Water damage would be a flood or water flowing up conduits! Not typical exposure.

SMA is the oldest one - founded in Hannover , Germany. Growatt is now following big times starting with the 10 years warranty. The warranty can be extended here too but it makes not that much sense cause SMA lasts without issues here. Growatt is too cheap to need it. 1200$ for a 10 kW inverter.

So what do you think of SolaX inverters and batteries? I know they are not very common here in the US and I wish they were produced here in the USA but price was a big concern when putting up a 12kw system with battery backup! Thank you and always look forward to seeing you. 🥰🥰🥰

Great topic since most warranties include a lot of small print. Great job noticing the water exclusion in Enphase's warranty. I signed a contract almost 2 weeks ago and I noticed that it doesn't include if the system will use an inverter with power optimizers or microinverters. I called the company yesterday and the representative told me to log onto my app to see even after I said the system hasn't been installed yet. I have a feeling it's going to be SolarEdge, which a lot of comments on Reddit give me the impression their products have a high failure rate. A good warranty is nice, but I don't want headaches from having a failed component that can cause the system to not produce any energy if it's the central inverter.

I am flying to California next week to an international solar convention and will be talking to Enphase in person. I will make sure to ask about it for sure!

In your experience what are the failure rates of the three inverters? I’ve mostly done Enphase but have replaced less than 10 in over a 7 year period and never had a combiner box fail. On the other hand, SolarEdge inverters still fail way too high to consider using them as my main product. SMA’s are a bit more solid but I don’t see them being used for residential use cases much anymore. My experience is mostly in CA

Take a look at the new Sunny Boy Smart Energy residential hybrid inverter from SMA. A new residential string inverter with the standard SMA solid warranty and the ability to upgrade to battery backup!

I live in Nor Cal. Did lots of research and decided on SMA. Dont have shade issues and its a less complicated install and easier to replace then MI's on the roof. And SMA solution was a couple thousand dollars less. Also, with my 455w panels I know output will never be clipped, unlike Enphase. The SMA inverters being released are impressive. My only, literally only SMA concern is being around in 10+ years in the US residential markets given the Chinese inverters global market share. That being said, SMA inverters are far superior to all of them in terms of MPPT, reliability and support. And to be fair, Enphase is primarily a US thing/good marketing. fwiw - I'd avoid SE.

Thank you for your videos. I am really learning a lot. A question regarding Solar Insure. My potential installer is selling my system with included SolarInsure. If they are real and valid it seems like they would supersede the manufacturer warranty. Is it too good to be true?

MY personal opinion on the solarinsure, its more of a sales gimmick, that some installers use to be more lucrative as a company. At the end of the day, it will protect you if the installer goes out of business. Your products will be under manufacturer warranty no matter what, so all that will give you is labor coverage, if needed... I am not too into those but most installers that offer that option, cant sell a system without it. I interviewed SolarInsure myself and if I wanted to offer it to my clients i would have to sell it on every job :( WHich is what I didn't like. Are you comfortable with your installer? If so, that is all that matters, if they have good reputation, good reviews. At least 4-6 years of being in business.

@@solartimeusa Thank you for the response. It seems like the Solar Installation genre is a mix of excellent companies and others that are either relatively new or going to be a flash in the pan. So, to me, if SolarInsure is a real and viable service, it may add a little protection.

Hi Martyna - Love, love, love this video. Thanks for making it. Couple questions, how do I go about finding an honest and transparent solar company like yours doing business in the Denver metro? Also while doing my research Enphase and Solar Edge like Tesla solar seem like household brand names but I didn’t know SMA existed until I found your videos. Why is that? Sounds like you have SMA in your home which says allot so I’d like to learn allot more about them. Thanks again for your videos.

Hey there! thank you so very much for the kind words. SMA is a German brand with worldwide presence, but they are not as good at marketing as enphase or SolarEdge for sure haha! Surprisingly in the rest of the world enphase is minimal brand whereas Fronius, and sma rock. MY suggestion is always listen to your guts! interview multiple companies, dont have anyone force you to sign anything! Research reviews and also ask for references of older customers. At the end of the day even if you go with enphase ( as a good product) if your installer is solid, and have been in business for 4+ years, you should be okay. :) I just prefer string for the simplicity of them. I do have sma in my home. I almost feel like i need to help them with their marketing :D Any questions, let me know! I am here to help, Martyna

@@sbrown02 Enphase owns the USA market, if the failure rate is high then people usually willnot buy them or will sue the company in USA for their lies or for higher failure rates. It's not that easy to have more than 60% of the market share in USA.

What about Deye inverters? Can you look at them and their warranty? Thanks Martyna. 🙂

Deye supposedly makes one of the more popular hybrid inverters in USA market, Sol-Ark. I actually like them a lot. Very easy and reliable. I will definitely look into reviewing their warranties!

do you have history with solis inverters? I am tring to find a replacement for fronius leaving the market. thanks.

Great information and I'm dealing with a IQ8+ inverter issue right now 🙄 and Enphase says 12 business days for RMA approval and then they ship the replacement to me.. And my installer filed bankruptcy recently sooooooo

So you have to pay for another installer thats the kicker of the scam. Yes they will rape you, so in essence if the product goes bad you still have to pay I have had so many inverters changed out and the labor has costed me more than the inverters.

@solartimeusa hello and yes they sent me a replacement IQ8+ and I installed it myself and enphase did the rest through the app and working at 100% again 😀

Looks like it is cheaper to buy new than use the warranty. Enphase trying to keep me under the installer who wants $400 to replace a burned out iq7a that is "under warranty".. what?

Christmas light effect is still somewhat true if your installer parallels strings on roof. Tesla!

Definitely plan to! Growatt is a pretty big worldwide producer of inverters so they definitely know what they are doing! But yes I do want to test them for sure! Martyna

Thanks so much for replying and the new video. Video suggestion: considering how the solar / battery systems integrate with home automation or other systems. To me this is where it really becomes amazing. Eg in summer in the morning your battery charges in the first couple of hours, then your system turns on your air conditioner to cool the house while you have free extra production available or maybe turns on a pool pump. When you arrive home the house should be cooler and reduce the air conditioning load needed in the evening. This applies in winter in reverse. Ie run the electric heating during the day. One of the big problems is, many solar systems don’t seem to integrate well or easily with other systems, which is why people aren’t doing this much yet. But this is where the real savings and benefits come from.
