Recently visited one popular toyota dealer in north west to put my name on the wait list. Because they don't charge any markups. But I just gave up after I heard there are 100+ people waiting. 😂 Finally ended up with getting a Venza hybrid. Because only 5-10 people were waiting on.

I have owned the new 2023 for the last few weeks. Has much more pickup than any previous versions. The car has a much smaller trunk. If you need to put a walker or wheelchair in the back, you must take down both back seats. You can’t change out any of the lights on the inside for aftermarket; they all use a circuit-style light. The dome and reading lights in front aren’t that bright. The car looks very sporty inside and out. If you are six feet or taller, watch your head getting in and out; the ceiling is cut significantly lower than in previous generations. The main car battery is back in the trunk, which is more accessible. The car has no spare tire, so if you buy one, you lose a lot more of your trunk. The vehicle makes a cool noise when driving slowly through parking lots, more of a head-turner for people. I do like the lock and unlock noise from the car; it’s new and sounds great. You can turn on your vehicle and off from an app. Car has built-in Wi-Fi from AT&T, not as fast as Verizon, but the connection has not been an issue as the connection is stable everywhere. Also, in the app, you can see the health of your car, see if your doors are unlocked, and lock them. I wish the app would let you roll windows up and down. The car is ultra quiet on roads and freeways. This is the fifth Prius I have owned; they have never broken down. I have never taken any of my Prius previously to a shop for any repairs and that’s with the cars having over 300k in miles. ~Chad James

Toyota had a disastrous 2022, but 2023 is a recovery year, and i suspect 2024 will be a very good year for Toyota. This is a very rational update the previously very ugly Prius. So much faster and better looking, this might be enough to reverse the steadily declining sales of the Prius, but at 42k this product is not competitive with the RAV4 Hybrid, which gets good enough gas mileage, but has probably double the versatility and interior volume. Toyota is effectively trapped by the RAV4, which will be for the foreseeable future Toyota's #1 vehicle, and this car coming in above the price of the RAV4 hybrid doesn't even make sense mathematically. Toyota needs some cheaper product, but they don't want to bring that lower end to the USA. I think the dealership system is deeply harming the parent company, because the dealerships don't want low end product either. It's creating an affordability crisis. You used to have cars at 20/30/40/50. Now it is 40/50/60 and squeezes out too many folks. Toyota makes some very nice econoboxes, we don't get them.

However… Rodents ate the soy based electrical wiring sheathing in my car. It will cost $6500 to repair. Insurance will cover most of this but I am left wondering when (not if) this will happen again. I would appreciate any suggestions you and your readers might have. Regards.

My Wind Chill Pearl LE awd is flawless in the paint. I paid a friend who is a detailer to apply a sealant, and it's smooth to the touch, water beads right off. I wonder I you can contact Toyota to remedy the paint situation.

Would it be a good idea to only carry half the gas tank filled if you'll be doing 95% of your daily driving in EV only mode? I figure the battery efficiency should be better instead of lugging around a full tank if you rarely need to use it. Any technical reasons why it could be bad, maybe? Thanks

One thing it might be good to touch on in your videos is the ergonomics of vehicle ingress and egress. This Prius has such a low roof i wonder how much a person has to contort their body to sit in this vehicle?????? Can an oldster do this day-to-day?

Toyota has the right idea with the Prius. The majority of people don't drive over 40 miles per day, so the Prius makes perfect sense; take advantage of the 114 MPGe that the EV mode offers, yet still have the ability to travel any long distance without range anxiety. Well done Toyota, you made a beautiful, well performing car that people actually WANT to drive.

I love this redesigned Prius. However, the hard plastic in the back, no vent in the back, or pocket in the back for your passenger seating area is a bust 👎 The top of the line Pruis is over $42k. I feel at that price range a few more things could have been added. I can go without the power seats for the passenger, it would be nice though. No spare tire really worries me... I know it can be bought at an extra cost... I hope a few of these missing things are added in the next couple of years.

Great review as always! I have to make a correction if I understood you say the Prius was the original OG hybrid. That is not correct! In 1999 the two door Honda Insight was the first hybrid available in North America! I know because I bought one. The Prius followed about six or seven months later. I ended up buying the second generation of the Prius and loved it. I’ve owned many different hybrids from different manufacturers, including Lexus, since that time.

    1) how bad is the road noise? How bad is the CVT engine noise when revving? 2) does the battery emit fumes from the back that are of concern? 3) how bad is The steering wheel over the display in front? 4) what is torque curve like?

In EV Mode the Prime is near silent, especially with the 17's. When the engine kicks in, there is more noise but, not bad really.

My wonder is how good the mpg can actually get. I know my current car is advertised as 36mpg highway, but just this week I averaged 46mpg on the almost 600mile ride to Tennessee.

I like the Red & Black Toyota Crown slightly better. But I bet the Crown gets 1/4 to 1/3 the MPG of the Prius.
