It doesn't surprise me I live in a city in California years ago I was always in tier 5 having 5 kids 600 or more a month electric bill I bought 32 solar panels to eliminate Edison only problem where I live they won't let me have a battery back up system cause they use my power to sale to the naibors and then send me back my excess power so there taking my power to sale to the naibors with this smart meter what do u call that stealing in my opinion also that Smart meter constantly communicating with other smart meters creates 10 to 15 dollars in energy a month on it's own that I have to pay for I bought 32 panels I should have the right to have a battery back up and go of grid. There is a video of a guy rebuilding his whole house only one wall left wa the wall holding the smart meter nothing whole house is gone he was getting a 15 dollars a month electric bill just from the smart meter communication to other smart meters it's on KZread u can look up that video it's all BS my power should be mine or I should be able to sale my extra output at my decided cost excellent video keep up the excellent work

I have worked in the industry all my life from the plant to the outlet and every transformer and voltage in between having said that there's a lot going on here but the grid is not set up to where one place can only have so much they can bleed it dry until somebody turns the switch that turns on some more switches or off as far as Hoover dams capacity at the moment I do not see much left at all because there's not enough head right now to be powering one, in my opinion . they say there's more than one running but I don't see that in the output side, I see one valve open on the downside and that's it . the other day when it caught on fire where the transformers set and that is not where the turbines are anyway I saw it, then or you can see the outflow of water under that particular transformer.

Liz..... If Ca is having such power issues they should allow the shuttered power plants, that the state, in all its infinate wisdom, aren't running because of environmental issues", should be restarted and run as needed to help out. But rather than doing something that makes sense, they are going to make other states make up the difference, and make the customers/people pay for it! Surely the water situation in the lakes is/will continue to make matters worse. Which brings me to another subject. It is well known that Los Angeles allows as much as 80% of its water allowance is allowed to run out to sea. And as for lakes Powell and Mead. Do in large part of the ever increasing demand of the lower basin states, I wonder that even at its best, can the upper Colorado basin provide enough water to keep the lakes levels high enough to maintain consistent power generation. And yes, the drought is a big contributor to the problems. And of course, some of this really is IMHO. Liz, your updates are wonderful. Keep em coming!

Everyone else around me in this area are part of a bigger conglomerate of power suppliers or get it from hydro Quebec in Canada but not me! I like getting it from a small "island" power supplier surrounded in a sea of bigger suppliers. My rates are VERY afforable even in the summer! I consider myself blessed despite the power issues many people are facing especially out in California. I wouldn't move there if someone paid me to! @@SweetOsoka From the Missisquoi river. The same power source used since the early 1800s which the settlers used to turn water wheels at first. It’s a naturally fed river that starts or has it sources from natural springs. And there’s a huge group of water falls right there which is where they decided to set up shop back 200 years ago or so. Used to have a water mill and lumber mill there but that’s long gone. The power station is running strong. And no one is up river drawing on it. The water still flows freely down river and in the spring we get a lot of flooding from the run off from all the ice jams and melting snow from the mountains and Jay Peak ski area.

We were sent a letter by our power company asking us to reduce our power consumption to help California thru their power shortage during the hot months. We're in Nevada. And yet CA is still planning on closing their biggest source of power, Diablo Nuclear power station. This is what happens when they close power plants and build windmills. Windmills produce power less than 30% of the time. So they are 70% worthless.

  • @orthopraxis235

Back maybe 15 years ago, when i first started making trips to Laughlin and Bullhead city monthly, there was a huge power plant, Edison, right in Laughlin. Huge smokestack or whatever, huge plant. Seemed to be a good thing, coal fired or gas or whatever. Didn't seem to bother the air, probably made much needed power for the area, or wherever they could sell it to or trade it to. Then, either right then or within a few years, they blew it up. The water outflow structure still exists along the River, near Harrah's beach, but the plant is no more. One possible (insert conspiracy theorist label here) scenario is that there has been a push to eliminate ALL inexpensive and significant power production facilities in the southwest. Example are San Onofre nuclear power plant in southern california, the Edison plant in Laughlin. Now, the news and authorities put us in a position of rolling blackouts, rate hikes. They want us to buy into solar and wind (solar destroys the ecosystems where they put it, resulting in desertification as that soil used to be held down by plants and desert animals) which cannot produce even a fraction of what Edison and San Onofre produced at it's peak, let alone 24/7, and they can only produce it when the conditions are "just right" (sunnny and windy.) Fast forward to Joe Senile Biden stealing the election, and he has shut down a major oil pipeline in the central part of the US. (most people don't know that MOST of the power made in the Us comes from coal and fossil fuel driven plants). In addition, they are mandating that everything, even cars and truck, run directly on electricity. You can say whatever you like about President Trump, and this isn't a political expose, but under his administration the United States became oil ( and thus energy) INDEPENDENT. That is a numerical fact. I deal directly in energy derivatives, currency and other financials so we accumulate this data and that I can say is true. A few years later, we are the beggars for energy and power, and the price increases you see are a result of that fact. Price increase is a results of supply decreasing relative to demand. In the past few years, decades, the supply has been cut, except for in the Trump Admin, and the demand has likely increased. My conclusion: all the problems "they" say we have with electrical power availability were not just foreseen decades ago, but were actually planned. Any 6th grader can do the math: adding up the electricity needed and forecasted needed and subtracting the available electrical power and forecasted electrical power The why is up for speculation, but the darkest view seems to be control of the population , even dead, because, people don't live well and prosper in this current advanced society without electricity. If power is shut off in the summer or fall, people will suffer and some will die. Same with water. I don't like this conclusion, it darkens my day. I thought I had it made once I learned to make enough money to travel to and from where I love to live in Southern California, drive a few hours to the Colorado and stay in Lake Havasu, Laughlin, to Las vegas, back to Newport Beach back to the coachella valley. What a great life. There is something truly special about the land area in Mojave county that is different from other places. Now I have to see that this is likely the plan of some idiots who have no joy in their life, they have some spiritual or mental affliction, to INTENTIONALLY make us go backwards in time, to a time when there was no water around, no electricity, and to essentially lie about it and say its because we are "harming the planet." I think we need to shift our focus from these manufactured problems, to the folks who are lying by manufacturing them. We can build a structure as AWESOME as the physical hoover dam (you can just feel the incredibleness when you walk on it) but we cannot stop destroying power plants and creating lack? I find this disturbing, first that is it happening, and second that most people are so caught up in the news of it, like me. We need to focus on removing the individuals who are acting to make this happen.

But California does purchase power from Arizona's Palo Verde nuclear plant and Washington's hydro-electric generation or other suppliers of energy outside the state with excess capacity.... About 20 years ago in August there was an earthquake in the LA area which knock offline some of their generating units. So California was begging for power from other states like Nevada. When this the price of power on the open market can jump from $20 Mwh up to $100 Mwh. Si if you have spare power to sell you can make millions. Well in the Las Vegas area at the same time thunderstorm moved in. This resulted in the demand for power in the Las Vegas service area to drop. Rain and cloud cover with dropping temps mean the power demand drops a lot. This means Nevada power had a lot of excess generating capacity over what their demand was. So Nevada power was able to sell many many Mwh's of excess power to California at top dollar and make millions of dollars. But this was enough for greedy Nevada Power. They called all of the casinos that had emergency gas turbine generators and told them that there was a power emergency and they were short on power. They asked or told the casinos to turn on their those emergency gas turbine generators. In reality Nevada power plenty of excess power to sell at that time. They sold that excess power to California plus the many Mwh's of power that normally would of gone to the casinos. Nevada power make a killing doing this and lied to the casinos. Just to show you that Nevada power will not hesitate to lie to you and cheat you. By the way the top executives at Nevada Power are the sleaziest bunch you have ever seen. One sleazy CEO at NVP was married to a lawyer. He was a douchbag and his executives hated him. His girlfriend came to visit him at office. His executives called his wife and told her. She went to the Pearson building and walked into his office catching him banging his girlfriend on his desk. She divorced him and took him to the cleaners.

there is a lot of solar in Southern California the only issue is the utility companies buy excess power from homeowners at a reduced rate compared to what they sell it or sell power back for. They are also always trying to get out of paying for the power or adding fees to solar producers. The CPUC oversees the regulation of utility companies but like anything big business has big money to put towards keeping profits high and influencing regulators and politicians.

Hello Liz. I've been a lawyer for 44 years, now retired and living in Henderson. I saw this video and am intrigued. I still have access to all Federal court filings, and suspect the case you're talking about in the video, in terms of seeing court-filed documents. In my experience both publicly owned and privately owned water utilities don't work in the public interest, so why should electrical power providers be any different???? They all have hidden agenda, even the public or user owned ones. I will shoot you an email so you can describe the "tells" on the story/document you found about the "power stealing", and I will see if I can find the case. Then I will send you the key PDFs of the court files, and you can do a second story on the power-grab. If the case hasn't settled or gone to trial, it sure would be fun and interesting for a group of ordinary citizens to formally intervene, so that no shifty settlements could be secretly made by the power players.

This whole mindset California has is incredibly dangerous. Just because it works in a California city to occasionally escape doesn't mean it's going to translate well across the country. If anything it's just going to make living in some of the colder areas during the winter almost impossible. Do people really think Alaskans are just going to go electric?? How are Alaskans supposed to get parts or replacement vehicles? What about during power outages, storms, wildfires, and other emergencies - how are people supposed to "fill up" a battery quickly? Even a 15 minute charge time at a station is too long during an emergency. How are you supposed to help cars that run out of energy on the side of the road? Can't fill up a gas can at a pump and bring it to them. There's so many issues with this extreme push away from fossil fuels. California can't even keep up with it's own energy demands as it is but it wants to go even further? Madness. Literal insanity. And their grand solution is to keep fossil fuel plants around just for the times when they have peak energy demand. Meaning they're going to have to have the taxpayers pay to keep these old facilities maintained, even when not in operation during peak hours, because no business is going to see that as profitable.

At least 4, probably six, will be running in Canada within 10 years and after that they'll be everywhere providing power to smaller towns and cities. They are very similar to reactors running aircraft carriers, subs etc. Factory build, assembly line style, they will be cheap enough.

Maybe you can get some ecoflow or bluetti portable power stations with available solar panel packs. these can power your fridges and freezers and they have a cooling system 'wave' unit that is efficient for airconditioning. You would need to read 50 or 60 Ph.D. thesis to get the answers. but the short answer is as, on the news, texas, and California have the generating stations to fill the backlog but let texas citizens die of cold because they didn't agree with some executive order to cut pollution to exact levels. on purpose. so democrats have done it in the past and so will do it in the future. That is the good news. Hoover dam, for example, has 17 turbines, 5 of which are actually working only because of upgrades, which are difficult, since the cores weigh 500 tons. The dam fire was one of those 5 so now there are 4. no one is saying that. the deserts are filling with solar panels to provide power without anyone knowing about it.
