    Yes to LFP battries. No to anything made by enphase. No to combo battery/inverter units (I live in an area where I will need more battery than inverter.) No to anything that requires the cloud, or has a closed software ecosystem.

    I've been considering the EG4 server rack batteries. You can get 6 batteries plus the server rack for just over $10K. This gives you a battery bank of 30.72 kWh or $330 per kWh. Combine this with the Sol-Ark 15K you mentioned or EG4's 18KPV inverter and it would seem you'd be better off than the other options you presented.

    I looked at the EG4's last year. The problem was at the time they where not UL9540A certified and you couldn't pass permitting where I lived in CA without having a battery certified for UL9540A. I went with a different company that had a product that was UL9540A certified. I can see now they have gotten UL9540A certification for there system which should make it easier to pass inspection in more areas of the US. However even then, the EG4 battery is kind of a self-install system and most people are probably not comfortable with that.

    I have a Schneider 6848 XW Pro hybrid inverter and MPPT 100/600. That system is great. I wonder why so few independent reviewers talks about the Schneider's home solutions ?? I have paired it with Tigo's optimisers on my PV's. For now my battery bank consist of two cheap Amperetime (now LiTime) 48v 90Ah batteries. I will change these batteries with communication enable BMS's compatible with the Schneider's XW pro eventually. But, yeah, why is there so few Schneider's solar related products reviews? • @solartimeusa

    @solartimeusa

    6 ай бұрын

    Thank you for leaving a comment. MY preference to Tigo over SolarEdge is the fact that Tigo is agnostic and they are not required to be present for the panel to work. So lets say if in 10 years Solaredge is out of business, and one of your solaredge optimizers breaks down, if you take it off the panel, it will not work. In contrast if your tigo optimizer stops working, and there is no replacement available, you simply remove it from the panel and reconnect the panel to the string. It wont be optimized but the panel will continue working. Does that make sense? Also with solaredge YOU HAVE TO USE OPTIMIZERS. And for example on a ground mount system if they are not needed, you still have to put them if you're using solaredge. Hope this helps!

    Hoymiles also has a Hybrid family of inverters. I'm installing one right now. At the end of the month, they will have a 10.2kWh LFP battery that is paired with their inverter for UL approval, and to meet CEC 2020, and NEC 2023 requirements! Now, the MSRP for a 7.6kW Hybrid + 10.2kWh LFP battery + $5000 for installation will save customers about $2000 compared to Enphase or SolarEdge.

    I have to believe the DIY route with a friend who can help build the batteries and install stuff is going to be WAY WAY cheaper and easier to upgrade, plus with the new EVE and REPT batteries just hitting the market now, 320AH (330+ tested) at about $125 per cell, you can build some truly large LFP based batteries + EG4 or Victron charger/inverters for I would bet 1/3 to 1/4 the overall cost if you scale out to about 30Kw to 50Kw of storage. I have the EG4 3K + a 3.7Kw battery (DIY) for $1700. Granted I am not attaching it to whole house, but that wouldn't be too hard to do and with the latest EG4 and Victron stuff, you can add AC, solar and generator options for inputs with fast switch overs, plus additional batteries pretty fast. I know this video is more about the "all in one home battery connected to grid/solar/whole house" which is part of the higher cost of the initial setup, but the pricing to me is absurd how much they charge given the 1/3 to 1/4 the price it would cost to do it yourself.

What I really liked about the system was the DC coupled arrangement and 200% DC oversizing with SolarEdge Hub Inverters. It create the ability to charge off of "clipped" power and use the energy to maximize self consumption at night. Solar industry is definitely going through a down time in the " Solar-coaster", it will be a rougher time for all installers but also rough for manufacturers since the demand is lower. I am very curious to see how they work through that storm. Personally I would not put in in my home at least for another 2 years, specifically due to the economy state now.

One inverter supports up to 5 batteries (6kw x 5 = 30kw) per, with the ability to expand the inverters up to three is the bomb! One can start small and add modules as money and/or needs increase. A move possibly in your future? Easy to deinstall and is transportable... Take 'em with you!

    The amount of current needed to charge a battery bank that size is too much for the 6000xp. It would likely take a week or more of solar output to charge it. You could get the smaller inverter to charge just 1 powerpro. 100 amps charge rate at 48 volts is 4.8 kilowatts so really need a 5kw or higher system to produce the 100amps for charging. That is where the 6000xp shines.

To me it makes zero sense to me to invest huge money in a system and still be powerless when the grid goes down. Hybrid is the way to go that leaves all options open without hardware changes. This way even without investing batteries I can still have power in the day when the grid is down. Much more beneficial than a direct grid tied system, especially when hybrid cost the same if not less, and like you pointed out in another video, your most likely to fail components are not up on your roof where you cant easily tend to them. EG-4 48V 100Ah LFP server rack batteries (5120 Wh each) are selling for around $1400-$1500 each at Signature Solar, so cost per KWh is around $280, a good deal in my opinion. Your 200KWh system battery cost would be around $56,000, a lot of money, and you would probably need maybe three EG-4 18K hybrid (12KW AC output each) inverters, running in parallel for 36KW of 240VAC power ($5,500 each x 3 = $16,500), and the full 18K of solar per unit, or 54KW of solar panels (around $30,000), which could charge your batteries fully in about 4 hours of full sun. This would be a big system (that may not fit on your roof) - costing $103K so far, plus wiring solar mounts, trenching, etc, could be done for $130,000 in total DIY. An installer might up the total cost to $200,000.

    On paper, the Franklin is terrific and MAY be my choice. My concern is the paper. Specifically, will they be in existence years into the future? Sungevity installed our solar system, declared bankruptcy, reorganized and eliminated all their previously obligations. A 12 year warranty means nothing if the company doesn't exist. The Grid and energy management is ever evolving and software needs constant updating to harness the changes. Franklin app is cloud based, what happens if the company goes belly-up?

  • @solartimeusa

    @solartimeusa

    That is a HUGE and FAIR point. That is what worries me the most too, and I'm unsure if you saw my String VS Mirco inverter video. The warranty means nothing if the company is not there, hence the system that is easiest ( least complicated, and least cloud-dependent) would be my choice. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zn-T05mhd6mypdI.html I have a very unpopular opinion.... :D I would say that having an AC-coupled battery in this case that is not from the same manufacturer as your solar inverter is not as bad as deciding on a hybrid from a new company that hasn't lived long enough. If you do go that route ( which is kinda what solark is or EG4 Hybrid) then if the company goes belly up, you're screwed all the way :D What would you decide on?

    @@solartimeusa Your string vs micro inverter perspective is spot one. (String inverters by a long shot.) I failed to mentioned that Sungevity did not map our panels/optimizers, so we have a major problem if/when they start to fail. There are so many things to consider when choosing a battery manufacturer, features, software, company longevity, compatibility with grid (virtual power plant), future proofing, etc. On first blush, Tesla seems the save bet - installation base, market dominance, software updates, financial strength, etc. They also are the 800 pound gorilla in the room and could easily decide to drop the business and swat customers like annoying insects. They just resumed selling batteries without solar panels again this year. Keep up with the honest and open presentations. Very much appreciated.

    And this highlights the problem with proprietary battery systems. It's impossible to expand a Tesla Powerwall 2 system using a Powerwall 3 system and then Tesla can just stop selling Powerwall 2 units. I much prefer a system built with components like 12V 120Ah batteries. You can add, remove, and replace components as needed. Much more viable long-term.

    @@solartimeusa For those who already have any kind of solar inverter, SolarEdge, Enphase, SMA, etc they can AC couple BYD LVL 15.2 (48V) battery with Victron Multiplus or Quattro. Yes, BYD does not have built in inverter like Tesla Powerwall or Sonnen but they work with Victron which is a top brand in this domain too. This is really the best setup for full home backup. Be careful with hybrid inverters, most are not capable for full home backup or permanent offgrid mode.

So overall profit from a battery job is probably closer to 1-2k, which is not very high considering a 10 year warranty. Hope that cleared it up.
