Is BANGKOK, Thailand expensive? Let's find out

Hi everyone! This is episode two of my Thailand series. In this video, I explore some of the shopping malls in the Siam area of Bangkok and see how much things cost in the city in 2024. In particular, I visit Siam Paragon and the MBK Center but also stumble across some other markets and street stalls.
It is always good to get an idea of the cost of living in a particular city, but it is also great to just browse and take in the atmosphere of the place. And Bangkok is a very vibrant and exciting city. The malls I visit are very big, with thousands of stalls selling various items including clothes, luxury items, food, electronics, accessories and local arts and crafts. The Siam area is one of the busiest in Bangkok and does not disappoint for activities and general browsing!
I hope you find this video informative. Unfortunately I suffered a bit of a sore throat in this video, so hopefully you can hear me loud and clear! If you haven't done it yet, please LIKE this video, SUBSCRIBE to the channel and leave a COMMENT in the comments section - this really helps me out in promoting the channel and my videos to a wider audience!

I like the fast paced style of editing in this one, Willie. So much to see there, the size of those malls is staggering, I am surprised you found your way back out! I think the second one was my favourite, perhaps a bit more affordable. I didn't imagine Thailand would be colourful for some reason🤷🏼‍♀️. As for the no underwear rule, that's a new one😂

Cheers Sheila! I am indeed trying different styles of editing, to see what works better - so thanks for noticing! Glad you enjoyed it. I didn't think Bangkok would have such incredible malls, as I've always associated it as a backpacker city and only really saw street markets on my previous visit. Thailand is exceptionally colourful and like to show off their vibrancy. Can you imagine being arrested for going commando! haha

What amazes me is that the British High Street is slowly dying, supposedly because we're all doing our shopping online these days, yet the shopping scene in Bangkok is absolutely thriving! 🤔😆 Another great video, Willie! Did you make it to Icon Siam? I enjoyed the food court in the basement, a fascinating place. What I found helpful was that unlike the street food places actually on the street, a lot of the signage was in English. Even though a lot of the food on the streets looked inviting, I found it helpful to know what I might actually be eating...just in case! 😁

That's a very good point regarding the Bangkok shopping scene versus the UK one, Andy! To be fair though, there will always be an Oxford and Regent Street that attract visitors, if only for window shopping :) Cheers for the feedback. I didn't make it to Icon Siam - what was that like? The food court in Siam Paragon was so varied I almost didn't know what to go for, which is why I went for a snack in the MBK instead. Trust me, it took me some time to muster up the courage to try the street food!

@willieexplore Regent Street, yes...if you can afford to shop there! But sadly Oxford Street is a shadow of its former self, what with so many iconic department stores now sadly closed. Icon Siam is a beautiful building, but is also high end. Although the market in the basement does have a number of souvenir type places too, where I bought a few things. I couldn't afford to shop upstairs. 😁 I liked its location right on the river, too. And its nightly light and fountain shows in the area between the mall and the river. Asiatique, further up the river, was also a nice shopping and dining experience. So much retail choice! 😆

@@willieexplore Well ... I do have a "little" list of places I'd like to see, and you're helping me "check them off" (don't have to actually GO there, just SEE there!!). Of places I have been, one of the most interesting and unique was Cholula, Puebla, Mexico ... home of the world's largest (by volume) pyramid (yep, it isn't in Egypt!). They also claim to have a church for every day of the week. Not true ... actually they only have 157 if all are counted. They do like their fireworks/firecrackers ... pretty much set off every day, all day. Near-by Puebla Ciudad is where cinco de mayo originated (celebrating a successful battle there between Mexico and France) ... often celebrated in the US (excuse to drink beer?) but not so much in Mexico. If that's not enough, there is an active volcano nearby, too. Whatcha think?

Good to visit if you are keen on malls and traffic. Living in Bangkok is just too much traffic and air pollution. You can have the benefits of Bangkok(good Thai food and shopping spots/markets) without the traffic, pollution and chaos by being in Korat, Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, or one of the beautiful islands on the coast.

Hello there I recently came across your youtube channel and was impressed by the quality of your content. However, after conducting a comprehensive analysis, I noticed there is room for improvement for your youtube channel for getting more visitors and subscribers. Not doing video optimization and keyword research is not improving your video. The problems I got your channel: 1. Your video title, meta description needs to be improved. 2. Your Thumbnail needs to be more eye-catching. 3. You need to use more relevant ranked tags and low competitive keywords. 4. Also there are many more issues in your video optimization checklist due to which KZread algorithm is not delivering your video to your targeted audience. If you solve these problems, hopefully your channel will grow day by day. Thanks & Regards Ayon Ahmed

Thanks for getting in touch Ayon. Those are some very fair and helpful points you raise there. Content creation is a very tough gig, especially if you have a full time job! I do everything myself including research, production, editing and marketing. So I'm trying my best. I already have some online tools that help me with keyword research, tags and thumbnails. The important thing for me is to keep enjoying what I do - this is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as my channel brings me joy and helps others / show parts of the world to others - even if only a handful - I will continue to produce content :)
