏾
@@Makia_deux_fois No worries!
What lens did you use?
The same two lenses I reviewed in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaF7xrmepZOyfMo.htmlsi=qZ7lPJJhzjI5UKWK
Hello, what resolution and fps do you use in the rugby edit?
1080/100fps
Thanks bro 💪🏿
You’re welcome!
Man what if Inta eats quality when I use carousel??? Same image if uploaded solo looks good, but in carousel it’s trash
Overheating and crop yikes!
Definitely not ideal but still manageable.
What editors do you recommend for nba edits? (Mobile)
In mobile, probably CapCut.
What LDC screen are using on this set lens and hot shoot mount? @Beyondthegame
The monitor is the Portkeys LH7P.
Speed ramping is the scourge of most highlight videos today. This effect is way over-used and gets annoying quicklky. Otherwise, good tips.
fantastic footage 🔥 anyone know if this lens has gyro data with sony catalyst browse?
Gyro data is in camera only. Never in lenses.
@@BeyondTheGame_Ethanks for the reply. Yeah totally, but it only works with certain lenses, just wondering if anyone’s verified gyro data with this
@@SketchBenjamin As far as I know (I could be wrong) but I'm pretty sure it works with all lenses. The only thing that could be affected by the lens is if you use the lens stabilization. But even that won't have a huge impact on your ability to use Catalyst browse successfully afterwards.
@@BeyondTheGame_E thanks again. I use catalyst browse a lot and it really does depend on the lens. But not to worry, great vid, thanks anyway!
Can you please tell which lenses you use in this video with a6700 ??
The Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8
Hi E, so u shot mostly in 1080 60 frames for this video since we can’t do 4K 60. I have a basketball game coming up and wanted to do some slow downs but in 1080 60 frames I feel like I will loose
I shot all the sport action at 1080/120.
which shutter angle did you use for the tracking clip?
I can't remember exactly but I probably shot that at 120fps with a 1/320 or 1/400 shutter speed.
not bad...i actually understood something....and i can bring it into my workflow....nicely done...thanks...
Glad I could help!
thank you....really cool lesson...
Thanks for the great feedback.
Try 60 fps and 1/60 or 120 fps and 1/120 shutter. Works much nicer!
There's way too much motion blur at those shutter speeds for my taste. Double my frame rate is the bare minimum for me. But to each their own. If it works for you, keep doing what you're doing.
Probably an eng lens would be better, there're a lot of ways to adapt them to the mirrorless cameras nowadays
Yeah, you get some really great shots from the field, but unfortunately, I would get too many complaints from missing plays or not being able to see them very well because there was 20 people in the shot. if I was filming for me personally, that's a different story, but unfortunately, I can't afford it at this time. Love your work, though!!
Ur Comment literally made zero sense
@superemesean5907 zero sense, huh lol I see all y'all's footage from down on the field, shooting at f1.8 lol losing focus constantly and looks like a 2-year-old is handling the camera lol. Players coaches family members all pay me for their play. Here's a play with half the team in the way LOL
why cant KZread just upload it at 120fps, and then you can watch it on 120hz display and have zero dropped frames?
Even if KZread played it at 120fps, your tv and/or your phone would not. Frame rate and tv refresh rate are two different things.
No point using a gimbal if you’re not shooting wide and slowing it down. Just shoot wide and stabe/crop in post?
You can always get away with doing it in post but it always looks more natural when it's done in camera. Plus, doing it in post implies that you will crop 4K footage in a 1080p sequence. I personally like to edit and export in 4K since my videos go to KZread.
Do these cameras and lenses do slow motion well?
Yes! All of them can do slow motion at 60fps and most of them can even do 120fps.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Awsome! Thank you! I just teamed up with a hockey team and I am a newbie so I appreciate you and binge watching ALLL your videos!
Thank you sir!
Which camera u used? Quality is great
Thanks, I film with a Sony FX3.
As a tool for analysis, great, see player positions game play etc, try watching a game as a spectator and unless the action is right in front of you forget it. I film and stream local games for a couple of clubs and they all bought one two years ago, I was told we won't be needing your services from now on, guess what I'm still there.
Subscription prices are way too high for family streaming. But thank you for the video. great job. first time watcher
OMG those prices,For subscribers !!! Just upload it to KZread via streaming. That is crazy numbers to use your own camera that you purchased.. NO THANKS FYI most sports leagues gives you real and better analytics
just wondering if you have done a video for easy basic video setup just for filming my kids basketball games for coaching and feedback purposes? are things like xbot worth it, or just a parent with a tripod with handle still best option?
I don't know Xbot but a person handling a real camera is always better than an automated setup with some type of AI camera. I don't really make videos for coaching purposes but I made this one about basketball videography kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4mVrcRqmqjWo8o.html
Hey man quick question… the only camera I have right now is the Sony A7iv paid with the 16-35 pz f4… do you think that would be enough? I don’t have the budget to get anything else right now but I’m looking to get into sports filming… thanks in advance
You’ll only be able to get wide shots with a maximum zoom of 35mm unless the action is right in front of you. Quality-wise though it’s all good.
@@BeyondTheGame_E thank a mil for the advice, so I definitely am going to need to invest in a longer focal length. Keep doing what you are doing, you are inspiring us out here 😎
The difference between the DX(A6700) and the FX camera is the not only in the body, but also FX lenses are roughly doubled that of DX, and they are also bigger and heavier. For being unobtrusive is important.
What do you mean by FX lenses? These cameras can both use the same lenses. If anything, there’s more variety to pick from with the FX30 since it is an aps-c camera.
Hey E - would you ever consider upgrading to an FX6?
Not really. I’m quite happy with what I have.
Was the camera tracking the ball when they were shooting hoops by itself? Awesome video btw
No. The camera autofocus can track faces but not balls.
This was so informative and just the mindset we needed. Thank you 👏
