@@majorpwner241 Yes, I agree and it isn't just about the addiction, but all the fraud and shading dealings. Almost no one could have gotten away with all of that and still remained free unless they were from the elite class. For most of us head injuries and traumas do not excuse us from the harshest penalties, even though one might argue that there is a better way to deal with addiction than punishment.

Pretty much the entire political class of the United States is corrupt, if only in the moral sense, as lobbying via bribes is completely lawful. That's why I see ardent adherents of either the left or right as fools. The entire paradigm of Left vs Right has evolved into theatre whereby everybody thinks they're on a holy crusade but are actually just part of a pantomime which only serves to divide the people and thus makes them powerless and removes the threat they pose to the power elite. The sham "War on Drugs" has a long history but it is also one part of the larger corrupt system. It's a very similar political, military and economic landscape to that of the Roman Republic around 50BC, just before it slid into dictatorship.

What does Hunter's history have to do with anything? Hunter isn't the President. Hunter is a different person who makes his own choices which have no bearing on his father's ability to be a good person, an honest and fair politician and a hard working President. If the best you can do to discount a man is to dig up dirt on their child, it's because you can't find any legitimate dirt on the man, and you're pathetic for going after their child's struggles.

I don’t even want to take the medications the drs want me to take, but I require some of them to live as fully as possible. I’m 48 and currently take 32 pills a day for 6 chronic health issues, which is way too many, in my opinion. Most of them are prescription, but some are supplements, which I take to avoid some of the side effects that a prescription might cause for more minor issues. My younger kids say I’m afflicted to crafting and planners, tho, which I guess could be addictive, but I guess there are much worse things a person could be addicted to.

As a former substance abuser it bugs me that he didn’t take responsibility for his actions. As much as I don’t like to admit it, that amount of blame shifting is the type of thing that always ends in relapse. You can have external forces and experiences, that may have made substance abuse make sense, but ultimately it’s your inability to cope along with the strong chemicals that change how your brain works, that causes long term substance abuse; it’s a 2 part thing and part of that is your fault. If you don’t acknowledge that you’re screwed.

I agree. Still though, I think the Doc missed a really good opportunity here to explore the effects of narcissistic family dynamics and childhood emotional neglect. He came so close with this talk about Hunter being the family Letdown, yet he only persisted in just the kind of treatment that Hunter almost certainly faced his entire life from his own family. If I grew up the scapegoated sibling of the Golden Child and was constantly reminded (in ways spoken and unspoken) that “the wrong son died”… especially in such a high-status political family, I’d turn to drugs, too. Hell, I *was* the golden child and I turned to drugs for far too long.

@@ObiAmajoyiSrMD I didn’t say “let’s cancel him” I said “he didn’t take responsibility” and not having a correct understanding of your place in addiction/substance abuse is a great way to end up relapsing. I know this might be crazy but I don’t want the dude to die and that’s significantly more likely when you’re drinking and smoking crack. There literally isn’t one addiction health professional who will tell you “don’t take responsibility, it’s cool.” That’s why I care. “Why does it matter to you?” What are you talking about? You look out for your “people,” right? Well he’s one of my people, he’s someone somewhat like me, and I don’t want to see that be a problem for him. I was molested by my dad, damn near forced fed drugs and alcohol by him, raped twice, involved in serious gun violence 7 times and on and on and on and on… I have a lot of reasons to say “It wasn’t me, it was my circumstances, damn the luck of the draw.” If you do that though, and you ignore your place in it, you’re setting yourself up for failure. So it wasn’t my fault I got stared but ultimately it was my fault that I didn’t accept responsibility and felt I deserved to get high because my life sucked. Again, I care because I don’t want anyone to feel that kind of pain.

My partner is a political consultant, and he has opinions about this. It's not necessarily an attempt to blackmail anyone, though that's certainly a possibility. He probably feels entitled--as family to a former VP (and the current President) he has "special" protection for life, after all--and this leads to a sense of diminished responsibility. It's not uncommon for the children of former Presidents to be a diminished kind of f'ed up, it sounds like HB had a head start with the traumatic brain injury (I am also a survivor of TBI, and he shows a lot of typical symptoms after a typical inciting event). Throw in some normal rebellion, a bit of hubris, and several questionable friends, and you get Hunter B!

I remember when that accident happened and I lived in Philadelphia, so we heard and talked about it a lot. There are lots of stories around about why it happened and mostly, that it was no accident but that she was very upset. It's also been said the marriage was already headed south. I worked for the govt. so we talked a lot about it. Looking at it now, because we did not know about post-partum depression back then, I wonder if his mother suffered from that. As far as Hunter, basically, he's a spoiled brat, but being in his 50s it's a very bad look and he needs to once and for all be held accountable, as well as anyone else involved in any crime or cover-up involved with him. Dad won't be around forever to help him out.

Yeah, it’s part of the nature of addiction. 12 Step programs receive both a lot of praise and a lot of scorn, but one of the Steps is to make a list of all the people you have harmed because of your addiction and make amends to them unless you are unable to, or if it will cause harm to the other person (in the later case, making a contribution to a relevant charity is suggested). This Step doesn’t just apply to a few people, but to everyone - Because absolutely every person with an addiction has hurt someone somehow, and getting better means acknowledging that.

I read Hunter Biden's book, & I believe that he still obsesses about/ yearns for drugs. I wonder whether he suffered physical brain injuries in the childhood car accident, in addition to mental trauma? Add to that the fact that Hunter was the unsatisfactory 'spare' to his elder brother Beau, the 'heir,' and there is considerable cause for Hunter's erratic behaviour. All of the above does *not* excuse his destructive actions; it merely explains some possible causes.
