@@GKSports112 I have the same problem since I got my new shoes. I suppose it's just a question of adaptation so I'm running far less now than before and will increase the mileage again as soon as the pain stops. No idea if that's the right way to go tho :D

Long downhills are a great opportunity for competiting against runners who are marginally faster than you on road - make the most of downhills

I've been running techy steep alpine tracks for many years and it takes a long while to feel comfortable bombing downhills. A bit like mtb and skiing speed is your friend and allows you to iron out rocks and roots. Practice is key in order to gain confidence. But once you can run fast down treacherous terrain you feel invincible !!

Yes one of the pleasures of hill running is the adrenaline rush that come from fast descents down steep technical hills - it is a bit like skiing - to get the most of it, you need to push the boundary !!

I run 24km in my long run -+600m up hill that is fine, the only “problem” is the down hill part. Sometimes I did it no stop and others I walk in the downs to take the pressure in the knee/body. Thanks for the advice 😉

Summer Fan Dance race coming up....Over Pen y Fan and back again. A little bit more than a half with 1150m to ascend and descend. Just to make things more interesting, it's run in boots and trousers with a mandatory pack weight which with added food and water will be around 15 kg for me in the veteran class. The youngsters get to carry more. It really is the descents that hurt most. That shock load on the quads is a killer. The first descent is not too bad, but the second time...

Our local Marathon is, due to its tunnel, one of my biggest fears. Living in northern Germany, there aren't any hills, where you can easily train a distance of 800m at 6-10% decline and incline, which the marathon has, especially with the second time crossing it, being just 7k away from the finish. But at least at the bottom of the tunnel is a massive party, so I got that going for me 😂

Even many trail/hill runners dont see downhills as an opportunity for them to gain an advantage over other runners who are about the same ability level as them or a bit faster than them on flat trail or flat road sections of races.

I'd prefer the title referring to running fast Downhill. this is, of course, correct, to run down fast, but its not always sensible to run Downhill like this

  • @jamiefuhrman403

When can we expect the uphill video? Thanks!! I've read you want to try to maintain a constant speed throughout hills, which would mean working relatively harder on the uphills and easier on the downhills. What are your thoughts? Interesting to hear you suggest practicing running faster downhill. What about walking uphills?

  • @ZachTheExcitedViper

Run with power meter (stryd foot pod, or Polar/Coros has built in). On the uphills, stick to your power or FTP). If you cycle, its the exact same idea and helps keep your effort in check in a quantifiable way.
