BANGKOK away from the tourists! Including supermarket กรุงเทพฯ

Hi everyone! This is episode three of my Thailand adventure. In this vlog, I explore a part of Bangkok away from the main tourist areas, to get an idea of how the locals go about their daily lives and to explore some relatively unexplored parts of this iconic city.
The vlog starts with me visiting a local market near the Victory Monument just off Ratchawithi Road, a major thoroughfare in Bangkok. I finally muster up the guts to try some Thai street food, and end up ordering a local Thai curry. I also have a brief conversation with a local man from Bangkok. The Thai people are so friendly and hospitable!
After visiting the market and my first taste of Thai street food, I cross a bridge over the road to another market where I have a quick look around. I also give some further information about public transport options in the city, including the BTS Skytrain and the MRT Underground. I talk about tickets options and briefly mention details about the Rabbit Card.
I then stumble across a street stall that sells Thai coffee and tea. I order a Thai coffee and give my opinion on the beverage I received. It was only during my editing that I realised I may have been served a Thai tea, but please let me know in the comments if this was the case! Thai beverage in hand, I explore more of the area around the Victory Monument, noticing chaotic traffic and some buildings that could do with a bit of TLC.
The supermarket is our next stop where we get an idea of what produce and items are sold, as well as the prices. I always find it fascinating to see what gets sold in different parts of the world and for how much - not just the local items, but the well-known global items too!
Next I walk more in the area, making more observations about life in Bangkok. I notice a beautiful green space named Santiphap Park and walk through it. Afterwards I explore more of the streets and notice more street markets, architecture and other interesting features. The vlog ends with me talking about Bangkok as a city that will educate you, before I end the vlog walking back to the Skytrain.
I still had a sore throat in this video, so apologies if you could not hear me clearly all the time! The occasional ailment is part of travelling...
I hope this video gives you an idea of life in Bangkok away from the touristy areas or off the beaten track! You are a trooper, Willie, only feeling 80% and trying street food! It looked very good and a bargain price too. The park was beautiful and immaculately kept😊. I think they do try and police littering here in the U.K but it is a shambles as usual. Thank goodness you kept your top and your underwear on or you would never be seen again!

Haha Sheila, I wouldn't dare remove any clothing in the city :) I was really nervous about the street food but think I got a really good deal and a hearty meal. Great chat with the local man too post lunch. The serenity of the park was fantastic, especially considering the chaos and sounds of the traffic just minutes earlier! The Thai people definitely take good care of their capital city and keep it clean.

It could be Egg in the coffee, they do put egg in the Thai coffee , unless I’m mistaken, but I don’t know if this is how it looks when they do it! Amazing video again, very interesting part of Bangkok , Thailand is definitely on my list!

The egg in the coffee rings a bell, Bip! Pretty sure this was a tea but I thought it was a coffee haha. Amazing how the mind can play tricks on you. I still thoroughly enjoyed it. But then again, would I have enjoyed it as much if I knew it was a tea? Not too sure! Always great to explore parts off the beaten track, even in popular cities such as Bangkok. Cheers for watching!

Loving the purple shades, Willie! 😎 Bangkok really is an attack on all the senses, isn't it. There was so much I wanted to see, try and experience, but it's hard to know where to start! I barely scratched the surface when it comes to food, but it was also fun to look. Any plans to go to Chinatown? That's where I stayed, it was fascinating! I loved exploring the alleyways and canals, and seeing the locals just going about their daily lives. Enjoy!

Thanks Andy! Bangkok has so many treasures and it is near impossible to see all of those in a single trip. As you say, one barely scratches the surface. I didn't make it to Chinatown on this particular trip (and I just missed the Chinese New Year). I actually found that you probably need a week in Bangkok just to orientate yourself. I thought I'd be more familiar with the city after my 2011 visit, but so much changed since then with new transport systems that were introduced etc. Would love to go back one day but the bucket list is so long already :) Appreciate all your support and engagement mate!

@willieexplore You're absolutely right. It takes time to get to know and appreciate Bangkok, and it isn't a place that takes kindly to being rushed! I pretty much had to write off a couple of days due to jetlag, exhaustion, and acclimatising to the heat and humidity, too. From the moment I closed my front door, to the moment I opened the door of my Bangkok hotel room, 24 hours had passed, almost to the minute! Mustering up the energy to do anything very much the next day was tough, and a great shame, too. At one point, I even fell asleep on a bench behind Wat Arun. 😆 I'll just have to plan a return visit! Looking forward to the next instalment. All the best, mate.

You are always welcome, Simon! I always try to be as informative as I can, whilst showing the wider area. Having more internet availability is something I realised I will definitely need, especially on more extensive trips and to more rural areas. However, I'm pretty old school when it comes to travelling and there is a part of me that likes the challenge of communicating; in many ways it feels more authentic. But on the other hand, I also get satisfaction from communicating with someone in their own language. In a way, you cannot lose when travelling, it will be a rewarding experience regardless!
