Hey Olly, just a shout out. When you said about diminutives, you used praiazinha and piratazinho, but those are not the most common diminutives used. We most often say prainha and piratinha. The ones you are still used though, but very rarely, only when you want to give a different meaning to the diminutive.

Não funciona da mesma forma como os americanos utilizam, não tem um sentido negativo, é só uma forma de se referir a estrangeiros. Usamos normalmente, até mesmo para pessoas de Portugal que falam o mesmo idioma que o nosso.

@@marinadesousa134 Desculpe, mas eu sou brasileiro e convivo diaramente com outros brasileiros. A minha vida toda sempre ouvi a expressão gringo e sempre foi para definir de forma informal pessoas que são de fora do Brasil, inclusive tem por definição no dicionário como "pessoa que não nasceu no Brasil; estrangeiro". Ouço cotidianamente a palavra e é só ir em vídeos que tenham estrangeiros reagindo a conteúdos brasileiros que você vai ver que é bem comum as pessoas comentarem o termo seja pra se referir a americanos, quanto para espanhóis, cubanos, alemães, canadenses, portugueses, franceses etc. Vou citar alguns exemplos aqui de vídeos brasileiros aqui do KZread que usam o termo para se referir a estrangeiros como gringo e que você pode dar uma olhada (todos eles sem a intenção de ofender e sem caráter negativo): Gringo provando churrasco brasileiro pela primeira vez do canal do Gaba (com um japonês); Gringos respondem: Será que o português é tão difícil de aprender? do canal Mescla (vídeo com uma alemã, um americano, uma romena, um francês, uma peruana, uma congolesa e até um angolano). O Brasil mudou o gringo da carinenakr (vídeo com um coreano). Novamente, gringo não tem o mesmo sentido que se tem nos Estados Unidos, não usamos pra discriminar americanos como se é usado no espanhol.

@@marinadesousa134 nós chamamos as pessoas de gringo não por elas falarem outros idiomas, mas pela cultura e costumes serem diferentes dos nossos. É possível sim chamar portugueses, angolanos, moçambicanos etc. de gringos, porque a definição do termo em português brasileiro se refere a estrangeiro de forma geral.

I am from portugal and sometimes forget how much of the portuguese language isn't based in specific rules, you just "know", good video 👍 edit: it is based on specific rules ofc, i meant that native speakers don't even think of rules (but wrote it horribly wrong) , it simply sounds natural to us, which makes for an interesting idea that people learning my language are more aware of the rules then me. also: amigos zucas, eu sei que tugas tem a reputação online de não terem sentido de humor, por estarem sempre chateados/irritados com tudo e mais alguma coisa, principalmente nestes vídeos a comparar os dois países que acaba sempre com um enorme campo de batalha nos comentários, mas acho que também podiam arranjar outra piada que não seja apenas "devolva o nosso ouro" :), é que recebi mesmo muitas replies a dizer isso.

Sou sueco e tenho alguns amigos da América Latina. Eles me apresentam a música brasileira e eu gosto muito. Foi por isso que decidi aprender português. Eu acho que é muito fácil. Aprendi muito só de estudar as letras das cancoes brasileiras, e agora já falar um pouco.

I'm Croatian and I've been learning Brazilian Portuguese on my own and since my native language is Croatian , I didn't find it so difficult to learn, since the grammar is easier.Also, knowing some Spanish or Italian helps in learning from the scrath. @@argeancomics3291 Só pra mostrar como é a gramática no meu idioma materno. Por exemplo,a palavra kuća " a casa" é em nominativo (o caso gramatical). Temos sete casos gramaticais. Vocês não tem isso.Veja as mudanças nas frases com a palavra "casa" em croata. Idem kući ( Vou pra casa), Kupio sam kuću (Comprei uma casa), Imam tri kuće ( Tenho 3 casas), Ima snijega na kućama ( Tem neve nas casas) etc. Isso nem é tudo e estou mencionando só como é o substantivo em croata. Todas essas mudanças acontecem nos adjetivos, números, pronomes etc. Por exemplo, dobar učenik ( um bom aluno - em nominativo). Učitelj je imao dobrog učenika ( O professor tinha um bom aluno). Sempre que estudo qualquer idioma estrangeiro, eu comparo com o meu idioma materno e por isso eu realmente não posso dizer que o idioma Português é difícil.

@@darioshub Entendo. Mas o fato do seu idioma ser complexo nao faz a gramatica portuguesa facil. Se vc estudar orações subordinadas e conjunções, vc vai entender o que estou falando. Saiba tb que a maioria dos brasileiros falam o portugues errado.

@@argeancomics3291 Não,eu não estou dizendo que a gramática portuguesa é fácil ou fácil pra qualquer pessoa. Só queria dizer que existem idiomas mais complicados, seja em gramática ou pronúncia etc. Quando aprendemos algum idioma, sempre comparamos com o nosso idioma materno, então no meu caso eu fiz isso com o croata, que obviamente é mais complexo gramaticalmente. Por isso, não achei o idioma tão difícil ou complexo. Por exemplo, existem idiomas tonais que acho super difícil na pronúncia porque o croata não funciona assim, estou falando de cantones, vietnamita, mandarim etc.

@@user-si5oq1lw8e se vc tivesde nascido russo, thailandes ou bengales, acharia o portugues dificil. É uma questao de referencia. Óbvio que pra um brasileiro, aprender russo é complicado. Ja para um frances, italiano ou espanhol, a estrutura e declinações gramaticais são muito semelhantes. Daí fica mais simples, como é mais simples pla um alemao aprender inglês do que um japonês. Não sei se existe uma tabela internacional comparando as dificuldades de cada idioma. O fato é que português não é facil. É é isso que estou afirmando desde o início. Não afirmo que seja o mais dificil. Mas certamente não é fácil.

I didn't start learning Portuguese until my 30's. I moved to Brazil without speaking any Portuguese at all. It was quite difficult and I had to really work at it, but now I am 100% fluent. My speaking could still use some work and I will never lose my accent but my listening comprehension and reading is at a very high level. I almost don't even notice anymore if someone is speaking English or Portuguese to me, I simply just understand what they are saying. I still make lots of grammar errors, but hey, so does every Brazilian. People always ask me which language is more difficult English or Portuguese. My response is always that I think all languages are fairly equal in difficulty at the early stages The differences really start to appear at an intermediate level and even more so at an advanced level. At these levels Portuguese is much more complicated than English. One difference I point out to people is that if you are learning English and walk up to a table of six Americans and ask how to say something, you will most likely get the same response from everyone. If you do the same with Portuguese and a table of six Brazilians, you will get six different answers and then a two hour debate among themselves as to who is correct. Portuguese is a very fun language to speak especially if you only speak English. It is fun to learn a language that is so expressive and full of emotion. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it. Plus who knows, maybe you will end up marrying a Brazilian like I did and only speak Portuguese together like we do.

How long did it take you to reach your current level of fluency?

@@danielnottingham3294 It's now been a while since I reached fluency so I will give you the timeline it took me to get to what I believe is fluency. Also know that I often say to people that I don't have a knack for languages, I learned through brute force and time. So my timeline could easily be much shorter for those more adept at learning languages. Year 1: very basic low level conversation, able to get around on my own (shopping, driving, restaurants, etc) but still a struggle Year 2: still very basic, able to understand better in a one on one conversation but still a struggle. Although I am sure my Portuguese improved during this year it didn't really feel like it. At the end of year two I remember saying to my Portuguese tutor that I didn't think I would ever really be able to speak Portuguese. Year 3. one on one conversations getting better, able to follow conversations between Brazilians better, but still difficult to keep up when subjects are bouncing around quickly. Year 4. Start of fluency. Easily follow conversations among groups of friends. Rarely need to ask for the meaning of a word. Able to speak confidently in front of groups of people. year 5. This is the year I would say I became fluent. Not because I still didn't make errors or have an accent ( I still do) but because I was now able to be funny in Portuguese and also understand nuanced humor. I believe humor is the last thing to come in the fluency journey. I think there is very big gap between what would be an examination for a certificate of fluency for business, or something similar, and truly being able to speak and understand the language. For me this is the stage everyone should aim for as it is the most useful and most enjoyable. Unless you are needing to do serious translation work or write for publication in Portuguese, I think day to day Portuguese with humor is much more important. I say this because Portuguese is a complex language, and rather than studying irregular verb conjugations in the subjunctive , just learn to speak with people.

@@murilo24567 My wife has this issue. She is somewhat fluent in English but she won't speak it because she is always afraid of making mistakes. I tell her it is impossible to learn to speak a language without sounding like an idiot sometimes. You are not going to sound like Mozart at your first show. It is just part of the process. I only learned to speak Portuguese because I was willing to make mistakes, and still am.

Você escreveu muito bem, e acredite: Nem nós brasileiros dominamos nosso idioma, porque é muito difícil mesmo! Mas aqui, basta você falar o suficiente para que nós entendamos o que está dizendo que já está bem! Aqui não exigimos que pessoas de fora do Brasil fale tão bem porque até nós mesmos não dominamos o português bem! Para se ter ideia, em uma escola aqui é normal alunos tirarem nota 10 em Inglês e outros idiomas e reprovarem no próprio português!

Cara, na parte da digitação mesmo, sempre que digito um texto e volto depois, tem algo a ser corrigido... como agora. Kkk's! Voltei depois de 2 meses e lá vou eu editar pontuação. O tempo da escrita não é o mesmo que o da leitura, por isso sempre ocorre isso. Hauauaua! Sim, o mais importante é que não somos levianos como alguns estrangeiros que, na realidade, são xenófobos, mas ficam com essa desculpa de exigir que falam bem o seu idioma... @@leonardomoutim4267 Machado de Assis acho difícil de algum gringo que está aprendendo Português conseguir entender, pois se utiliza muitas palavras que eram usuais na época e hj não mais, pronomes de tratamento, pronomes pessoais da 2 pessoa do plural, fora as joguetes que ele faz com a vírgula pra dar duplo sentido na frase e deixar o leitor com um ponto de interrogação na cabeça. Machado de Assis usa um português muito rico em detalhes que até para nós nativos, as vezes fica difícil de entender. Agora imagina para um estrangeiro! É melhor deixar ela com Paulo Coelho e outros gurus de Auto Ajuda que tem hoje em dia. Se ela pegar um Machado de Assis pra ler, é capaz dela se frustar e desistir na metade mano. Na real, de todos que cê recomendou ali, acho q o mais de boa é o Augusto Cury, pra alguém que está aprendendo Português BR.

Sou Holandês, falo português ou seja o português do Brasil. Não falo muito bem, mas falo bastante por ser gringo. Não tive aula em português, só comecei a ler jornais e por isso ia aprendendo pouco a pouco. Eu tinha estudado espanhol, num curso em Salamanca, então já conhecia a gramática espanhola. Ficou mais fácil para aprender para mim. Acho que o português e mais complicado que o espanhol, nem se quer falo da pronunciação.

@@Hugotinnemans Destacarei em negrito as modificações corretivas (não só de verbos, mas também de algumas expressões que eu interprete que tu quisestes dizer outra coisa) que eu fizer, além de adicionar e remover algumas vírgulas. Sou Holandês, falo português, *mais especificamente* o português do Brasil. Não falo muito bem, mas falo bastante *para um* gringo. Não tive aula em português, só comecei a ler jornais e, por isso, *fui* aprendendo pouco a pouco. Eu tinha estudado espanhol num curso em Salamanca, então já conhecia a gramática espanhola. Ficou mais fácil para *eu aprender*. Acho que o português é mais complicado que o espanhol, nem sequer falo da pronunciação. Em suma: - O emprego de "ou seja" ("falo português *ou seja* o português do Brasil") no seu texto dá a entender que o português do Brasil é o único português existente. // "ou seja" could be translated directly into "in other words" - O emprego de "por ser" ("Não falo muito bem, mas falo bastante *por ser* gringo.") no seu texto dá a entender que você não fala muito bem, mas o fato de você ser gringo lhe ajuda a falar. Acredito que substituir por "para um" transmite melhor a mensagem que você quer passar (I speak really well for a foreigner) - O emprego de "ia" ("[...] e por isso ia aprendendo pouco a pouco.") é uma flexão errada do verbo ir, pois está no pretérito imperfeito. O pretérito imperfeito transmite uma ideia de que você estava realizando uma ação no passado, porém ela ficou incompleta. O correto seria usar o pretérito perfeito "fui". Complementando, na mesma frase em que você cometeu esse erro, você flexionou o verbo "começar" corretamente no pretérito perfeito: "comecei". No pretérito imperfeito, o verbo ficaria "começava". - O "para aprender para mim" dá um sentido diferente daquele que você quer passar, que eu acredito que seja "para eu aprender" (for me to learn). "para aprender para mim" adiciona à frase um sujeito oculto ("para aprender para mim") e dá a impressão de que algo ou alguém está aprendendo para você, e não de que você está aprendendo.

Tenho que deixar um relato aqui. Uma coisa muito importante é saber que falamos a mesma língua, mas meu amigo, se tu for no sul se acostumar com o português falado lá, depois ir pro nordeste, tenha uma boa sorte com as características de fala local. Porque nem eu consigo acreditar em como cada estado ou até mesmo cidade tem tantas coisas únicas na fala cotidiana. (Eu amo muito isso)

Eu também. Essa é a parte mais linda do nosso país. Se não tivéssemos tantos políticos corruptos, esse país seria o lugar ideal para se viver. Uma riqueza cultural extraordinária, não temos problemas sérios como terremotos, furacão, etc. Mas, voltando a falar sobre os diferentes modo de falar nossa língua, eu sou um exemplo que dificultaria o gringo. I know some Spanish and I travelled to Brazil 30 years ago. I spent about 4 months trying to convert my Spanish to Portuguese. People I met there were very tolerant, helpful and appreciative of my efforts to speak the language. Reading is much easier than speaking.

Not quite so. Can you understand the differences between 'bolso', ' bolsa' and ' bolsillo' in both linguages? Or 'presunto' and 'fiambre'? Or 'talher' and 'taller'? Or 'oficina' and 'oficina'? etc....

I am an Englishman now permanently living in Brazil, I can communicate OK but a lot to learn in terms of verbs etc. Brazil is a great country and I am going to stay here!

Sometimes I here single words. In video somebody says "nada", I hear "надо", somebody says "pauza", I hear "пауза", sombody says "agora", I hear "агора", somebody says "vamos", I hear "вамуш", somebody says "estrellas", I hear "эстреллас", somebody says "elfos", I hear "элфуш", somebody says "elfi", I hear "элфи" and I wonder why the plural of "elf" sounds differently in Portugal (elfush, elfus, elfi).

When I'd first heard Portuguese language I always thought it sounded like Russian and French in one language. Today when I can speak Portuguese I don't think anymore like that.

I once heard Portuguese sounds like Russians trying to speak Spanish Also doesn't help that both Brazilian shitpost and rassian's are always so absurd.

I learnt Brazilian Portuguese, and am still learning. I think its easier than any other latin language to learn. They speak clearly and slower than the others. And there are a lot of good channels to watch.

As a native Portuguese and English speaker, this video actually depressed me lol. It reminded me of how many rules there are in a language that native speakers don't even consider when speaking it. I use grammar rules I don't even know exist, they're just in my head by osmosis. It's hard to think of ever getting to that level with another language when we spend so much time talking about and studying rules.

As a Brazilian learning French, everyday I'm amazed how I was able to learn Portuguese. French has the same huge amount of rules that you have to know, as Portuguese, and I know the Portuguese one by heart, I don't even know why

I'm not a native speaker of English but there are a lot of rules and structures that I learned without studying, just reading, listening, trying to talk to people, etc., with the repetition along the years the brain get used to the new language. Spending too much time studying grammar and rules is a waste of time and energy unless when you are already very fluent in the language and wish to study it to a very advanced level.

I learned German before Portuguese so Portuguese seemed easy in comparison. I wouldn't say it was easy for me to learn. I had to spend hundreds of hours and really push myself to memorize vocab and train my pronunciation but I reached fluency in less than 2 years (working my butt off) whereas German took me like 4 years to reach a level of fluency.

Im from Angola a country in África who also speaks portuguese! And we learn English at school or French it depends we can choose wich one we wanna learn! And even portuguese been my native language a always thought that portuguese was way more harder than English to learn speak and write. There is just too many rules in portuguese grammar, u can learn how to speak for Basic communication sure but to speak properly with all the rules thats a totally different level!

As a Spanish speaker, I know these two languages have a lot in common (and gallego and portuguese even more), but still I find it fascinating and very pleasing in sound and cadence. Ps: I started reading Saramago straight up in Portuguese out of curiosity and really one could argue romance languages are really cool for ellaborating long, complex and rythmic sentences in creative literature. Of course, this is entirely subjective. Want to know if anyone else feels the same

I suggest you "Memórias de um Sargento de Milícias" - a very enjoyable and well written book. Other good authors are Machado de Assis and most of Portuguese authors.

I do not know about if it is the most difficult language to learn. All I know is that Portuguese is the language of my heart.

I lived in Brazil for about 2 years in my late twenties. By the time I left I was fluent, but I did approach it methodically and dedicated myself to study. Now I am older and attempting to learn Thai, which I am finding very much harder!

Tecnicamente só existe 2 mesmo, todos os falantes de português exceto no Brasil seguem a norma europeia, então quando Portugal muda uma regra gramatical ou acentuação isso se aplica aos países da África por exemplo, já no Brasil temos nosso próprio português que possuem regras e normas diferentes de Portugal e que a um tempo atrás ainda havia a necessidade do instituto de letras Brasileiro ter permissão de Portugal pra mexer no português, pelo poder econômico e militar do Brasil passamos a ignorar isso, fazendo assim 2 línguas portuguesas, a Europeia e a Brasileira

@@DaviFigueiraChavez I don’t mean to be disrespect but I don’t think they are that different. Portuguese from Brazil also has many different dialects and many sound quit close to Iberian Portuguese. Iberian Portuguese also has different dialects. Mexican Spanish and Dominican Spanish are more different from Iberian Spanish than Brazilian Portuguese and Iberian Portuguese are to one another, at least from my point of view.

@@DaviFigueiraChavez European Portuguese is on the other hand, more poetic, polite, sophisticated, elegant and formal, albeit a bit more difficult to pronounce. The fact that the Portuguese people conjugate verbs much more correctly than Brazilians also helps.

@@Sergiovision it’s all the same. It’s just an accent change. Iberian Portuguese is not that different from Brazilian Portuguese at all( many places in Brazil speak a Portuguese identical to the Iberian Portuguese, especially considering Brazilian Portuguese has many different accents in itself). Portuguese is Portuguese. Dominican Spanish is just considered Spanish, no body says they speak Dominican Spanish(despite Dominican Spanish being more different from European Spanish than Iberian Portuguese is to Brazilian Portuguese).

@@JunsenJ3 I apologize for saying this but the comment you made is ignorant. Especially considering Brazilian Portuguese is closer to the original Portuguese sounding. Then I guess archaic (old) Portuguese also has “Macaco” sounds.

I am trying to acquire Brazilian Portuguese and I consider it as one of the most beautiful languages in the world. I already speak Italian and French, therefore the task is a bit easier and as you indicated in the video I can understand a bunch of the words in the langauge. Thank you for this great insight of the Portuguese and the remark on the learning in the context. Am I of those who really believe in the concept of the learning through storytelling. This was a long time ago when I used my proficiency in languages in order to earn some additional income 😁 Nowdays I learn and use languages mostly because of fun and enjoyment 😊

I'm Portuguese. I "cry" when trying to learn German. Já estive no México e, embora o contexto seja fácil, a velocidade do idioma é absurda, inclusive é o idioma mais rápido do mundo. Espanhol Chileno também é um caco.

O português de Portugal sofreu influências da Espanha e da França, por isso o português tem o costume de "engolir" as sílabas. O exemplo é a forma como falam "te-le-fo-ne", que soa como "tel-fon". O brasileiro fala mais aberto e soletra todas as sílabas, o que facilita a compreensão por pessoas que falam outros idiomas.

A couple of things: Portuguese has not only diminutives (like Dutch) but also the opposite: augmentatives. Another feature I miss in English and Dutch is the future conjugation of verbs.

Something that I've felt you missed is that in portuguese, you can answer a question with a verb, rather than Yes or No, and this is pretty common in informal language. For example, if someone asks you: "Você foi para praia no final de semana" rather than answer "Sim" you can simply answer "Fui", which is the past perfect tense of the verb "Ir"

Oh I miss Germany so much! I was an Austauschschüler and lived in Germany for 1 whole year back in 2009. Best year of my life so far! I miss my student days there! I made so many friends and learned so much! Most people were so kind to me. What an amazing Country! But I agree that German can be a bit tricky to learn as well, but not that hard as many people think it is. My biggest problems were the Artikel and Genitive, Dativ and so on.

Eu sendo brasileiro assistindo esse vídeo e tentando entender o porquê nossa língua ser muito complicada para os outros. Nossa língua tem muitas regras gramaticais, além de ter muita variação de sotaques em diversas regiões do Brasil. Fora que temos muitas palavras similares tanto na fonética quanto na escrita que diferem totalmente no significado.

Acho que o mais difícil no português BR devem ser as gírias e neologismos, a gente usa muuuitooooo!! Heheeh Às vezes mesmo pra gente é difícil de entender, principalmente quando viajamos pra outros estados. Acho nossa língua e suas variações maravilhosa ❤

Yeah, it's kind of easy to learn Portuguese. But there is a catch, the slang, in Brazil there are so many slangs that it is almost impossible for a website or even a teacher to know all of them. Depending on each state where you are in Brazil, it is likely that you will encounter different types of culture, who speak different slang. There are also words that are not in the dictionary, but they also participate daily in the vocabulary of a Brazilian/Portuguese.

It's a myth! Many Brazilians think that because the language we speak daily isn't the same as in the books, but that applies to most languages. Also, people who say that usually don't even speak a second language.

I feel like this video makes the language seem a little harder than it is. I've been learning Portuguese for 2 years now and while these are all features of the language, yes, they're not nearly as complicated as they might seem. The pronunciation and spelling are pretty rhythmic, so if you focus on the music of the language, everything falls into place. There are also a lot of words and conjugations, etc, that don't get used so often, so the essentials don't often clash or get complicated. Overall, I'd say it's a language with a lot of flavor, but not exceptionally difficult.

I'm glad you're not finding it that hard to learn. But keep in mind pronunciation and spelling can vastly change from region to region. If you don't know the basics, you could say places like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lisboa, Porto, Luanda or Maputo speak different languages. As for the formal written language, I'd say most natives can't do it. It's especially hard

agreed. most verb conjugations have patterns and not all of the tenses are used that often. accent marks are useful when reading. the - is barely used and can be totally avoided if you want to. diminutive is ridiculously easy. nouns having gender does make it harder but that goes for every language with this same feature

Agreed. But I would add that while it's not that hard to speak, it's relatively hard to get the grammar right. The informal, spoken language can be quite different from the formal, written language. I've hosted exchange students from all over the world and they all manage to learn pretty quickly, but most of them, if not all, struggle with verb conjugation, the fact that our nouns are gendered, and the sheer amount of pronouns.

Pra mim, o português tem algo que parece ser único entre os idiomas: é possível entender mesmo estando errado. Outros idiomas parecem ser muito mais rígidos nesse ponto.

O português é uma língua bonita e expressiva, estou estudando inglês intensivamente e estou tendo enormes dificuldades pq eu tento fazer com o inglês, am alguns casos, como fazemos no português, para cada situação vc pode mudar a maneira de falar de acordo com o seu sentimento ou o real significado da sentença que está falando. No inglês não é assim. Então, eu penso que cada língua tem suas peculiaridades e suas formas de se.apremder. o inglês pra mim soa um pouco mais seco direto e objetivo e isso é difícil de entender. Já o Português é uma confusão sem igual que acaba tornando uma "arte" assim como várias línguas asiáticas desconhecidas.

That moment you're a native brazilian portuguese speaker and never knew that bandeirola and diabrete were diminutives 😅 It's also kinda hard because many diminutives have different forms. For example, all my life I used piratinha and prainha. And for boca you also have boquinha. And then there's the superlative, many different forms as well, like for boca we can have bocão and bocona... like boca can become masculine for superlative for some reason 🙃

As a Brazilian, my advice is to not feel overwhelmed by the many verb forms. Start with the basic ones, because even if you make a mistake is likely that Brazilians will understand you anyway. With time, you will realize that many forms are not used in speaking and the learning process will fell much easier.

Tenho uma curiosidade sobre o português de Portugal: é comum o uso do "pretérito mais-que-perfeito" aí em Portugal? Aqui no Brasil esse tempo verbal é praticamente inútil, eu não conheço ninguém que use isso.

​@@timoteostation Aqui usa-se muito o mais-que-perfeito composto do indicativo (ex.: já me *tinhas contado*; ele *tinha-me dito*), mas a forma simples é mais usada em situações formais, como obras literárias ou nas notícias. Pelo menos que eu saiba, as únicas frases em que é comum utilizar-mos o mais-que-perfeito simples do indicativo são "Quem me dera [que algo]!" e "Tomara que [algo]!". Quanto ao mais-que-perfeito do subjuntivo, também é utilizado, tanto para situações que realmente aconteceram (ex.: esperei que ela *tivesse acabado* o teste para vir embora) como para situações que não chegaram a acontecer (ex.: se *tivéssemos ganho* o jogo, estávamos agora a celebrar). Não sou de todo entendida no assunto, até porque a conjugação dos verbos sempre foi o que menos gostei da gramática, mas espero que tenha ajudado!

I been to both Portugal and Brasil. Being born and and grew up Filipino with both Spanish and Portugese grandparents it helps me with all the sounds and the sentences construction. Both languages are easier for me because Filipino language has a lot of words borrowed from both. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for pointing that out(0:30)!! That's a really common misconception about Portuguese and Spanish.. a lot of people misguided by ignorant KZreadrs and influencers seem to think that the difference is akin to British and American English but Portuguese and Spanish are WAY MORE different that it might appear!! To the point that a lot of times they are actually mutually unintelligible phonetically.. i live in Rio and remember a party that I went at a local bar and some of the birthday person friends' were Argentinians..and they simply couldn't understand our portuguese and neither me their spanish...we had to actually talk in English!!! That's how different the pronunciantion and phonetic are!! That's why not only if you try to speak Spanish in Brazil people would find it offensive but they actually just wouldn't understand you at all!!

I’ve been trying to read Portuguese for over 8.5 years now but I still can’t understand what I’m reading or what people are saying and I have to translate everything into English to understand. I haven’t been able to have a conversation yet and I’ve been practicing every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese, we’ve been practicing for over 5 years now. I’ve visited Brazil 18 times.

Eu sou brasileiro aprendendo inglês. Achei interessante seu vídeo. Pelo que entendo, se comunicar bem, não é o mesmo que ter um nível avançado na língua. Português em alto nível, até mesmo pros nativos, tem regras demais, e quando começa a ficar nebulosa as coisas, o correto é seguir grandes gramáticos do idioma. Então digamos que de uma escala de 0 a 6, estando no nível 3 já está muito bom sem passar nenhuma dificuldade no país, no 5 você não passa nenhuma vergonha e será visto como culto, no 6 são pessoas que estudam a língua/idioma, neste patamar, terá que ficar consumindo livros gramaticais de grandes escritores. Então no nível 3 já está muito bom para residir, viajar, manter contato constante, consumir obras brasileiras, etc.... passando de 4 seria para trabalhar em empregos formais e administrativos, acima de 5 se seu trabalho é estudar ou lecionar Português. (no fim, não tente aprender tudo, aprenda o necessário para seu objetivo)

Eu admiro muito um estrangeiro que sabe falar bem o português, porque ele não é fácil nem pra nós! 🤣🤣🤣

Que nada! Aprender o inglês também é difícil. Rsrs. Na verdade em geral o povo brasileiro não gosta de estudar quase nada. No meu trabalho, por exemplo, que é uma grande empresa, quase ninguém sabe inglês. A empresa oferece oportunidades pra estudar, mas a galera tem preguiça de estudar.

O portugues é difícil por conta dos tempos verbais. Pretérito Perfeito , Preterito mais que perfeito, Futuro do pretérito, Futuro do Presente. Modo indicativo, Modo subjuntivo. Gêneros masculino e feminino. Isso o Inglês não tem e torna a língua muito difícil para estrangeiros que querem falar direito. O portugues é difícil sim. O brasileiro por exemplo não.sabe falar nem.escrever bem o português.

For me Portuguese is very easy once you get the hang of it. Verbal conjunction can be a pain but you can get that too..! But definitely if you speak Spanish it’s easier to learn it. I started learning Spanish first so that probably why I think so. My favourite word is Irmandade!!
