My hope is that she’s alive !! It would be a great to have her come back! She’s sooooo important to MISSION! One thing that doesn’t make sense is that Ilsa fought off 5 guys in MI 5 , and she couldn’t kill Gabriel ? It doesn’t make any sense.

I absolutely HATE they killed off Ilsa. She was hands down the best character in the franchise and most likable member of the team. Then on top of that they immediately (and without homage to Ilsa) invite the new girl into the group. DR1 came off as just a reason to replace the amazingly female member of the team for a new one . . . with the new girl’s character being nowhere near as intriguing or even likable. Not looking forward to DR2 and may just skip it, UNLESS the whole death of Ilsa is some IMF wizardry to surprise everyone when she returns as a major twist in the plot. Let's hope this is the plan! If not, lets hope they did shoot for this option and now bring Ilsa back because the whole MI fan base is upset over her death! This franchise, as great as it has been up to DR1, will likely not recover from the negative impact of eliminating Ilsa if it is final. Her character IS THAT GOOD!

If Ilsa really did die, I think it's a very conventional and very disrespectful death for the character. There was no conversation at the time of death. I have never seen such a bad direction. If she is going to die, she should have a very touching and committed end, like Tony in "Avengers：Endgame".

Well, first screening I was confused by her death. On the second screening I'm sure she's not dead. Few reasons 1 - Her fake death at the beginning 2 - Ethan saying : "You're dead, stay dead!" 3 - How Ilsa and Ethan look at each other on the boat, sad because they have to go apart because of the plan 4 - How they look at each other at the party, knowing the plan 5 - After her death, we don't see her body or have clear confirmation 6 - When Grace says "She's dead because of me", Luther says "No, you're alive because of her" 7 - Paris surviving her knife attack 8 - and the most compealing reason : the emotion. What was my emotion at her supposed death ? confused, not sad. And I know from podcasts, McQuarrie and Cruise give a real importance about the emotion all throughout the scenes. To me, this is all a plan against the entity, to get Grace engaged, and get us in the process, all of which will be revealed in Part 2, and that will be one the most amazing scenario to date. As you said, McQuarrie and Cruise had time and left nothing to chance.

I hope you are right, and it does make sense. However, in this one movie, they sacrificed the most valuable part - friendship and love - which was built up. At this point the movie simply lost big part of being "entertainment". I was simply heartbroken, upset, at loss. I usually watch good movies several times, but I will not watch this ever again, and will not watch part 2 at all, unless Ilsa is back, even if Eathan jumps off the moon... I don't care.

I really hope Elsa's alive. I was greatly annoyed they allegedly killed her off for that bumbling thief 🙄. I don't understand why they were trying to make it seem like Ethan & the thief had chemistry. There was no chemistry, no attraction, between them. I can't even see her as competent agent. I think in the next film she'll be assigned to kill Ethan smh

Ilsa Faust is the only character that can give Ethan a happy ending. Shes the only one that fits.

Calling it right now: The team (Except Grace) was involved in faking Faust's death on the bridge to throw off the AI and Faust was disguised as Kitteridge at the end.

Killing her would be a travesty. It would leave a sour taste. Even if she is too busy to do more MI, she needs to exit with grace.

Oh I love the points you’ve mentioned. I had so many questions after I watched it. Things were not adding up. It’s like I’m watching somebody else’s point of view. And ILsa’s death, that one didn’t make sense at all! Lastly, Grace? I don’t get her vibe. I don’t know, maybe I am biased but Grace replacing ILsa? No one’s buying that! So hopefully they can resolve this mess they made because it was fun and all. But the story lacks grit.

I think Ilsa Faust is really gone: the pocket knife stuck in the heart and eyes open (dead). What a cheesy and absurd way to kill off one of the most relevant characters in the franchise.

seems lazy writing and limited firming environment are the answers for most of the questions, but i wish Ethan want Grace to replace him in IMF so he can walk away with Ilsa. yup, it s fake death.

I hope she's still alive and once this mission is complete Ilsa and Ethan will meet up in Venice and he will finally go away with her!

I dont even see whats the reason to make Grace become the main and important female character in this series. Whats her role here? In IMBD in both Rebecca Ferguson's entry and the Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2 entry, she is listed in the cast. It's possible it will be flashbacks, but hope not.

I really enjoyed all the points you listed and they we're all extremely reasonable. I think that the writing of this movie was a bit lazy and it did not make full sense especially after watching the previous movies in the past. Mission Impossible has a lot more potential then this UNLESS they are waiting to show all the potential in DR2. Ilsa death did not make any sense to me at all. Why would they kill her off after building her character for years? Why did Ilsa give Ethan that smirk in the meeting as if they had plan something? Usually Mission Impossible will show us all the details but this time they did not. It keeps me wondering If Ilsa is truly dead. In my opinion, that's a wasted potential and lack of writing. If she truly is dead and they end up replacing her with Grace, that is truly a disappointment. Knowing the way Ilsa fights in the previous movies compared to this one really threw me off. When Grace said ''she's dead because of me'' and Luther says '' No, you're alive because of her.'' Really seemed like Luther hinted something. I have a feeling that Luther and Ilsa planned something without Ethan and Grace knowing. McQurrarie spoke out about Ilsa's death. He said that ''We have to have the courage to let Ethan fail and it has to cost, the mission has to cost, and without that, the villain simply will not have a threat…what you're seeing in the escalation of the story is what it costs Ethan personally in Venice.'' Even in that one scene where Ilsa dies and it was a fake out then later on Ethan tells her, ''You're dead, stay dead.'' There is just too many hints and if she isn't alive that is truly such a disappointment.

Thanks for the video. I hope Ilsa is alive. We saw that she could play dead. To get everything for the plan they needed Gabriel and Grace on the train. Maybe Ilsa faked to save Grace. They couldn’t kill Gabriel for his info. Gabriel stabbed his assistant and she didn’t die so maybe Gabriel is bad at the stabby thing. You pointed out some good open questions.

I want to believe! I really do! McQ said he was setting part 2 in such a way that audiences could watch it without having watched part 1. And that’s not a clever thing to say, makes me feel like I wasted my time with part 1 and specially makes me think there’s no ‘well written twist’ coming in part 2😢

All i want is ilsa faust to be revealed alive. Her entry to part 2 will make the movie more interesting. I just couldn't digest the fact that a strong willed woman who literally fought off so many guys in mission impossible 5 and 6 could succumb to one man in mission impossible 7. I am interested to see her back in mission impossible 8 with ethan confessing his love to ilsa. They make great couple. Her death in this movie looked so fabricated. I feel she's alive. Why killed Ilsa? She's the best female lead of MI. Hope to see her in MI7 part 2, and if she's not back, I'm not watching the part 2.

The moment they fridged Ilsa, I dipped. I thought we evolved beyond killing the female love interest to motivate the main protagonist. This franchise figured it out with Ethan Hunt's wife and not killing her off. Thus creating a mythology. It makes the investment in a series and character rewarding. When you kill them off like this you feel used as a fan, disrespected. And it makes the rewatchablity of the prior installments instantly obsolete.

I think DR part 2 will start with the real Venice sequence - totally bluffed in part 1 🙂

I started the MI journey because of Ethan (Tom). I have continued the journey because of Ilsa (Rebecca).

Ilsa is alive.

The choice of who would die that night in Venice was not the choice between Ilsa or "that strange, unimportant annoying runaway woman" as so many think but between either Ethan's beloved Ilsa or his DAUGHTER Grace whom he fathered with Marie,the woman from his past whom Gabriel then murdered. I'm totally convinced of that!!!That would fit completely within the theme of the movie "that Ethan can't escape his past and it doesn't have to be only in a negative sense. Moreover, Ethan never did not know that he had a daughter with Marie because their child was born during his absence due to a foreign army mission of a good year when he was still in the army.Marie was shot dead by Gabriel before she could tell him the happy news and Ethan was immediately arrested on false charges of her murder and their child was then placed in an orphanage. It could still make this terrible death of Ilsa acceptable and meaningful to the story,even though she still makes us so sad .But like most here I also really hope that her death was staged to maiden both The Entity and his henchman Gabriel which would be a double victory over them,Both Ethan's lover and his daughter would have been saved.But whether Ilsa is really dead or not in Part 2, it will have been the victory of love over evil on that dramatic night anyway.

I really wish they bring Ilsa back there are few ways, Ethan and Elsa had nice moments. I enjoyed the movie, but feel really was sad for Ilsa's death, it felt too quick and easy, not convincing given her skills of fighting, there must be a trick. I think there is a twist in that whole Venice sequence. After the way things are shown in the end, I think turning Grace into a villain would not be a good idea. After movie 5 times there are few questions and felt like once second part it released the questions would be answered hopefully in a satisfying manner. Over all the movie is good one and entertaining

I hated the pathetic way Iowa was killed off. That character her deserved much better. I hope her 'demise' was all illusion.

It doesnt make any sense that Ilsa has a sword and she is a very well trained agent, but cant kill Gabriel who only has a knife. Not to mention that it s more illogical to let Grace alive after fighting with Grabriel while she only has a knife and she is not a well trained agent. Its crazy

I don’t understand why they couldn’t just give Gabriel the sword and Ilsa the knife. That way, it would’ve given him the advantage, but still would’ve evened the odds more since we’ve seen Ilsa fight with a knife. Hell, they coulda had Gabriel cheat with the sword a few times to add some extra points for his character since he’s pretty boring as a villain. Just everything about this feels wrong and could’ve been done so much better. If Ilsa really had to die (which is something I never thought was necessary since there are other more believable options to raise the stakes), then she truly does deserve better. She’s too good of a character to have such an undeserving and underwhelming end. If it’s not a fakeout, it’s by far the worst thing this series has ever done

Bit late, but did anyone notice at the start of the film, in the airport when benji sees the suspicious bag alert, it made the noise of the entity, which also is the same noise as the bomb cycles through the riddles, and when the entity is revealed in Venice. Maybe a coincidence, or not?

If she did fake her death why would she also fake it for Ethan when he arrived?? Also,they don’t show it in the movie,but OBVIOUSLY afterwards Ethan probably made her body get taken away and probably a doctor confirmed she was dead or something then they buried her. Or he left her there but let’s be realistic it’s Venice,they 100% did not leave her body there lmao

I don't think so, McQ have mentioned from the podcast that he and Tom had talked about Ilsa's death before TGM production so that's about 2018, right after the release of Fallout.

He has the same role as Benji.　Perhaps Rebecca herself wants to leave the MI series? Because it's hard for her to shoot and action ? Anyway, I think killing Ilsa is the wrong decision.

Venice was strange, the Exposition by Gabriel at the meeting was to sow distrust with Grace. She was an orphan and did not know Ethan so using the tactic made sense as Orphans are generally the least trusting individuals because their abandonment. I think that the odd fight In the alley was meant to just delay Ethan from saving Grace or Elise. I also think that Gabriel’s role is not to be the villain but the carrot for Ethan. He was the only man to beast Ethan and the Entity knows this the enritity When Gabriel came out of his AI Coffin on the train you could see an image on the entity on the front of the mask. Was it feeding info on potential outcomes or real time data on the progress of the Entities Plan? All the various players on the train made me think that was a metaphor for the imminent destruction of humanity. The bridge was pre-wired, the train could not be stopped I had the impression everyone was doing exactly what was expected. I think that the entirety is wants to make sure all the humans who know about it end up dead so that it can mete out destruction without anyone being any wiser. Luther was notably absent for the final act yet knew exactly what to do and provided what Ethan needed to move to the next phase. The pick and put pocketing provided the analog agency that people had that could be not be controlled by the Entity. I believe that Gabriel’s reaction after his escape from the train was his only loss of control and that Ethan had bested him and would find the entity first. He obviously did not make sure Paris was dead when he left her so that led me to think he wanted her to make whoever got the key knew how to find the source. Neither knew what the key did when they got on the train.

I was thinking the same thing as you: Why didn't Paris use a spear instead of a pipe? The pipe totally took me out of the scene.

Late to the party, but if Ilsa died like this I'm going to be annoyed. They chose to set her up as a love interest in Fallout, then immediately started her role in DR with a death fakeout, kept her out of the film for a large amount of time while introduding a potential replacement for her BEFORE she is even dead, and then is killed off unceremoniously. It's just such a weird story decision.

Hey guys...I am sorry for telling you this, but i am SURE that Ilsa is dead. Here are some reasons for this differend opinion: 1. Christopfer McQuarrie (producer) said in an interview, that ilsa is really dead and that we should'nt hope that she is still alive (think thats an huge thing...). He also said, that it was planed for a long time, to kill rebecca fergusons character bcs they didn't want "Mission impossible" to become a romance, bcs the Mission and Ethan should be the main thing of mission impossible. He also mentioned, that they wanted to keep the fact that Ethan's loves have to die or that he has to loose them. 2. Another point is, that Rebecca Ferguson, the Actress of Ilsa, said, that she was finished with the mission impossible franchise. She said that it takes lot of her freetime to shoot this films. She pointed out, that she'd like Ilsa to become more rough and that she wanted to explore Ilsa's Darkside. Ferguson also said that she isn't interested in the character anymore and that she didn't want Ilsa Faust to become a team member of Ethan's Crew and she said that she kinda saw that right this situation was coming. 3. the title could by the way also be a hint for the fact that she wont come back, bcs ethan will be "reckoning" with gabriel bcs he took away two rlly important persons from him (Ilsa and Mary) 4. You can already watch the teaser trailer of part 2 and we just hear luther saying: "Sometimes, you'll have to accept that you can not save us all. This wont bring her back" For me, this is a clear sign that Ilsa WONT come back I just want to mention something else. Sure, I loved Ilsa and I kinda watched mission bcs of Ilsa...I often watched the film until Ilsas death scene and then I just turned off the TV bcs I am not interrested in the other part of the film bcs I feel like Grace just substituted Ilsa in that Part. I also want to talk about other fakt that will probably make the next film exciting. So first I feel like there will be some crazy new twists and new reveled facts in the next film or some sectrets we can already find out with just watching close. I mean Ilsa and Ethan looked at each other like they had planed sth or that ilsa was Like "So you see? I was right" about three times (on boat, after gabriel said that one of them will die that night, when ethan said "Run as far as you can"). I am also confused, bcs Ilsa fought with her left hand, but in the past her main hand was the right one...maybe just a filmfail but who knows? And why did she lost? She already fought against other badguys who had crazy weapons and knifes and she didn't have any but still won. Why did Gabriel kill Ethan’s wife ?

We've been watching movies for so long that we can't comprehend if an important character dies a really normal death. 'Normal' as in dying on the spot without anything over-the-top or a dramatic sequence. But that's the hard hitting part about it. I was shocked seeing Ilsa being dead and was thinking that it might just be another one of their plans but now that I think about it, that's how death works. Someone is with you one moment and they're gone the next. MI7 did that scene really well and made me feel the whole tension while Ethan was running like hell to save her.

Especially weird that one character Paris would possibly survive the knife attack and the other character Ilsa would not🤔

@Teaspooncat ; did you see exactly where that knife was stabbed at her then????With Paris you saw that clearly but with Ilsa you only saw that she was hit somewhere.For the same money that was not a fatal stab and her pain was well acted from her.

@@ericpeeters3400 Wasn't it near the heart for Ilsa and around the abdomen for Paris? I don't wish to remember it, but since I had the displeasure to watch the film again (thus that scene as well) I feel it was close to the heart Edit/ Now recalling more, they definitely showed where the knife was sticking out (although it was dark) and it was in a pretty fatal spot I would say. As near the heart would be, right??

@Teaspooncat we only saw that Gabriel hit her at some point and we suspect somewhere in the middle but that's why it's not to her heart or fatal.Moreover, she was stabbed by her own knife which may have been sabotaged. I am not going to declare her officially dead until after seeing DR 2 and until then I hope for a fake death.And if she does really die I hope it is for a very good reason for the story, e.g. Grace is the daughter of Ethan Hunt and Marie( which I am becoming more and more convinced of) and then I can still accept her death as the great ultimate sacrifice out of love for Ethan and his daughter.But if she is simply murdered to make way for Hayley Atwel as her replacement as love interest for Ethan I am never going to be able to forgive McQ and Cruise for that and stop M.I. after next year's movie for me. And for all those who like her death so much for the story, McQ has stated that especially part 2 is going to be a "deadly reckoning,so Luther and Benji are not safe yet either!!!

she got stabbed in the heart; cruise left her there on the pavement. hello?! they're changing the franchise to create a series - ilsa would have been in the way. this flick was lame.

I think gabriel it wasn't that bad boy.... i think Elsa was much much stronguer by the fight... all it was script convenience... Elsa is a strongest than gabriel.. it make's no sense Elsa is dead...

She is planned to be in the next Mission Impossible, the final one.
