Great video and test! One of our team member is also using the Aqua Grey 4K for the Mega 8K and the Aqua Grey 8K for the Mini 8K and comes to the same conclusion as you, both for printing quality/details, but also resistance and flexibility. About comparing resins, we also did some tests between this 8K resin and a "cheaper one" and the difference is quite visible. Your conclusion is very good about that point! :)

It would have been nice to see the prints primed. That way it is an apples to apples comparison. Unless you think some details would have been lost. If that is the case, this is a mute point.

Thanks for the suggestion! This was our first time trying something like this, but will definitely keep in mind for future videos. Either way, also why we included other really important tests in this comparison.
I'd love to see brand comparisons for resins. Anycubic, Nova, Phrozen, etc. Most of us are still sporting 2k printers, it'd be more useful to compare the cheaper stuff brand vs brand, water washable, etc
I pre-ordered the Sonic 8K Mini a few weeks ago for my first 3D printer. Thanks for making this comparison video! It really helped understand the differences between the two resins. I can’t wait to start printing!!!!
Looking forward to that exposure test video for sure! Looks like an interesting calibration file. Also, what an advert for the mini 8k and matching resin haha.

@@3DPrintedTabletop It's nice to have the side by side comparison and thanks for doing it, you see a lot of people saying you can't tell the difference or you don't need 8k, but those models look miiiiighty crisp!
I'd like to see a resin brand shoot out. Also resins that was with water compared to regular resin would be useful.
Thank you! This was very helpful, my minis keep splintering with the elegoo resin and couldn't figure out which resin to get specifically for minis.

I'm glad it helped! I cured for 15-30s in the sunlight, and that has been more than fine for these minis.
Thanks for the vid, it was very informative. Can you compare Elegoo abs like resin vs the Anycubic equivalent?
I for one would love to see a comparison with the various siriyatech resins and even with different combos between them
This is exactly what I needed to prod me into the hobby! Thanks Danny.

Some Anycubic Resins tests please!!
Thank you for the fantastic examples and testing! Small nitpick, would you try to get your camera focused properly when doing the detail comparison shots? Everything was blurry except your fingers
I would love to see something like this on the photon mono with different resins from anycubic and from other companies maybe? But also could u include your printer settings?
Do you remember what was your curing exposure time on these mini? My minies are a lot more brittle while using aqua 8K.
You should do a video where you test those resins with some of Siraya's Tenacious, which can add some flexibility to the base resin.
Thanks for the video, Danny. I am happy to see the durability testing. On the other hand, I must be one of those people who don't need detail, because I didn't see any substantial differences between 4k and 8k.
Thanks for this video m8ty has helped me finally make the decision to jump to the 8k printer, keep up the good work.
I use Anycubic Basic Grey. Detail is fantastic, but it's very brittle. With about 10% Siraya Tenacious though... It's perfect.
Would love to see a comparison of Elegoo's resins. Great video.
If you ever do another one of these, the Vulkan Resin from Atlas was touted as being a very durable and flexible resin. Made by the Atlas Support group. There was a lot of Hype when it first dropped, so maybe worth checking out.
Very informative. If you have something like the phrozen sonic mini is it worth it buying 4k or 8k resin? Would a non 4k or 8k printer pick up the difference?
Great video! Amazing start. I would love to see discount resins. I like to print a TON and try and find the cheaper scale resin. I started with siraya tech, found longer on sale, then finally Sunlu at a steal. Have not tried the Sunlu yet. If you could test bigger brand resins for details I myself would love it
love to see you test Siraya Tech Blu its some tough stuff
Awesome! Well you definitely answered my question. My Mega 8K printer showed up not too long ago and accidentally ordered the Aqua 4K resin. Thought to myself if there's "really" a difference. Looks like Im going to return it and get the 8k resin lol
Great video! I'd like to see this kind of comparison done between Elegoo's (or anyone else's) water-washable line and their standard. I started using Elegoo's water-washable (on my Mars 2 Pro) when IPA was very hard to get, and I've tuned my printer and process to work very well with that resin. BUT I wonder if switching to the standard will give better results (like some online forums/groups claim). Thanks!

I'd love to see that too.
Would like to see something similar for filaments too. Though does the extra crispness of the details from a higher resolution resin matter if the model were a larger scale like say 1/12 , 1/8 or 1/7?
I'm an ex Golden Demon finalist. I only have a 2k printer. It prints more detail than any miniature I've bought from GW or any other company.

It's pixel size, alot of the higher res printers are bigger, so the pixel size isn't always much different to a smaller printer... But the higher resolution might make smooth areas be smoother and have less moir
That’s surprisingly resilient
Wow, I'm just happy that I started buying Phrozen as my default resin.
Regardless of brand, im always sticking to abs-like resins, its just so nice to not have your miniature shatter if you drop it
I would like to talk to you about form labs resin... It's what my job uses and it really puts this into perspective.
Hi, is 8k aqua grey more brittle with time? Currently I use a mix of 30% Tenacious and 70% Siraya Fast grey, models are quite flexible and resistant after UV curing but with time they get brittle and are less resistant to accidental fall.
I have been testing Siraya Tech straight and mixed and would love to see what you would come up with.
Great content! Thanks!
Yes this way it seems more fun. But comparing Resins needs data, examples and measurable force/bend tests. CNC kitchen by Stefan got good vids on this
@grahlbert
2 жыл бұрын
It’s a comparative analysis. At the end of the day, what use would force/bend data provide to the layman 3D printing minis? It’d be interesting for sure, but I wouldn’t need to know, say, viscosities of bottled resins before settling on which one of the two to use if there’s clearly a superior one
How long had it been since you had printed the minis when you conducted the flex & drop tests? I can't say it's scientific at all, but I feel I've noticed that my minis will become more brittle with time, even if they are stored in UV-proof containers. I've always assumed they were drying to some extent, as some that had just a bit of tack on them after post-process curing will become smooth, and matt finishes of the resin color will become more uniform, too. Then again, I may also be running into a bit of 'repeated flexion damage' on my minis, rather than a single-time flex. Stuff like the sword, daggers, or longer hilts will refuse to break and just graciously bend, but then a few weeks later on the gametable, I'll just pick them up slightly wrong and the fragile bit will instantly snap.

Hi, I have the same problem. My tenacious mix is good at first glance, but with time models are brittle. Lookiing for a resin or mix of resins that give a long lasting results actually.
I used the 4k resin and found it to be much more brittle than you've shown it to be. Even after a minimum curing run of 2 minutes in the anycubic cure and wash station. Did you cure the Minis? I would be interested to see you test siraya tech fast navy grey (as it holds a lot of detail) and Anycubic Eco resin (cheap, a little flex).
I have an Elegoo Mars 2 Mono and I would be interested to see if you gain any benefit using the 4k or 8k resins on a standard printer.
What was the cure times / methods used on these models?
This is great! I would love to see a video comparing eco-resin to standard resin, I feel like we all know Standard is going to be better, but I was wondering how much better it would end up being.

I get less fails with plant-based. detail might be a little sharper with ABS style resin, but more fails. I have my kit dialed in better now though, so maybe it will be the same.
A friend of mine is awaiting on an Anycubic DLP printer and has asked my what kind of resin to get so he has more on hand when it arrives. The problem is that I have not found anything is not very expensive. The various MSLA resins Iooked at the manufacturer website specified not for DLP. Any advice?
I am confused about something... Other reviewers found the Phrozen 8k resin to be more brittle, and their pieces snapped much faster than yours. Any chance that a difference in post cure times accounts for this? And if so, how long did you cure for example the snake guys?
Is the aqua 4k good to paint on for tabletop ?
Do these resins seperate easily like the Siraya Tech Navy Grey does?
My issue is finding 8k resinin US, just ordered some with my new phrozen mini I ordered, but all I could find in Amazon was 4k, I think unless I'm going on something crazy detailed I'm going to get some of that, cheaper and more available.
Good thing you didn't use Phrozen 4k Water Washable Black, it'd snap and break if you looked at it wrongly. Been printing with it when I got the printer and wasn't aware just how brittle it was until I tried Nova3d Red Wax.
i would like to see how siraya sculpt compares
Question: Compared to other resins you’ve used, how bad is the odor of the 8K resin? I’m asking because I ordered a Phozen mini 8K printer and it’s coming with their 8K resin. Note: This is my very first 3D printer. Thank you. p.s. Thank you for the video, I didn’t know if the 8K resin would be flexible or not and was prepared to purchase an addictive.
I was already 99% sold on getting the 8K/8K, but the flexibility and drop-resistance might have pushed it over. Not cheap getting the resin in the UK though - £60 a bottle, or order it through Phrozen in bulk to get it cheaper.
If Phozen isn't sending you a check... they should. I just bought an Anycubic photon mono x 6k on Amazon..... and I've already decided to return it (I haven't even received it yet) based on your video to get a Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K.
Best print settings for mini 8k and 8k resing?
the 4k will work with my elegoo saturn?
How long were these models post cured?
How does this compare to the Mars 3 pro?
Is ameralabs tgm 7 resin worth it? I was surprised the resin in this video performed so well. My minis snap all the time.

I would love to see comparisons of entry level printers with "entry" level resin, such as an Elegoo Mars 2. I think that's where most people are going to start off before moving on any ways due to affordability. Also, with wargamming prices on the rise 3d printing is getting a lot more justifiable.
Plz compare resin shrinkage and dimensions accuracy.

We gotta get you a Motorola RAZR bro
You are nailing it with these last few videos! I would love to see some other basic resin comparison tests, even if it’s just the major manufacturers (Elegoo water washable, abs like, anycubic basic/eco/abs, epax hard, etc). I assume all resins would print equally across the board in terms of printers, but that could be an interesting test as well.
Am I the only person who can’t see any difference between them? 😂 “Clearly better!!!” Me- 👀 where? 😂
I buy the cheapest resin possible. sometimes it is very brittle, and some resins allow UV light though (which causes extra material to build up around the supports) but I find mixing them allows for a better resin. can't say much for the detail, as im using a 2k printer, and IMO thats mostly down to the printer.
Why would you not set the figurines down instead shaking in hand close to each other with equal lighting and steady focal point? Of using some high res pics in between focus on the same spot of having both figurines slightly under some different angle. Would've been nice they had a tag while showing which is the 4K or 8K etc I don't know how you get these likes but if it's just you saying it's better and a lot of times I couldn't find any difference between all the shaking and having the figurines not zoomed in. People jsut assume when you say it's better, it somehow is?
ELEGOO abs-like
Phozen VS Anycubic
1. if you need a macro or magnification to see the different does the extra detail really matter? How many times you gonna hold it up to your face or get a magnifying glass out. The pixel size of the Phrozen 2k is about half (62.5um) the thickness of a sheet of copy paper(100um) 4K a third(35um) and 8k a fifth(22um) almost no one can tell the difference in those sizes with the naked eye. 98% of people can't see anything smaller than 100um. You do not need more than 2k on a 6inch printer you can't see the difference with the naked eye 2. you should of given the prints to a third party to evaluate and done a blind evaluation. I think there is a lot of unconscious bias going on here. I saw little to no difference even under the parts of the video that was zoomed in. You also should have either used the same color or primed them to be the same color. Different colors show of detail better.
@vincentlelong3106
2 жыл бұрын
Yep I agree, blind evaluation would have been better. Also you should have filmed the comparison while minis are standing still, holding them in your hand while filming make them a bit "blurry" due to the slight movement of the hand.
@kraviits6647
2 жыл бұрын
You have a point. At this resolution it's more about light bleed for details rather than actual resolution. 2k would be enough to print high detail minis, but higher resolution printers tend to have better LCDs with less light bleed. I had same mini printed on Mars 2 pro, anycubic mono 4k and 8k mini in my hand and I could tell asap the difference between them. It's not visible from tabletop perspective, but if you inspect the mini in your hand you can definitely tell the difference.
I'd love to know which resins are strongest and most resistant to drooping and similar damage. After all, I'm planning to expose my prints to the most destructive force known to humanity; players!

common sense, prime your model with same color before testing the 8k resin's darker gray is much better at showing the details.

do i miss something or did you completely missed the point? you are testing resins not printers so why do you not compare 8k printer & 4k resin to 8k printer & 8k resin?

Videos like this are quite pointless. Out of X amount of manufacturers of resin and printers, there is no tangible difference between 2k, 4k and 8k. You have to actually have microscope or wrong settings for resolution to play its part.
