As a Senior Citizen I am aware of my cognitive condition. I am retiring next year from my 45 year career as a successful automotive technician because I know that I am at the point where I could become a safety liability to myself and my customers. I prefer to end with applause and gratitude rather than disgrace.

Just remember that, in the absence of dementia, older adults are just normal adults. Please don't be influenced by society's incredibly ignorant attitudes towards the aging process. Studies have shown that older adults without dementia perform just as well at their jobs as younger adults.

"I think it's a perfectly acceptable position to dislike both Joe Biden AND Donald Trump." YES! So many people are afraid to hold Biden's feet to the fire just because they don't want to look like Trump supporters. So long as Biden is Biden and not Trump, he can get away with anything. People need to know that it doesn't matter who's president. I don't care if it's Mary Poppins. Whoever it is, hold him/her accountable.

The problem with everything being politicized is showing concern that he’s suffering from dementia and mentioning he’s too old to be doing this job is seen as an attack so the problem goes unaddressed. All because so many people are terrified of admitting to being wrong and no matter how much we suffer they feel it’s worth it all so they can avoid taking any responsibility

And second, as much as I hate to be political on a channel that seems to really devote itself to rational and balanced analysis, the progressives in our country are VERY powerful. They control most of the institutions in our society. The opposition party's response has not been great. And it will take at least a decade or two to build a cultural response. Why am I saying this? Age matters. Sorry. Even the fittest 85 year old is not going to have the mental agility of someone in middle age. The brain ages and changes, period, usually unbeknownst to the owner of that brain, which is one of the problems. They certainly may be able to do other jobs, but not these types of life and death decision making occupations. Surgeons stop performing surgery by a certain age for that reason too. Besides that, 80/85 year old people should not be making long term decisions for the younger generations that have to go on living with those decisions. The 30/40/50/60 somethings should be deciding what kind of country they will live in, and should have a chance at being in positions to make those decisions, not the 80 somethings who, in spite of their denial, will not be here that much longer and on some level have lower stakes in these matters and especially 80 somethings who have spent most of their lives in these positions keeping the younger generations out. There is no reason that someone of that age who is completely (and beyond) financially secure, should be allowed to continue on deciding for the majority of people how they should live their lives. They grew up at a different time and it shows.

It creates a self-fulfilling prophecy where people don't vote for the one that might actually change things because the media has convinced everyone they're not "electable."

Since there is a minimum age requirement for the presidency in the Constitution, I wonder if the only reason there isn’t also a maximum limit is that back in the 1700’s, life expectancy was SO much shorter that cognitive decline was not even considered back then. We should address this problem now, but it will probably will never happen because so many of our politicians of both parties are elderly. Next best solution would be cognitive tests, but they’ll fight that too.

Excellent talk-you are so droll! "Many people wish they could forget that Joe Biden was President". Ive often admired the fact that Americans seem to let relatively older people continue in their professions. There doesn't seem to be a lot of age discrimination compared with other countries. I was surprised however that at the last election, there were only two choices: Biden & Trump. In a country the size of the USA, I thought there would have been more candidates to choose from.

Biden's mental deterioration aside, his policies are impractical and wrong-headed. For example, an Open Southern border during covid, a Fentanyl epidemic, and terrorists; a needless proxy war with nuclear-armed Russia; needless inflation caused by stupendous spending; Biden in his first week relinquished our energy independence to a regime that publicly. beheads people. All in all, Biden is a disaster whom the American people should have known was a disaster. But the voters were entrained to think 'Orange Man Bad.' Media unfairly demeaned Trump for years night and day. Trump might have had an objectionable personality sometimes, but his policies were pretty practical. Lets just say that certain people's sons with drug and sex scandals, who also just so happens to have had illicit business dealings in China and Ukraine were probably threatened with investigation and prosecution unless their father cooperated and agreed to be used. He did it to protect his family from their crimes, and is probably as much a prisoner of the system as the rest of us. Problem is that his mind is going quickly, and more and more people are beginning to notice. Methinks the powers that be are about to start the gears moving on getting rid of him now that he's outlived his usefulness. 🤔 If the GoP sweeps the midterms next month, Brandon will be the first person the Dems will blame, just watch and see.

I was in the Army for 4 years. I was dx with Parkinson's disease at 26. I worked full-time until, taking medications and waiting for meds to work, began to interfere with my abilities to function. I was medically retired at 36. I had maxed out all of the daily recommended doses of my meds in an effort or attempt to perform high level daily work activities. I'm 58, I've had Parkinson's for 31 years. I have had to face my limitations, head on. Being self aware is a blessing and a curse, that a lot of people do not have the full impact of. At any rate, there came a time, that I had to admit that my cognitive impairments could be a danger to myself and others. I was forced to stop riding my motorcycle. Learning to accept, learn, take full responsibility for my actions, despite what I wanted and needed, were a necessary evil. I had to go through all of that, to become a better person. I believe that I am a better Granny for it. It's a shame to me, that someone else has the ego, to put their own life, wants, needs and desires before their own country.

You are so right about politicians and their declining cognitive abilities! I live in California where Senator Dianne Feinstein, still in office as a Senator, 🙄, after 40+ years in politics; she can’t remember what she did a week ago, and rarely shows up to cast her vote for her constituents! Some say she’s embarrassing herself by continuing her term with such high decline and others say she has served her State for SO LONG, she is just entitled to keep her seat. To remove her would be disrespectful.🤨 I think she should retire gracefully and do right by the voters that put her in office for so many years. She represents a large population of Northern California and watching her become ineffective and incompetent, is a huge slap in the face of today’s voters. When is it a duty, to make those decisions for the greater cause? Great content as always Dr.G!!
