One of the most influential era in Spider-Man's history was the 80's and early 90's. Amazing Spider-Man #252 saw the introduction of the alien symbiote suit, which would eventually turn into Venom and lead to an entire race of heroes and villains. In Symbiote Spider-Man #1 we travel back to a time before all that, when Mysterio is questioning his career as a super villain and Peter Parker had no idea his suite was alive. Peter David wastes no time starting to pay homage to landmarks that were still around and telling jokes that play better with a knowledge of the future, which can't be avoided. However, the storytelling skews toward chaos, and the art from Greg Land is mixed as well. Do we really need another Spider-Man story when others are doing it better?

Agree. Probably not a need to revisit this time line. I do love to see the Black symbiote suit again! It's always been a great design. I think that it's the coolest looking Spider Man suit of all!
But I do say this is good for the mysterio character. Because he’s such an underrated villain it’s nice to see that they’re focusing a little more on him
I Love Symbiote Spider-Man
The aggressiveness bothers me a bit if it’s the symbiotic affecting his behavior. The symbiote never altered his behavior in the original comics. It only fed on his adrenaline and did things while he was asleep. The anger and aggression became a thing in the 90s animated series. It’s sort of a glaring retcon if this is true. Still, if this is an alternate universe, then I suppose it’s fine, but it sort of takes away the lure of the book since I wanted either a time piece or a what- if style book. Anyway, sorry for the rant haha. Great video lol

I'm glad you like it. We all appreciate different things in art and stories, which is why so many different types succeed.

I've always wondered. They've always had Spiderman give ppl second chances humans and aliens. But never the symbiote

He'd worn the symbiote a few times since then, but he never really bonded with it the way Eddie and Flash did. It was trying to control him, so Peter probably has a very skewed perspective.

True now i am mad that piese of Symbiots Black Cat stole didn't bond with Spider-Man even he tried to take it rebond with him but instead it perferd Mysterio and it is really dumb

Just check for a digital copy they are cheaper sometimes.
The only additional symbiote (well tech it wasn't the symbiote) storyline was after aunt may got shot and he changed his suit to appear black to reflect how jaded he was.
I like the artwork on this one.

Honestly they should have left it alone 20 years ago and not having the suit became Venom and the subsequent nonsense... it could have a suit he used as a last resort against OP villains ...

Art looks good, But I’m torn. I loved Spiderman when he had the black suit originally (his sense of humor and his relationship with black cat) and I always wished we could’ve seen more of him during that time period so this is a great idea but Mysterio is probably my least favorite Spiderman nemesis, so let’s hope he’s not going to be central to this run. Characters with Powers of illusion have always been corny and annoying to me.

its cool but not a must here.. i feel this only out cause the new spiderman movie coming.. it not should be just for sake of that i feel.. otherwise just looks like something was just put together and nothing more.
I cancelled my order of this when I thought Greg Land was no longer doing the art, but now it's back on my pull list because he is! Beautiful artwork despite using photo references.

@@hudsondavis1399 Actually he doesnt use photo references, or at least not what he's referring to. It's tracing and swipes, though i do like his work on occasion.
