I mean if JK was making the show just to make it, he could have put it on many other platforms besides YT. Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, heck, even Snapchat all host video. He chose YT specifically because it can be monitized. It bothers me less with shows like Fallon, Meyers, and Colbert because even though they are filming at home and uploading portions to YT, they have always uploaded portions of their shows to YT, and their primary form of distribution is still through traditional media. With JK, it really feels like he is invading a space that truly doesn't belong to him, and using a crisis to profiteer, which is just shitty. And then he sells the concept to be distributed through traditional media anyway. Why not just pitch the show to networks to begin with? Why invade KZread? It's like a starbucks opening specifically to try to shut down a smaller coffee shop, and then boarding up when the small shop goes out of business. It's opportunistic, manipulative, poorly made, and I am just as mad as Pat is. He could have used his celebrity to at least promote other content creators while he was here, but no. He just comes in, gets whatever money he can, and abandons the platform as soon as it stops serving him. People make their livings here dude. I wouldn't mind a whole episode where Pat just rants against JK. I despise what he has done.

@@ckillgore it feels weirdly like what people talk about when they reference "cultural appropriation", to the extent that there is a culture on KZread. He's a more famous and influential person kind of just parachuting in and skipping past the usual long and difficult process it takes to become successful on KZread, because he has a network in entertainment media who will just signal boost what he's doing anyway, regardless of its real quality, and because he's gone straight to the top, he really never bothered to make any kind of connections to anyone other people on the platform, or show any kind of understanding of what they do.

Ruby and Fernando’s reunion has been hinted at throughout the film and when we cut from Cher’s perspective, she is looking down to Fernando Cienfuegos, who is holding a torch...because he still holds a torch for her after all these years...Then they duet a torch song about days gone by. It’s SO good. This was easily my favorite film of 2018 and this review made my heart soar. Thank you so much Patrick 💖

As part of the male audience I've got to say that one of the reasons I like the show is that you present movies I would have never thought of watching in a way that is compelling and enthusiastic and makes me want to watch them. I would probably never have wanted to watch the Paddingtons or Little Women or Tree of Life or even Fast 5 (which I still haven't watched but I will) if it wasn't for your interesting and passionate discussions of them. Enjoy your break and I hope to see more soon

This movie makes me cry...EVERY SINGLE TIME. I could watch it everyday, it’s such an enigma of a movie and I find that most people that watch it regardless of if they like the first one or not, love the second movie.

YES. My wife convinced me to watch both the original and then, in theaters, the sequel. I didn't know what to expect, but I was floored by just how good the sequel was. The transitions between time periods alone were amazing. I also spent much of the run time quietly cynical about Meryl Streep not being in it - *of course* the Oscar winner didn't want to come back for their silly movie, so they wrote her out. So obvious! And then the finale happened and I understood that they had made the choice that best worked for the story they wanted to tell, and yeah, it got me. Just watching that part again when you were talking about it choked me up.

I have a very unpopular opinion on Meryl Streep in the first movie but I honestly felt she was miscast. It was probably the first and last time I disliked Meryl in a movie.

  • 4 жыл бұрын

@@bonesgrey I see where you're coming from. I felt she was too old to play Donna - there's rumours that Nicole Kidman wanted the role before Meryl got the rights to the play, which is also wrong because back in 2008 Nicole was too young-looking. The thing about Meryl's is even more noticeable when you pair her with the eternally teenage looking Amanda Seyfried and when we have to accept that just 25 years ago she was post-grad Lily James. But she's so funny and joyful in the first movie and so gutwrenching in the second that any argument turns invalid.

The target audience for Mamma Mia! is wine moms and future wine moms, and I have a wine mom and my sister is a future wine mom so, I've obviously seen both. Several times. And I agree wholeheartedly with your take. Though Here We Go Again beats the original just by virtue of Cher being there. Like, I didn't KNOW I needed to hear her sing Fernando, but like, I DID. I also didn't know I needed to hear her tell Sophie that holding grudges makes you fat, but I did.

One of the greatest blessings of my life was growing up with two sisters who my parents raised me to see as equals. It gave me an insight into women that a lot of guys bizarrely still struggle with after decades of adulthood, marriage and children. Our culture...grrr. So basically, that means I've seen Mamma Mias 1 & 2, multiple versions of Little Women and the Bronte epics, have heard lots about Mr. Rochester and Mr. Darcy AND the bathing scene in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice etc.

Another winning video!! I'm loving this trend, honestly. But yeah, you're so right about the sequel being an improvement. My sister and I decided to watch them both back-to-back a few weeks ago (it's a rough time, okay??), and, while the first one is a fun drunken romp, the sequel flows so much better, and brings the pathos while also being more genuinely funny, and energetic without being frenetic. The musical numbers are way better, and like you said, Lily James is a STAR (and the whole young cast is truly remarkable).
