A Ferrari is always a Ferrari dude. the brand and the turning heads says it all. If you are driving a black color(which is un-noticable in crowd!) Ferrari Cal-T and Mclaren 570-GT, am pretty sure every one will turn their head towards the Ferrari not this one..!

They only buy it because Ferrari make you buy that if you want to buy any of their other cars

Every car McLaren makes uses the same flat plane 3.8 litre V8 , so tuning is the only difference between this and the 675LT's engine is , this more conservative tune is likely to be ten times more reliable to own at over 100 hp difference .

Not true, while it is the same block, the components are vastly different.The 540c and 570s have a different tune between them, but between the Sport/Super and Hyper series, they are different :).

Berry Chris The engine may have stiffer valve springs a more aggressive cam profile and a few other doo dads but , the engine is the same . all you need to change is the intake and exhaust and you will see huge differences in the same engine .

It's not exactly that but you are right, this engine is much less stressed and will be more reliable. I can tell you after driving one that it is shockingly fast and can do more than any mere driver can on a public road. If it's also reliable, then it's a clear win.

+jerry henderson The turbos Change, that's the biggest difference. The pistons rating changes as well, you could never get 650S power out of a 540C with just a tune without blowing the turbos

This guy from McLaren was one of the most honest and open car brand reps I've seen in a while. Makes the brand much more appealing :)

A prediction: Mclaren 570 GT* or Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2. One of those two is gonna be your next car.

I like the 540,its meant to be gear shorter, so you can actually get out of 3rd. Or at least need to play with the gears a bit more, meaning for daily use it 'should' be a little more engaging. And how the hell [normal folk] in the real world can actually tell the difference.

Question Paul,, before you test drove the Mercedes the Aston etc and if you drove the 540 C would you have considered buying one even though out of the three cars you said you prefer the 570gt even though it hadn't been made yet?

IDC whether McLarens are fast enough or not they are some of the best looking cars there are

The design of the 570 and 540 looks so much better than the 675 and 650 especially the rear part!

Mate, I rip my 1.25 Fiesta to shit and think that's fast, I can't imagine what it's like to drive these type of cars! Time to work hard and make it happen!

Even if you go on McLaren's website there is very little about the 540c. PS Paul, how about more camera angles? Just one pointing at you doesn't give us the experience of you driving it. How about a forward facing in the centre and a camera on the outside, maybe with external mic to give us sound from outside?

I don't get it, even the mclaren guy says that these cars are closely matched to drive. So unless this is a marketing experiment to maximise profit, I really don't see the point of this range. Not hating just hoping somebody can explain.

McLaren need to sack their marketing team altogether, they just have no clue. Everytime they release a car they introduce a new and improved one a few months later at basically the same price. This not only causes previous models to depteciate like hell but also causes uncertainty amongst buyers which may divert sales to another company.

Well said. If I could afford it I would never ever buy a McLaren 'cose total lack of exclusivity .. Would go for the last V8 Ferrari that I know would last for the next 7 or 8 years ..

before i moved onto my 675LT i had the 540c and its honestly a pleasure to drive, especially for the price

even just watching the video I can tell the 570Gt has a lot more refinement than the 540c. Much less road noise and easier to drive. Love the glass house roof.

I wonder if a roof like that would go over well in California. It's always sunny here and might get a bit hot at times. Maybe a lot.

Or if your budget is somewhat like the price of your AMG GT and falls a little short for the newest McLarens(with options), MP4-12C is like at 120K, very near to the price tag of your AMG had. And having 600 something horsepower and being A LOT lighter than AMG, it must be ridiculously fast and quick.

I think for the money I would choose a 540c over any other.

Drove the 570GT the other day. Powerful engine but the overall chassis is way to weak for that power-train. The front axle grip is bad and at speed the car starts to move around a lot, especially during heavy breaking. Perhaps the worst thing about it, is just how small the interior is. On the upside, the gearbox i phenomenal. As a direct competitor to the Turbo S, my choice is very easy. 911 any day.

Please steal a 570GT for Sam

Talking about tuning this engine, Matt Farah of the smoking tyre recently drove a stock block and turbo 12c that had 837 bhp. it's ridiculous.

It's deffo getting complicated with all the different models.I could afford them all (almost).but i'm rough and ready think a540c would be just fine for me as a daily.

What about the new 688HS with its fixed rear spoiler, roof scoop, front spoiler vents and air vents on top of the front wings. Looks like a gt track car!

You should get the 570GT or maybe a used 650S. That'd be awesome.

540C is just a de-tuned version of the 570S.

Actually,the MP4-12C would be the cheapest Mclaren since it's not in production anymore and prices are dropping.

you can easily tune the engine of a 540c to over 600 bhp and 650 NM. so if it's to slow.....

Do a run with and with out your ECU map....would be interesting to see both the race between the AMG and 540c as well as the acceleration difference the Renntech tune makes to the GTS. Okay, I know this is Nerdy but.... The 540c has 282W/kg and the Renntech 625BHP AMG GTS has 278W/kg....... That is about as close as it gets mate :) DO IT! lol
