This is simple. This scripture says, “if you love me, you’ll obey my commands”. The key words, “if you love me”. This is talking about us loving God, not the other way around. God loves us even in our sin and imperfections, but that doesn’t mean He’s okay with us sinning.

God so loved the world he gave us his only son. God sacrificed His son for our sins. That which he asked of Abraham and stopped him before it was done. Read the Bible its a love story to us He is our heavenly father teaching us and picking us up when we fall and ask for His help. If you do not ask He will not answer you. @@shinebritechosen thank you! I reread my comment. I may have sounded like I was saying that God doesn’t love us, but that wasn’t the point I was making. The point I was making was specific to the verse, “if you love me, you’ll obey my commands”. That verse isn’t taking about Gods love for us or that if we don’t follow His commands He won’t love us. This is why the scribes and Pharisees were persecuting them, you see the scribes and Pharisees were actually the children of Ishmael... and Paul was basically saying they were not included.. Galatians 4:28¶Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. 29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. 30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Also note.. Paul wouldn't write people at Rome, telling them those things, if those people were not the"northern House" the remnant of the bloodline of Isaac.. The unforgiveable sin is when u see and acknowledge gods healing u or anything in your life and u can't deny it but still resist to praise him or live free willingly in sin or create a Satanic system. Faith plus evil. Worship the devil I guess. That happens a lot.

The real issue, I think, is our collective, adolescent view of love as something that creates the most comfortable and circumstantially happy situation. Love has requirements, and I don't necessarily mean in order to obtain it, rather to properly receive the benefit of it. "If you obey My commandments you will be My treasured people." This is obviously speaking of a place of honor and regard, both from God as well as from the surrounding nations, but has little to do what we would refer to, today, as love. Think of it in terms of a parent child relationship. If you are a halfway decent parent you don't just want good things for your children, you want them to develope into good people, and hopefully good things will come their way as a result. When you see your child doing well, especially as they get older and are taking on more responsibility, you tend to let your pride show, and you hopefully reinforce this behaviour with strong affirmation and shared affection. But what if your child isn't doing so well and they have a lase fare attitude towards the things you've spent countless hours, blood, sweat, and tears to instill in them? Do you have the same response in heaping praise upon them? Not if your any kind of a good father. You may express concern for the wayward youth, try to stear them in the right direction, but eventually there comes a time where both children have crafted a set of wings and regardless of their build, they will have to take their creations into the world and attempt to fly. Now the question is, of which of the two children did the father love? The answer is simple in that he loves them both, but with only one was he truly able to have delight in. And the second question is this: of the two children, which was more apt to receive the love of his father? Because true obedience is not merely doing what someone says (just because they said it), but it is an expression of love and trust when someone truly obeys their parents good teachings from the heart.

@@uniquemetal is that what happened? This is a common theory about the dinosaurs and I do not make any counter arguments. The only issue is, I was not there so I cannot tell you for sure. The facts, as you state, are not provable today, yet are probable, and may have happened. But again, neither of us were there. Yet it is called fact. So in both worlds, yours and mine, we have taken similar leaps of faith/reason to place our trust in something we do not fully understand. My believe in God is not unfounded, yet any "proofs" I might offer can be easily refuted by an unwillingness to hear. It is also quite interesting that you chose to comment here, as though your non-belief is so very important that we who have some belief must be chastised by reason. But if course you do not come with evidence because you have most likely not given much, if any thought to the existence of God and therefore have no points to make in either argument. But of course, this is your own reasoning for whatever reasons you have. You have come to this by use of your mind, but you may say of your brain. Yet who is truly able to describe the connection of consciousness, mind, and brain? We do our best to integrate a philosophical/scientific explanation in order to understand in a material definition of that which works in concert with the physical, yet exists immaterial. We think, and may possibly be able to quantify the matter of the universe, as well as the dark matter. However, to have an account of all that is matter is still a mystery to us. What is it and what is its multiplicity of functions? We simply do not understand the complexity of the natural universe in it's fullness. If that which is visible is not completely known to us, how is that which is invisible and not material, completely known? Science is amazing and can explain a great deal. Yet it has its limitations and our experience sometimes ventures outside of those boundaries. So to say there is no God, definitively, is a foolish statement. For anyone of any intelligence should know that true knowledge begins when we admit that there are things of which we have no understanding.

I think God's love is unconditional in the sense that He loves you for your intrinsic worth as His creation, a love that loves regardless of how far you fall or how high you rise, akin to a love a parent has for their child but imagine amplified to infinity. However, His nature of absolute truth cannot tolerate the wrong that humanity does. He loves the sinner, but hates the sin. And I think it all ties back to Christ being the answer to that dilemma of His unconditional love for humanity and his intolerance for sin. It does say in the epistles that He is faithful when we aren't, and nothing could ever separate us from His love. I think it's our nature as humans and our own limitations that fail us in our ability to grasp God's love despite our sins. In other words, I think God loves us unconditionally, but He loves us from a broken heart. Anyway, that's my two-cents on it. I hope you all take care and would like you all to know that you guys are loved by someone, be it your family, your friends, and God. So, friends, if anything, let's be kind and love another regardless of our beliefs and thoughts, to seek to lift each other up and encourage one another to be better, to not tolerate wrongdoing but to be gentle in rebuke, and, of course, to live loved.

So true. What I find concerning is that JP doesn't really have a let's say PhD in theology. There are some examples of him making some unbiblical statements. We should be careful of what he says regarding God and the Bible.

In my point of view, unconditional love means : Loving one even though they cannot integrate/recieve the love. With other words, love can be unconditional given, but not unconditional recieved.

I've heard it put that God's love is unconditionED but not unconditionAL. i.e. it's offered to everyone regardless of 'merit', but there are conditions attached, which actually are very practical as has been discussed: if you don't respond back by listening and acting on what God says then you cannot actually receive the blessing He offers: not because He withholds it but because you cannot receive it.

Disease is a natural risk phenomenon, for life includes death, nature is beautiful but is also fearsome. You not willing to accept that's how it goes, that's a different issue. Famine is humanity's fault, for not willing to either work [think of the old adage of "teach a man to fish..." ] or share in charity], so is not God's fault. He provides all what we need to never suffer famine., that we screw up, that's a different issue.

But how can you even know who is righteous [just] in first place? And the answer is he who makes God's will. In the end, God is all loving, but he is also all just, indeed. I can love my children whole heartedly… apart from anything they say or do / good or evil… it’s the quality of our relationship that is conditional upon their obedience. My love, my hopes and dreams for them, the relationship I want with them never changes… but the reality of our relating is impacted by their choices. No matter how many times I call them back to me or go after them to the dark places they wander, if they don’t join me… the relationship status is in a cursed/divided state rather than a blessed/united state. All the while my love remains unconditional and desiring to be in a unified relationship with them.

"If the love is unconditional it doesn't have an element of encouragement towards an ideal". Unconditional love is, in and of itself, an ideal. Encouragement towards other ideals comes from the intrinsic value of said ideals. If I value truth I will seek truth because I find value in it, and not because I internalized the pathological idea that I am only worthy of love if I do this or that. In fact, if people feel unconditionally loved, that removes a burden from our hearts, and this frees us to pursue other ideals. Not out of fear, but out of joy.

I like what you've said here. And it does depend on how one defines love also, as well as values. Because we cannot define God's love using our own measure and then lay that upon Him. It has to be love as He defines it, which is found in 1 Corinthians 13.4-8a. And I think the 'always hopes and always perseveres' could resolve JP's argument to the good about encouragement towards an ideal. When I see potential in someone, I remain in hope of a better future regarding them and encourage them to persevere through the hard times to attain it, for example.

Unconditional love does not mean the tolerance of actions that do not reflect, in the experience of time, the divine essence. A person can take someone’s life, if necessary and still feel a connection to that person. It’s not uncommon for soldiers to bury their enemies or even write to their families. The nature of God is eternal; meaning it is always available to us. The father in the Prodigal Son, was always waiting.

One needs to be a believer first, 1 Corinthians 2:12-14 ..and know their Bible, to some extent before "leading a Bible study" ..otherwise they're mishandling the Word of God. I appreciate Jordan's intellectualism ..but it may be a stumbling block for him..at some point he needs to take what he knows and accept what Christ says by faith in Him..not what the world teaches. All should pray for Jordan..for his salvation..and that God would hone his knowledge to a Biblical one that could lead others to Christ.. Ephesians 1:16-23

I was merely addressing the fallacy that Jordan could"lead" a Bible study...and offering that we should pray for him to put aside whatever is preventing him from taking the step of putting his trust in Christ...rather than his intellectual pursuits and fascination with the bible. He appears to be trying to think his way to God..rather than faith alone. He would be a mighty asset for the Kingdom of he could just see and accept the simplicity of the gospel. Blessings.

This one is actually very simple. If God's people don't obey and loose His favor, God still loves them. God favoring and choosing a people for service is not His love, it is a part of it. And furthermore, His loosing of His favor from a people who do not obey Him (according to His promise) not only has nothing to do with love in itself, but in context it shows His love for the other peoples who would be lead into suffering if God's favor was on a people that was living in abject evil. Because God has chosen His people an a set apart example to lead people to Him through their example of living in line with objective truth and the one true God's favor.

That suit Jordan Peterson is wearing is meaningfully symbolic.

This is a tough one I have been living with. I have came to the conclusion that GOD loves us unconditionally when we are born, then when we grow older and choose whether we want to serve him will he continue to love us or not. GOD is love though! That is what he is most LOVE, though he also has hate and judgment for those who don't love him. May GOD and his perfect son Jesus who is in heaven at the right hand guide us.

It's actually quite simple, God is referring to Israel's bloodline Covenant from Genesis 17 18 when you look at Paul's letters he's teaching you clearly nobody will be justified by the keeping of the law the Commandments are a secondary Covenant that was added to Israel's primary bloodline Covenant it actually starts in Genesis 3 15 and is carried over throughout the history of Israel all the way to the coming of the Christ

I have not made any comments on your channel, for I am unable to do it at my tv set. You deal with topics that make us human, spiritual beings. I got a degree in engineering, economics and currently do IT simulation about water resource sufficiency. For the most part I have been busy meeting life's demands and have not dwelled into the social sciences that deal with human nature and make our spirit richer. There are some great comments here but this modern notion of unconditional love is just an attempt to make God more palatable. We forget that He is God; we don't get to make the rules. "Nobody comes to the Father except through me", said Jesus. D.L. Moody wrote "people forget that love has no place in a courtroom". We have to accept that we are sinners before we can accept forgiveness; that's the point. His love is in His forgiveness. This is a really interesting subject isn't it!!

I don't see how you thought this had it anyting, the letters in the gospels tell you no one is justified by the law you need to go back and look at the other Covenant

@@gaylamyer But it's still unconditional. The story of the old testament is God keeping his covenant even after Israel breaks it in every conceivable way, and yet God remains faithful. Read Ezekiel 16 and focus on verses 59 and onwards. God remembers his covenant first. God is always the first mover. He doesn't remember Israel for her obedience, he remembers her for his own sake. God never enforces the implicit threat that Dennis reads in the passage from Exodus. Israel always remains chosen, not on account of anything they did, but on account of who God is.

@@bensaine3523 that’s absolutely correct. God never breaks his promise. Israel is still his chosen people, however that doesn’t mean they haven’t faced the harsh judgement of the Lord. They have many, many times and it has been extremely painful for them to endure these judgements. It has also been made clear by the scriptures that God is not finished with his work in them yet. But, when the time does come there will be final judgement for them and for us as well who continue to ignore and despise his call. He can’t break his word.

Yes I never liked PragerU and Daily Wire solely because their version of conservatism has nothing to do with Christianity. Dennis Prager is a Jew for a reason. He thinks he has to earn his way into Heaven, completely twisting the Bible and distorting its Good News.

Here's the problem so many of us have with God. How he claims to love us and want to help us unconditionally, we suffer greatly for things that he could have easily prevented while not having affected our free will. IF were to find a drowning person would you just pull their head above the water just enough of the time to keep them from drowning, or would you do everything you could to get them into your boat and onto the shore so they can recover? Too often we find ourselves crying out to God for help and the best we get is just barely keeping us going despite his having the capacity to do far more for us with ease.

The opposite of love isn't fear. It's hate. The opposite of fear is courage. His is love is conditional because you have to make the effort. He has done everything else. God loves us all yes, but he only helps those who help themselves and reach out to him. It's asinine to even think that his love is without terms cause whats the point of following the path to him if he loves me regardless of what I do, good or bad

@@henrytep8884 He has shown His great love in this, that Christ the righteous gave Himself for the unrighteous, He is calling you to come and repent that you may be delivered from your sins, Gods love is conditional in this sense, that you must repent and believe the gospel or Gods wrath abides upon you. From a common grace perspective we can say clearly that God has a love towards even those who refuse to submit to Him because He made them in His image, but do not mistake His kindness for weakness, He does not tolerate sin. Gods perfect love is given for those in Christ Jesus, Gods common grace love is given to all...that is why you are still breathing His air, because He continues to give you opportunities to repent and believe His Son, which is a type of love for you

God is love. In the end, when all of the judgements have been fulfilled, and when everything of the first creation is destroyed to be created new, God will dry our tears and crying will never be heard again. When you understand this act of love by God, then you will know that He is love.

I think there's often confusion about the difference between unconditional love and unconditional acceptance / approval / relationship. The fact that Scripture says, "while we were still sinners Christ died for us." and "God does not want any to perish but everyone to come to repentance." shows His unconditional love and desire to save everyone. But loving unconditionally does not necessitate unconditional acceptance or relationship. As Jesus said, "not everyone who says to Me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven but only he who does the will of my Father". God loves you where you are but if you want a relationship with Him and a place in His kingdom then you have to obey Him which starts with saving faith.

I love this explanation! Yeah, God loves unconditionally but our free will allows us to choose Him or not. When we sin, especially mortal sin, we are the ones making our choice not to love Him.

These days we sometimes think of love as supporting whatever someone does, and as protecting someone from all unpleasantries. Both are a serious mistake, and will little doubt contribute to the moral decay of a civilization.

Love can be unconditional, but it also works both ways. It's possible to get yourself in situation where love of another is not seen, recognized or unfelt. It can be even that love of another is seen as an opression or hate. A love of someone who is above, furthermore, has to take into account all those below who are, among themselves, equals or should be equal. So if a parent, for example, has 5 children but one decides to beat and impose his own will over those others, and he is restrained, not only because he hurts his bothers but by doing so also hurts himself, how would that one see his restraint? Would he interpret it as love or would he see that limitation on what he can do as an act of unloving or even hate?

As a father, if my love for my son and daughter is conditional on him/her rising up from his/her insufficiency, and they are always falling short, then I am effectively never loving them. The conflation is the word love with toleration/approval. You can love someone you disapprove of because if you approved of self destructive behavior it wouldn’t be love. Agape love is a love that calls people out from sin. The idea that you use that love like a carrot and stick sounds a bit dysfunctional/pathological. That sounds like what narcissists do.

@@O_tropos I cannot know what comes after death. The only lens I have to view this issue is by thinking about my own children. I want my children to do better but what would I do if they they didn’t? The thought that I would set up a punishment where my children suffer maximally and endlessly sounds like a horrid image. If a person did this we would think this person is evil. It’s the epitome of severity, and the reason given is that we are so offensive; so great an affront to Gods holiness that we deserve it. I don’t know how to force myself to accept and love a being that feels that way. It just makes me regret having been born. I’m sorry I was such a stain on existence, God. It feels like to make my Christian beliefs work I have to develop Stockholm syndrome.

@@O_tropos I’d like to hear you expand. I’ve always felt what you’ve just said, but the itch that keeps presenting itself is that it doesn’t matter what “I” think. I’m fallible. Who am I to question? Even if the reality I just expressed is incredibly cruel and horrid, I am not the final authority. If I had any inkling that God feels about me how I feel about my children my soul could finally be at rest. But I can’t rest in it. I’ve spent a decade of my life feeling somewhere deep down that God feels so offended by me that I have no room to defend myself.

my answer to what's being discussed @ around 5:00, is that firstly I remember the phrase in the book, something along the lines of: without holiness no one will see the Lord. Then I'm also reminded of stories in near death experiences and trips to heaven and things where people claim they saw His face but while out of the body, or the face of Jesus, but yet others that couldn't see His face because of the brightness of the light coming off of Him, so I consider depending on that person's particular holiness this not only determines placement in terms of where in heaven they go, but also to what extent they see and perceive God when they're there. Another phrase is: No one can see me (God) and live. (speaking about a person in the body), this would imply that merely seeing God while in the body will result in death. We're reminded of when Jesus made a reply to the people who were rounding Him up to face charges before His crucifixion, and His response was: "I Am", to which everyone within earshot of this fell down backwards as if blown back by a gust of wind, but this was just from God speaking. The Holy power of God was capable to level entire armies that came against the Israelites, or even decimate entire groups of the Israelites themselves who were on the wrong side of civil wars. Man's own absence of holiness because of the fall into sin has brought about the wages of death, whereas God through Jesus says of Himself He is the bread of life. If man, who is mortal without God, and given to the wages of death, meets the power of God adversely, who is Holy, whatever is unholy immediately dies likely by nature of simply being that: mortal by way of being unholy.

3 options: We may do nothing in life but help ourselves; we may be helpful to others in life; we may fall somewhere between the two. No matter, our creators’ love is unconditional.

Still, when it comes time to go to jail even though you tried to save your child from his sinful life by teaching them right from wrong, unfortunately, they have to pay for what they did does that make you a bad parent? does this mean you loved them less than their brother? In the end, God tried his best but our stubbornness led us to hell.

@@muppetonmeds I like your analogy, but it doesnt really cut it for a couple of reasons. 1. Jail is the governments control not yours. You would let him go to jail but the more correct way to describe God's situation is that you would punish your child. The question is would you punish your child forever? 2. All our punishment is temporarily even jail time (when we die it is over) no one would punish someone eternally, also that wouldnt be just. What crime can be so big that it deserves never ending punishment? 3. You say you tried to show them the right way, doesnt that mean you failed in your attempts? Do you know that is also called sin? Sin is not just doing bad things in its core sin means missing the mark, that is why all of us are sinners the moment we are born, we miss our mark of living (we start the proces of dying when we are born). Now before you say Jesus also died. Jesus needed to die in order to show everlasting life. So He did not miss the mark there. But to get back at your failed attempts. God does not try, God does and succeeds in all of His plan. Otherwise God fails (sins) to save majority of His creation and satan succeeds to take as many as possible away from God. Who is the real winner in this scenario? How can our stubborness be more powerful then God? Also did He not know that before He created us?

God's love contains also, the need to discipline us with righteousness when we stray away from the light and holiness of his way. That may be called "tough love," but it is still love, the connected concern and direction that hopefully brings us back into his truth and light. May we not harden our heart and deny the graceful invitation to not go further into the dark. The world is still full of love, but it is fallen, and darkness will challenge us until the end.

Gods love is readily available but to access it, you need to obey His word.

I found God's love and I didn't work for it at all. I just led a life of always putting others before myself and doing what I thought was right..what Jesus would do. A perfect life I did not lead. I made mistakes along the way but I learned from each one. I'm still learning as we all are and will continue to develop throughout our lives. I think of the times I've faulted..one time it was a night my dad was going to die due to a medical error..I was destroyed in my heart. Another time when I was verbally aggressive I remember speaking of the time the pharmaceutical companies almost cost me my daughters life because they approved a serotonin med that made her wanted to kill herself etc..with evil stalkers included..I've fought to keep my child alive for the last 9yrs. One stalker trying to get my daughter again a week before he beheaded another blonde that looked like my girl. (Brandon Clark Utica murder) other disappointments I've experienced is writing my government for 13yrs trying to help and being ignored as if I meant nothing. So when I think of how I would judge thyself...I made it! I survived! I didn't hurt anyone or myself while I experienced all of those horrors and I never changed what was in my heart. To care about people's suffering and to want to make a difference in this world because I knew of so so many wrongs in this world ..ways people were hurting that I could identify them and try to prevent others from enduring the same.

Unconditional love is what beats your heart, tells the brain to activate the endocrine system to secrete hormones, it’s decays matter, including your body, it animates the elements, which give us energy in the form of food, allows us to breath, and carry’s water through the conduit of the body. This happens regardless if you are a “good” or “bad” person.

Unconditional love is when God caused a deep sleep to come over Abraham and passed through the pieces Himself. He made the covenant and fulfilled it in Christ. This is amazing, unconditional love.

It is like a gunman saying you can choose to give me all your money or not, but if you dont i will murder your entire family, does that sound like a choice to you? Also do you honestly think people would choose hell if they believed it was real? The problem isnt they choose hell, the problem is that they dont believe in a God. No one thinks that eternal torment is a better choice then being with God.

@@O_tropos God is love (1 John 4:8) He is merciful and also just. I don’t think you can separate His unconditional love from His other characteristics. Love is also reciprocal and that is our choice.

@@paulski73 when you say 'BUT He is also just' you are suggesting that that is opposite of His Love. Those are not opposite things. It is through His love that He is just. When you read in 1cor13 what love is then you see that that love also does not like injustice and it is not love to let injustice stand. However like a father punishing his children out of Love, God punishes out of Love. Dont you find it strange that Jesus teaches to do good for your enemies and then God doesnt? God makes all the unrighteous, righteous did you know that?

God first loved us before we loved Him.

if Love is willing the highest good for another, then God's love is indeed unconditional. He always desires the highest good for all of us, no matter what, and His Will would lead us to that highest good... Nothing we do changes God's love for us. He lets us choose whether or not to love Him back, and that choice has consequences.

God's Love IS unconditional. But will we receive it (unconditionally)? Or do we still think we _can_ "earn" or "deserve" His Love? We need to understand that we don't deserve it and we are sinners missing the mark, and are in need of His Salvation, Jesus. We need to believe on Jesus _alone_ and His work on the cross on our behalf _alone,_ His death, burial and resurrection _alone._ We must turn from our sin _of unbelieve_ and put down our own failing attempts to "be good" and put our trust on Jesus _alone._

It’s not because a child gets lost that the parent ever stops loving that child. I think seeing someone go the wrong way, even to the detriment of their soul, doesn’t have to diminish your love for that person. Fundamentally, the question is “does God still love Lucifer, despite everything?” If the answer is yes, then the rest of us always have the possibility of taking a step in the right direction.

Gods love is unconditional.. His laws aren’t… God doesn’t stop loving u when u break his laws.. But u can’t expect him to go back on his laws/words

If God loves us unconditionally, regardless of what we do, then it seems that there would be no consequences for our actions. We could do whatever we want, whether it is good or bad, and God would still love us. This would mean that there is no moral accountability, no incentive to do good, and no reason to avoid evil.

True love is something you offer to benefit the person you love. The more limitations the person you love puts on you, the more the suffering that person endures. Not because you love that person less but because you refuse to participate in a grotesque animalistic lifestyle. That's why God is eternal and we are not: God doesn't change with the direction of the wind (God is absolute), while people's truth and morals change as the wind blows ( people are relative to their circumstances ). So in conclusion, we are our own limitation in the amount of goodness we receive from Lord God Almighty. Learn how to be PERFECT and Lord God Almighty will give you his infinite eternal blessings to you. Obviously FAITH is something so simple and yet extremely difficult for most of the people. Who knew that eternity starts with FAITH? Did you know this?

He would then be reacting and changing and not the absolute highest thing. No, God is love. It is who He is and it's what comes out of Him that we experience when keeping in step with Him. God isn't like us humans, He is transcendent, the "I am".

I think it's more of a thing where God wants to help us like a parent telling the child to wear a coat in the winter and the promise is that the child won't catch a cold. The child is free to disobey but has to suffer the consequences either way. It would be weird if God said: do or don't do it, I will bless you regardless ... It would void the whole human experience and the progress JBP is referring to here.

Unconditional love is knowing that Jesus cannot love me anymore, or any less than when He said He would be with me/us always.

The only thing conditional about Gods love is us. He doesn’t turn his back on you. YOU turn your back on him. Even if you were in hell, he still loves you.

Yes God’s love is unconditional. What is conditional is our own willingness to enter into that relationship and benefit from that love. The risk is not whether God will stop loving us but whether we will stop loving God. Sin corrupts our ability and willingness to love God, to love truth, to love beauty, to love goodness.

I can't square JBPs views. On the one hand he's so compassionate, encouraging, and gentle. And on the other he literally says "your best is not good enough". On the one hand, he refers to "Israel", we who strive with God, and yet on the other we strive to obey absolutely and aim single mindedly at our ideal self which is Jesus.
