New Dyson Airwrap… Is it better?

New and improved Dyson Airwrap Styler
Dyson recently launched their re-engineered Dyson Airwrap Styler with new attachments for $50 more than the original one. The original Dyson Airwrap is currently not for sale anymore, but you will be able to purchase the newest re-engineered attachments hopefully soon for your original styler. So what did Dyson improve and why is it more expensive.
Dyson Improvements:
1. The biggest difference or change are the new barrels to curl/wave your hair. Instead of having a right and a left for each size, you now have one barrel with a dial at the top to switch from right to left hair curling direction. Genius! Why couldn’t that do that from the beginning. There are 3 barrel sizes now:
a. .08 inch, long and short version of a barrel
b. 1.2 inch, long and short version of a barrel
c. 1.6 inch, short and long version of hair curling barrel.
2. New Dyson Hair Dryer attachment 2x:
a. smoothing/drying in one attachment,
b. wide tooth comb attachmnet
3. New Dyson Airwrap has more power.
4. Coanda Effect is stronger - as part of their re-design Dyson has improved on making coanda effect work better. We have tested it against all other tools, including Shark flexstyle, and nothing works as good as the new Dyson curling barrels.
5. More attachments with more versatility. Many attachments have being consolidated into one attachment, which work even better than the separate attachments.
6. All dyson attachments are backward compatible. This is a very important point because you can buy new attachments and use them with the old Dyson base. We have tested all of them and they all work on older dyson version.
I’m going to keep playing with the new attachments and see if there is a major difference and if it’s worth purchasing them.

As a hair stylist, I wonder if people know that women everywhere are paying like $50 to get their hair blown out at the salon twice a week lol. This product was marketed for those people. Not everything in life is affordable and that's okay.

I am terrible at doing my own hair with any tool let alone good ones. The biggest benefit of the Dyson Airwap for me has been increasing the overall health of my hair since the device doesn't get as hot. My results are OK but the health benefit is worth it to me. Also, more skilled hair people probably could make the product work better. I just suck at hair and it is crazy hot and humid where I live.

What I really wish for as a curly haired girl is that they made a difuser attachement. Sometimes I just want to leave my hair naturally curly and that would be a big help. It is the only thing that it is really missing. I do not mind that I have to change barrels, I wish she would have compared with the longer barel version on the original one. I am sure there would not be much difference between sides.

Great video. I have a cautionary tale. I bought one of the early ones about 2.5 years ago. It had the longer barrels, but needed switching, and did not have the smoothing attachment. Loved it so much I bought a second one last year for our vacation home. Be warned. There are many ways to purchase, direct from Dyson or through 3rd party vendors. When I wanted the second one in December of 2021, it was an impossible get. No one carried any. People were selling used ones for more than new due to Covid supply chain shortages. In January of 2022 I finally found an online seller who had 3 in stock. I purchased one and waited for 2 weeks to receive it. When it arrived I compared it to the one I got as a gift December of 2020. It was identical. Down to the manual and the serial number locations. The quality did not seem as good though. I chalked it up to the whole Covid thing. After a month the round brush became unattached from it's collar. I conducted a home repair with heat resistant epoxy. I also noticed that the the tools did not sit as firmly. By month two the on off switch was getting temperamental, but it ultimately would work. Month 3 I got super annoyed one morning when no matter how many times I tried to turn it on, it just didn't work (I knew the filter was clean.) I called Dyson and spoke with a very helpful woman. She asked if my GFI button was tripped. I told her that my bathroom plug was fine, and interestingly enough, the New dryer did not have a red trip switch on the plug. YIKES! She said she suspected it was a COUNTERFIT DRYER!!! I took it to my local service center and they confirmed it. Let me point out that they had one in it's box sitting in the showroom and the only way you could tell from the physical appearance was that the filter was a very slightly different shade of gray. I am a detail person, but it was so subtle it could be chalked up to manufacturing run differences. But there were other quality differences that should have maybe alerted me. After the fact, the biggest difference was that the motor ran at a different pitch and did not have the same power. In the end (after 3 months) I got the refund from Visa - hey, protection is one of the reasons you use a credit card! But it was a long fight and I had to stay on it. Dyson confiscated the dryer, but gave me a letter confirming fraud. I ordered the new model and it is, in fact, better than the old one. The airflow switch is brilliant engineering, but I agree that they should have offered it initially. It also shouldn't be more expensive because that send two less attachments! I have very long straight hair, so the smoothing attachment is worthless, but I can get some beautiful waves in my hair in half the time! It's like a fancy curling iron that is burn proof!. I love my Dyson and if you style your own hair it's definitely worth it. A month and a half of weekly blowouts. I say it's worth it.

I’m glad I waited to buy the new one. In the interim, I’ve had the Supersonic & Corrale flat iron. I have 3c curls, so I’m anxious to see how I like it. I got the long, opposed to waiting for the one recommended for curls & coils because my hair is long. I didn’t want those short barrels. When the attachments come out for it, maybe I’ll get the comb from that one.

The barrels looks a lot better in the new one. But as a 2c/3a curly girl, very prone to frizz, I am unsure if the new pre-styler would work as well in my hair. I like to wear my curls natural, and I love the original one - it gives volume and shine, keep my curls their original shape, and take away a lot of frizz. It seems like the new one is more targeted towards when you want to straighten your hair, or people with naturally straight hair. :) I will not be running to get the new one, but maybe I will buy the new barrels at some point, if I feel like playing with that style more.

How did the new Dyson work out for you? There’s a lot of ppl online saying the new Dyson barrels don’t produce as big/stronger curls -versus the original Dyson barrels. Apparently the reason is the new Dyson barrels are more cavernous (inside), whereas the original Dyson’s barrels are a lot less cavernous (which traps the heated air in a smaller area (inside the barrel), and therefore the curls are better/last longer.

I've never minded that I have to change the barrels for each direction. I find it gives the barrels a chance to cool down. The brush I would have liked to see some work on is the round brush. That is the only one I am not super happy with.

Me too Julia….the round brush is scratchy on the ends and I lose A LOT of hairs in it. The round brush seems to break individual hairs easily. I can never get a SMOOTH finish using the round brush either…..loads of fly away hairs!! Dyson should have improved the round brush. Teddy U.K. xx

@@Teddibere1 Hi Teddy and Everyone else commenting on the round brush, I have the Airwrap which I have used once since I bought the T3 with a paddle and Round brush attachment - the round brush is AWESOME in terms of a smooth, sleek blowout! It won’t give you sky high volume but it will be nice and full and above all shiny, sleek and FRIZZ FREE!! And it’s $189.00 vs $600 and I didn’t use the barrels anyway. I am anxiously waiting for T3 to come out with an Oval brush attachment which would make it completely Perfect!! Just wanted to give you some comparison from someone who has both the Dyson and T3 and owns about a MILLION round brushes 😂😂 always in search of THE ONE!! And I completely agree about the Dyson round brush attachment which felt cheap (from a $600 dryer NOT a pleasant discovery!) and RIPPED hair out of my head no matter how gently I tried not to pull so for me it was a No Go.

I think that the price of the Dyson products can only be justified if you use it constantly, every day or a couple of times a week. Then it is worth dividing this price by "one use", for example, there are 365 days in a year, and if you use the product for 300 days, then the price per use per day will be - 2 dollars, which is not so much. Moreover, this is a long-term purchase that will last for many years. The styler will pay for itself in less than a year.
