Should I get 3 enphase encharge 10t batteries or 2 franklin 13.5 KW battery. I have a 11KW SYSTEM WITH enphase micro inverter and REC 420 alpha pure

I would go for the new Enphase 5p battery - you can get a 20kwh or 25 kWh unit. That would give you more energy and backup than the 2 Franklins. Don’t buy the Enphase 10T - Franklin is better in that case.

Jon, you didn't mention that Solaredge optimizers can be fairly easily bypassed. That means, the panels can revert to basic DC output.

Isn't the Envoy considered the lighting strike expendable component protecting all the microinverters?

No the Envoy is a communication device that keeps track of the production of the solar panels and also connects to the internet and uploads that information into the Enphase monitoring portal called Enlighten.

How can you work in solar and not know about the High failure rate of SolarEdge inverters ? I've had to replace too many SolarEdge inverters to recommend them any longer. some homeowners have needed more than 2 inverter replacements in less than 5 years. When they work, Solaredge systems are great. Unfortunately, they are not reliable and tech support is not great.

Hello Marc, I am aware of the recent spate of failures in Solar Edge equipment. And you are unfortunately seeing them first hand. The failure numbers are still fairly low overall for me to advise cease and desist. I have been following both Enphase and Solar Edge for many years now and I have seen such cycles with both of them earlier. They usually course correct fairly quickly. But, if I don't see the expected corrections by mid 2024, I will recommend a thumbs down for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.

in the event of a power surge isn't a microinverter more susceptible to damage and more difficult to protect vs a single source inverter? is the optimizers equally susceptible to failure?

The microinverter is as susceptible to a power surge as a single inverter. That means during an event, the worst that can happen is a couple of micro's go bust - but the majority of your system will continue to work. But if that inverter goes, your entire system will fail. Optimizer based systems also work off a single inveter. They have the same issues as regular inverter based systems. However, optimzers do enhance system production. Hence my first choice is the Enphase systems followed by the Solar Edge Optimizer system and the string inveter based system at a distant third. Thanks for watching.

    How about enphases labor warranty

Both Enphase and Solar Edge have a super 25 year product warranty. Neither offers a Labor warranty.

@@MySolarHomeUSA no labor, no controller, needs internet…sounds like they want to minimize their risk over the next 25 years 🤔

@@Remotesteve2 Solar Edge and Enphase are among the more responsible vendors. Others only have 12-year warranties. Labor warranties are offered by the solar installer and not by product companies. That is standard practice as you need technicians to install and repair it and Service personnel are employed by installation companies. Both Solar Edge and Enphase are very customer-friendly - the best in the industry. Controllers are all incorporated into the hardware itself. The Envoy is just a glorified router to transfer information from the microinverters to a website online.

@@MySolarHomeUSA customer friendly until you’re paying out of pocket at year 11+ for labor to replace a microinverter on your roof. “25 year warranty” sounds misleading if you’re at the mercy of the standard 10 labor warranty most installers offer. Its almost as if Enphase is aware a decent amount of they’re microinverters wont last 25 years but minimize there risk by only covering parts among other exclusions. If SE vs Enphase is akin to bmw vs mercedes… sounds like tesla is toyota.

@@Remotesteve2 Enphase and SE cannot offer a Labor warranty since they don't have service technicians making visits all over the US. So I think it's not fair to blame them. They do their best by offering you a 25-year product warranty. What you are looking for is a Solar Installer who offers you longer labor warranties. I only work with partners who offer long labor warranties, in fact, one of my favorite solar install partners offers a 30-year Labor, Workmanship, and Roof Penetration warranty. Everything is covered soup to nuts for 30 years.
