    Great video! I know I'm late to the game I just discovered you and subscribed, but I'd love to hear you compare in a video or comment here this Kent versus Mongoose Ledge X1 and X2. Thanks!!!

  • @AdrenalineIsLife

    @AdrenalineIsLife

    @EJ glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not a fan of full suspension bikes from department stores. The Ledge is loaded with questionable parts, and there are more potential problems that can happen with a full suspension. The Trouvaille is simpler design with a better fork and drivetrain. It will be less maintenance. I'm sure the ledge is fine for light trail use, but I personally wouldn't trust the bike on the trails I ride. Hope that helps.

    @EJ the Axum has a more traditional geometry, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. You get a dropper post, which is a plus. The fork is a mystery fork but has a lockout. I've never ridden one, so I can't speak to how it rides.

    Great job on the video and review! I never thought your voiceover was lacking, but it's my first video of yours that I watched. I would love to see more about what you'd do to the Trouvaille. I took one on a real ride and was very impressed with it after the fact, just really struggled to brake on a 1500 ft straight down descent. The brakes hurt. I'm already working on some MT-200s for it and thinking it might be a real XC/light trail winner. The rest of the bike held up really well, including tires, wheels, fork, and drivetrain. I never dropped the chain. I already replaced the seat post with a 27.2mm and shim, but I agree with your video that it's better just to keep the QR seat after really feeling the 100mm travel. Also, after seeing Seth's video I'm concerned about it's BB and perhaps if it would be a money pit with parts that don't last, but we will see. I hope you keep it and do some budget-specific upgrades! It's fun to see what it can do!

    Thanks and welcome to the channel! I have some high hopes for the bike. I definitely have some concerns about some of the small parts on the bike. Like the brakes, stem and the BB. The BB is a cheap fix. The brakes must go. Even if they're replaced with better mechanical calipers. Mt200s are a good choice for power to dollar ratio. It would make a good option for someone on a budget for sure.

    I'm middle-aged, outta shape and recently decided to get back into mountain biking on the cheap. First I got the Schwinn Taff, then Northrock xc27, then returned em both for a Trouvaille, being the best new entry level value with modern specs, upgrade potential, and med frame. The Kent had the most issues with assembly, lose bolts, over tightened hubs, chain routed wrong through the derailleur, slag metal in the seat tube that had to be chiseled out, and the rear brake caliper or frame support not machined exactly perpendicular to the rotor. That meant that I couldn't get the brake caliper aligned perfectly. The northrock had tektro mechanical disc brakes that were smooth and strong, but the Kent's brakes were total crap with little stopping power - almost worse than old rim brakes even. Due to a crazy heat wave, I haven't even taken it on real MTB trails, but just riding around the neighborhood, it's clear that it could use a brake upgrade. All the reddit reviews and YT videos were adamant about quality control and assembly issues, so check everything carefully or have a real bike shop give it a tune up before hitting the trails.

    @@lambertj.2892 It is a nice bike for the money, however, the Kent has a more modern 1-by drive train, slack geometry, tapered head tube, slightly better fork, and 29" wheels. That makes the Kent an overall more up-to-date tech MTB with better upgradability for the same price. The Northrock did have better quality and stronger brakes out of the box.

    Hey brother! Informative video, although I'm not extremely knowledgeable about bikes so I don't necessarily understand the importance of some of the things you discussed. If I can give a brief explanation of my situation? So I'm 35 and good health all of my life until some very unexpected and out of the blue heart trouble that nearly took my life, put me on life support for a week, and in the end I survived but was left with a pacemaker/defibrillator permanently in my chest and unable to work or do much of anything too physical. A few months ago my doctor cleared me to do light exercise. Biking over everything is the one thing I can do while comfortably controlling and monitoring my heart rate. So I began biking and worked from doing 2 miles a day to up to 15-20 miles per day and it also helped me lose the 40lbs I'd gained by not being able to do much. I was riding a cheap Walmart bike that essentially fell apart piece by piece and is completely un-ridable with the back axle and gears being bent and several other issues. I can no longer ride and it's driving me nuts. I need a bike but have no idea what to get. I live in a fairly small town with no bike store and the bike in this video as well as the green Kent you mentioned in this video that is horrible are the only two 29" bikes my local Walmart sells. I'm 6'2" so I need at least 29" I think. I'm sorry for the long winded comment, but is this a bike worth buying or what would you suggest? If I'm being honest, even $400 is expensive to me right now but with how you talk in the video that seems like it's cheap for bikes. Is there something less expensive that's better? Or something comparable in price that is a better bike? I'm sorry for all of the questions. I just really miss riding and it's only been 10 days since my bike finally broke completely and I've been googling and trying to do research but I feel like I'm in the weeds and it's hard to find what is truly the best bang for your buck. Also, I was riding some trails but also some rural backroads on pavement if that makes a difference with the bike. I was previously riding a Walmart 29" Genesis BTB 15. Aluminum frame with Shimano pad brakes and the tires said Vitesse. Fairly inexpensive bike which is probably why it began falling apart after about 1000 miles

    @@AdrenalineIsLife still brakeless on the front and I have the rears as dialed as they’re going to get and they’re far from my comfort level for trails. But I think I’m going to slap a set of shimano MT200s on and those should make a world of difference. Going to throw a new stem on, new pedals and then take it on the trail and see how it performs compared to my Trek hard tail

    Seen a few videos...why is the kickstand an issue?

    On any type of offroad bike, a kickstand can be dangerous. It can flip downward and catch on the ground when riding bumpy terrain.

    It has a short seat tube, but It will feel a bit big overall. 29ers are hard to fit for shorter riders. If you can throw a leg over one at Wal-Mart, you'll know for sure. Everyone is proportioned differently.
