Honda uses some of the highest grade materials in the construction of their vehicles. This is especially true in the steel they use in their cars. They seem to hold up very well because of the overall body strength.

Also fun fact in my opinion the new sled more closely replicates a 4,200 lb truck like the F150. Particularly the updated barrier has internal frame rails that mimic that of the F150. This is why a lot of the cars in this new test are getting pierced on their door center lines and causing less force on the B pillar. This is why some of the cars are getting lower b pillar intrusions despite higher mass and higher speed as compared to the standard side crash test-simulated frame rails or “hard points” built inside the new barrier. These hard points mimic the F150 frame rails

Also in some ways the old barrier is harder on a car’s structure. If the old structure was ran at the higher speed and weight of the new sled, there’d be some catastrophic results for a cars structure. Overall the new test is more realistic. So it’s welcome
