The ride is based on a cartoon series with a very specific sense of humor, Goofys eyes, Minnie locking Pluto in the trunk, etc is all just true to the cartoon. It's unhinged and hilarious, it's one of the reasons I love this ride. You have to watch the cartoon

Yeah, not a lot of people have seen this version of Mickey but me and my brother grew up watching it (it’s already been around for over 10 years) but they perfectly translated the humor perfectly into ride format.

Disney tried to make a Mickey ride for EPCOT in the 80's but the project got scrapped. The theater you walk into for the queue (where you walk into the screen) and the factory scene we have now was originally a part of it. So excited for what's to come of this podcast!

As someone who has never stepped foot in a theme park, I've quickly become hooked on this pod for the enthusiasm, insight, and structured analysis around themed experiences. Finally made my way to the first episode and you guys were really on it from the start. Also, I was genuinely taken aback at how beautiful and detailed this ride is, and how effective the combination of effects in making quite a synthetic animation style feel interactive and lively and immersive. Feels super creative and oddly organic in a way I don't usually feel when watching ridethroughs.

Just went to WDW a few weeks ago and out of all the rides we went on across all four parks, including Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon (we were even in the pilot seats on that one!), THIS is the ride that's still living rent-free in my brain. It was so much fun and every time I think about it, it makes me genuinely happy.

We went yesterday, and I was excited to check the ride out. The line wasn't very long because we went during the parade, but when we finally got on, it broke down and we waited forever listening to a boy have a melt down about this being unfair and that this is not ok. They finally unlocked us from the carts and we had to walk in a line back to the loading area and out the exit. So hopefully next time we go we will be able to actually experience it the way it's ment to be lol

Love that you folks are getting into theme parks! One thing you may also want to consider when talking about wait times are that they're partially dependant on the capacity of the ride. For example, if 3000 people wanted to ride Pirates of the Carribean, that line would be about 50 minutes since Pirates has a capacity of ~3400/hour. In comparison, the same amount of people who want to ride Peter Pan will need to wait 3.75 hours since Pans capacity is ~800/hour

I'll be honest, i got on this ride at WDW last year and I wasn't that impressed with it, but listening to these guys talk about all of their favorite parts and how much they loved the DL version is making me realize that I probably didn't enjoy it that much because I was just missing the Movie Ride. I still don't think Runaway Railway is a 'worthy replacement' of The Great Movie Ride, but I'm realizing that if I think of it that way, I'll never appreciate what's great about this ride as much as I should. Hopefully I can get on it again sometime soon and look at it with fresh eyes.

I find ypur enthusiasm for theme parks/Disney endearing. Just watching the pod to support the Watcher Entertainment brand. I just wanted to say that as a parent with a three year old, she is much a fan of Mickey. I wouldn't worry about him staying an icon to younger generations. With Disney+ they will be able to enjoy Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mickey's Mixed Up Adventures, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, and any other available Mickey-centric content for many generations to come.

It featured lots of animatronics of characters from disney movies singing their songs conducted by Mickey. It closed in 1980 and was moved to Tokyo Disneyland for a while before closing permanently in 2009. The Three Caballeros animatronics in their ride at Epcot are from this show!

16:38 this is what i felt about for Peter Pan. I had this late stage love of rollercoasters and especially thrill rides, so when i was kid dark rides were all the awesome ones, but as i grew up and no longer fear thrill rides i kinda find the dark rides to be lame. From the little mermaid to the toad one, i just don’t really care for and get even a little annoyed by them for how they seemingly waste my time, i don’t feel immersed and i just get the feeling of magic better in watching the movies or short films. So Peter Pan was something i was not looking forward to, but i have a baby sister and a niece. So when we get on this one, oh my god. THIS IS DISNEY. like suddenly the magic of watching Peter Pan in vhs becomes reality. I was amazed how this ride just lets you feel like a kid. Truly one of my favorite rides of all time, among with the best thrill rides of Disney.
