    Lazy KZreadrs out here while Patrick putting 110% into each video to teach and entertain us. Love it Get your scores and weight up, son! P.s I feel I should say as a recent sub the reason I found this channel is because I had a random thought about Michael Bay and if he had redeemable qualities (loved The Island and Bad Boys) and have since worked my way through! Personally I think your vids keep getting better and love the humour threaded through them. Thank you.

    Here's what I don't get about that excuse: isn't the whole message of the movie "love yourself for who you are and treat people who are different from you with respect and as human beings?" And isn't that completely against everything Barnum stood for? Also, if Barnum made a movie about himself, why would he ignore all the businesses he had before creating the museum and circus? To make himself look sympathetic? I just don't think it even works on that level, sorry!

  • @Rozdlc

    @Rozdlc

    @@MrAspiringactor Barnum was the humbug king and was first and foremost a master showman. Even if he would not believe in the movie's message, as long as the audience ate it up and were entertained, he probably would have been happy. I believe he normally answered to criticism about the fakeness of some of the acts with a shrug and something like "You had fun right? So why complain?" Though I will say not sure how Barnum would have felt about the Jenny Lind plot since it doesn't exactly paint him in a good light either

    For “This Is Me,” I think you’re half right, they definitely don’t deliver after the song, but it’s definitely where it is in the plot for a reason. Prior to that, all their confidence and willingness to be seen by the public is based on PT’s confidence in them. But after he starts treating them badly (not letting them into the party with “normal” people, making them wear their costumes to meet the Queen, making them sit at the back during the opera performance (I think?)), this song exemplifies *their* confidence in themselves, how they don’t need a “normal” person to be their conduit to the public. I think it’s perfectly placed (but yes needed some more followup).

    One thing I find interesting about this movie is how it’s the direct inverse of La La Land. I remember walking out of it and a lady in front of me was exclaiming to her husband about how this movie was everything La La Land wasn’t. The performances in the Greatest Showman were fantastic and the camerawork was... dynamic. But the plot and characters were meh. In La La Land, the performances (dancing, singing and whatnot, the acting was great) were meh the camerawork was less in your face allowing for slow, beautiful shots while the plot and characters were far more interesting. La La Land pleased critics while the crowd was disappointed. The Greatest Showman confused the critics and the crowd loved it. One of these days I should get high (off of life) and watch both. I may just unlock the secrets of the movie musical.

    Had anyone else noticed the WOLVERINE Easter Egg when James Mangold’s name appears in the end credits? (The corners are designed to resemble Logan’s claws in an X-formation at 31:41)

    Two thoughts: 1.) Patrick in the woods made me think of the Kate Bush Wuthering Heights video (red dress version) and I kept waiting for the music to come in. 2.) My husband gave me my Charl plush cardboard placeholder and I laughed so hard. Reminded me of Star Wars selling kids an empty box for Christmas.

    Honestly, it could work if they actually told his story. Barnum was a piece of shit. He worked with gangs, organized bare knuckles boxing, whaled for trophies, and made some the greatest hoaxes of all time. His life is so bat shit crazy, if a faithful adaption of his story wasn’t entertaining, there is something wrong with this world.

    Patrick, your videos were a great source of joy and comfort for my husband and I this past year. Your video on LITTLE WOMEN and MAMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN really cemented our rabid fandom (that and Charl...). You & your outstanding crew created something very special this year, and it played a big part in helping make 2020 a bit more bearable for us. We are so excited to see what you have in store for us in 2021.

    For reasons I can't explain I felt compelled to binged watch this season - Normally I really love the Patrick Explains videos where he is ranting to his parents, but this year the gags about Charl and Matt and Patrick going crazy didn't really hit for me, but I love the commentary so I kept watching. After watching the full season the past two days I gotta say I love it! Something about watching it back to back made me realize it was a narrative and not just running jokes. Great job!

    The fourth movie is the let's do a movie about one of the fringe characters (no small parts) and the fifth movie is the soft reboot. The 60s animated logo signals old hollywood prestige and the modern logo signals that same prestige seamlessly integrated into modernity. Alcohol is a slippery slope. Just smoke weed. Every day.
