You're right. In trying to create a barrel that accomodates both directions, they reduced its effectiveness. The old barrels work much better in grabbing and holding on to the hair.

Hy Julissa You look beautiful like always. I prefer the old attachment. I feel that the old attachment grabs the hair much better than the New one. The final result looks so good and i love the volume. I know you mentioned you Miss your long hair, but girl you are rocking the short hair . I see the comments below about the new one not working correctly, that makes sense. However the tool doesn't work half as well on dry hair vs. damp hair.

I have long thick hair and tried it on the dry hair. It worked fine for me.

Can you try both attachments again with your hair shower wet. Maybe do half your head with the original attachment and the other half with the new attachment. Just wanna see how that goes. But I agree that 20mm barrel attachment is the best, makes the curls last the longest since the curls come out defined

I have just bought the new technology long barrals 20 mm and 30 mm. and I have the same result as Julissa with the old technology long barrel 20 mm. and I also have the first model air wrap. However, the new technology barrel 30 mm works just fine.

Wow Julissa. Watching this was a stressful experience. Imagine having to go through that for every strand of hair! I was gonna pay extra to get this small barrel attachment when I get my Dyson airwrap. No thank you! You really saved me. Thank you :)

May you try and review the shark flexstyle. My curls don’t last with dyson no matter what I do

I didn’t buy the first version… I love the new one!

If you point a flashlight into the barrel, you can see that there are little flaps that move when you twist the top in the new barrels. I think the flaps don't create as good of a Coanda effect as the single airflow barrels, which is that's why the new barrels aren't as good as sucking up hair.

That’s exactly what I think! 😱 Since the new Dyson curling barrels curl to both directions, I feel like the coanda effect isn’t as powerful as the old one, which just focuses on curling to one direction.

been trying to buy the 20 mm long barrels for ages now, they are always sold out :(

So you start using the wand and curl it with your hair straighten?!? I watched their dyson video and they advised to start with dampish hair but those women had straight hair - does the curl stay after using the wands? I have to test mine out more. I have 3a-3b curls.

I feel like there is a problem with how the barrel is changing directions. To me that looks like what happens when you try and use the wrong direction barrel. So maybe it isn't clicked around enough so the airflow isn't working properly. Maybe it is faulty (I see someone below says that there is a problem with the size barrel). I haven't seen anyone else having that issue with the new barrels though. Maybe give it a few good turns to change direction and see if that helps.

I got the whole new dyason and it works better than my old one however I do find the base more powerful on the new one even tho supposedly they did not re-engineer it

I actually called to ask this question and was told the actual dryer is the same. What changed is the attachments. 👍🏼

I understand they increased the airflow slightly from 13 liters per second to 13.5 liters per second on the new one.

I ordered the 1.2” new barrel. I’m going to try it and see if i get the same issue as you

I think the problem with new one not grabbing hair properly is because of the base as they have updated the base also of the newer airwrap and it is more powerful so i think the new attachment will work better with new base.

I wouldn't HAVE one of these things! It's a big loser as far as I'm concerned. And it should be priced at $49.99 at the most!
