    When used R34 GTRs were around 50-60k it was a obtainable dream car for me. I had every intention of throwing money at one in 2024. However after money printer started going brrrrr like crazy in 2020 and 2021 that dream is more or less dead, especially when you consider they'll cost 140k+ for a high miles example by then. It's not even remotely worth it to me at that price. I'd love to see what you think between the MK4 vs MK5 Supra too.

    All the dash readouts in the MFD of the R34 were designed, from layout to font, by Polyphony Digital, the creators of Gran Turismo. I see your point, but did you know there are more R32 GTR's made than all the R33 GTR and all R34 GTR's combined? The r34 does seem to be a bit overhyped though. Imo the R33 GTR gives the best bang for the buck, ive driven all 3 generations and owned the R33 GTR V-spec for 10.5 years. It is better driving than the r32, got almost all the tech of the r34 chassis, while also providing the most interiour space. And if you desperatly want a 6th gear or mfd, you could retrofit both. And all that for 1/3rd of the price

  • @gav240z

    @gav240z

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@gtrulez I am aware of production numbers. I have been looking to sell 1 of my 240z's to buy an R32 or R33 GTR. But I'm still not sure I really want to do that. For me the R32 GTR has slightly more appeal because I remember it racing at Bathurst in the early 90s. I agree the 33 is more refined, but I find the styling a little bland (probably because you see so many R33 GTSTs about). However I do like the series 3 R33 GTRs and the 400R is an amazing machine. But I also have a Nissan Stagea 260rs (99 model) which as you probably know has an Rb26 and is the perfect family hauler. So I feel I've kind of scratched the itch of a GTR. Plus they only made 1,700 of those! I've always kind of preferred the Rx7s and I'm in the process of getting my FD back on the road now. I feel the GTR is a cool JDM icon but it's more muscle / GT car than pure sports car. Where as the FD is as pure a sports car experience as you can get.

    I totally get why my dad loves the C3 Corvettess now. Where I'm from they're rare(ish). When he was growing up they were cool looking, decent performing sports cars. They hardly great performers now, but they're super fun to drive. My 2011 (mildly modified) hot hatch is probably faster than a stock R34 GTR. But I still want one soooooo badly. They're just cool.

    It's really not big at all, the R34 looks bigger in person, honestly. It had a slightly longer wheel base than the R32 and R34, which made it a little worse on tight circuits but also more stable on fast stretches of road/track. The biggest drawback is the 5 speed vs. the 6 speed manual.

    Yeah but you need to understand the concept of supply and demand here. That is the biggest reason why these cars go up in price. Of course Paul and the F&F franchise play a big roll in it but it has a lot to do with just supply and demand.

I know 9000 cars left is not much, but there are so many better cars in America you could buy for that kind of money (i don't live there). But i guess people always want what they can't have, and get mindblowingly irrationnal. The sad part is many people who will actually buy one, will only do so to brag at car meets or on instagram

    In my humble opinion, the R34 is worthless in terms of performance when you compare it to the R35. But the nostalgia feeling the R34 has is indeed priceless. The price of an R34 will go up in value yes but in terms of costs, the R35 is a much better buy in terms of super cars. You got nearly double the horsepower and torque in the R35 at half the price of an R34.

    The biggest problem with the R34 is the over-hype it gets nowadays. It was a great car for being more or less a Japanese BMW M3: fast but practical and unique and interesting but not a full blown exotic and all sold for a reasonable price. The reasonable price aspect has been blown out of the water, now you can get a Porsche or Ferrari from that era for less money, so what the hell is everyone doing paying so much for R34s? I just said fuck it and got a motorcycle, I'll destroy almost any car and it only cost me $5700 for a pristine used one. It's actually hilarious, so far I've had Porsches, Teslas, and even a Lambo once line up next to me at a red light and "suddenly need to turn right" because they know they'd get embarrassed. You don't feel bad riding motorcyles hard, either, because they're way more serviceable than cars and if you somehow blow an engine a nice used one off of eBay is like $2k max because there are so many out there from totaled bikes.

    As a detailer and having clients and friends who were financially stable to buy and modify all sorts from around the globe.... my personal opinion is that off.. if you can afford it and you want it the buy it. Having sat in the passanger seat of a few i can say that there is a great thrill but it does wear off rather quickly when you consider most of the people who own them will never push the limits of the gtr never mind pushing it on a b road. The best fun ive ever had was in an old supercharged 1380cc mini. The only other thing that could compete for overall noise/feel and overall experience was an austin ruby converted to a single seat running a a small turbo t25 duratec built to accelerate as hard and as fast as you dare to push it. With the price of these cars now id be looking to retromod something older and make it unique and built with purpouse.

I’d rather have something that does not need to be built to be competitive and to have fun in.
